[Chandigarh,Punjab]Ailing Badal meets Families of War Martyrs And Assures Allotment Of Land
Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today said the demand of war widows for allotment of land would be met.
Senior Badal, who is unwell And On Complete Bed Rest ,met a delegation of war widows and requested them to give some more time to complete the formalities.
The families of martyrs have been demanding that they be allotted agriculture land as per the policy of the state government or, if an appropriate chunk of land was not available, the concerned families might be given financial compensation in lieu thereof.
During his meeting with the delegation, the Chief Minister spoke over telephone to the state Financial Commissioner (Revenue) KBS Sidhu, who is in Delhi for an official meeting, and asked him to give a thorough, patient and sympathetic audience to the members of the martyrs’ families to find an appropriate solution to the issue,
Accordingly, Sidhu fixed a meeting with the delegation on September 30.

President Of India Pranab Mukherjee today paid obeisance at the Kedarnath shrine in Uttarakhand on the second day of his three-day visit to the hill state.
The President spent about an hour and took stock of the reconstruction work carried out at Kedarnath which bore the brunt of the June 2013 calamity.
It was the President’s first visit to the centuries-old shrine after assuming office.
Two of his proposed visits to the temple in the past were cancelled due to bad weather conditions.
The Governor, the Chief Minister and Mandir Samiti officials showed the President around to give him an idea of the reconstruction work carried out at the temple and nearby areas.

Karnataka government today announced the appointment of senior IAS officer Subhash Chandra Khuntia as the state’s Chief Secretary,
Khuntia will succeed Arvind Jadhav, who will be retiring from service on superannuation,
A 1981-batch officer, Khuntia has been appointed on repatriation from central deputation.
Jadhav, a 1978-batch IAS officer, was appointed as Chief Secretary on December 31, 2015.
He was to retire on June 30, but was given an extension of three months

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal was today advised complete bed rest by doctors at the PGIMER and has cancelled all his engagements.
The 88-year-old has not been keeping well.
The Essence of Punjab ,underwent a check-up at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research this morning.
On the advice of doctors, he has cancelled all his engagements till October 1,
Doctors attending on Badal has advised him complete bed rest for the next few days.

The Supreme Court today pulled up the BCCI, asking it to “fall in line” after the Justice R M Lodha panel sought removal of the top brass of BCCI, including its President Anurag Thakur and Secretary Ajay Shirke, for non-compliance of the apex court directions.
The Lodha panel, in its status report filed before the apex court, had sought the replacement of top brass of the cricket body with cricket administrators.
It said that the BCCI and its office bearers are not complying with directions and repeatedly issuing statements to undermine the authority of the court and the members of the Lodha panel, which had recommended structural reforms in BCCI.
The counsel appearing for the panel said BCCI is not replying to emails and other communications sent to them and repeatedly defying the orders of the court.
The bench headed by Chief Justice T S Thakur took note of the submissions and said these are serious allegations and BCCI has to follow the directions of the court.
“If the BCCI thinks that they are law unto themselves, then they are wrong. They have to comply with the directions of the court,” the bench also comprising Justice A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud said.
“You (BCCI) are behaving like Lords. Fall in line otherwise we will make you fall in line,” the bench said, adding that, “BCCI is bringing the system to disrepute by not following the directions”.
The bench posted the matter for hearing on October 6.

AAP’s prominent Goa leader Dr Oscar Rebello, who was speculated to be the party’s chief ministerial face, has ruled out contesting the state Assembly elections due next year.
Rebello, a practising physician, came into limelight in 2006-07 when he, as convener of Goa Bachao Abhiyaan, had opposed the Regional plan (land use plan) through a mass agitation, following which the then Town and Country Planning Minister Atanasio Monserratte had resigned from his post.
“I would like to put the record straight that due to my profession and family commitments, I will definitely not contest the election,” Rebello told reporters yesterday, laying to rest speculation about him being the AAP’s chief ministerial candidate.
The Goa Assembly polls are due before March 2017.
