[New Delhi] Rahul Respect Mandate And Encourage Congressmen To Win Back Trust
Breaking his silence on the party’s defeat in three northeast states, Congress president Rahul Gandhi today said he respected the mandate of people in the region and was committed to winning back their trust.
Results for assembly elections in Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland were declared on Saturday.
The Congress lost Meghalaya and failed to score a single seat in Tripura and Nagaland.
The party won 21 seats in Meghalaya, where it was in power, and could not garner the support of regional outfits to cobble together a coalition government.
Top party leaders Ahmed Patel and Kamal Nath rushed to Shillong to talk to regional parties but to no avail.
Gandhi had announced on Thursday that he would visit his 93-year-old grandmother in Italy over the Holi weekend.
Top party leaders had refrained from making any comment on the results

Another IndiGo Airbus A320 Neo aircraft with Pratt& Whitney engine was grounded today at the Pune airport prior to its departure for New Delhi due to the oil chip detection in one of its engines,
Flight was delayed by more than four hours
This came close on the heels of another incident involving its aircraft last week, in which passengers had a close shave after one of the engines of a A320 Neo plane failed midair.
The glitch-hit IndiGo plane was scheduled to fly to Delhi from Pune.
As the aircraft was not airworthy due to the engine failure, the airline arranged another plane later, an A320, to fly the passengers to their destination, the source added.

Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh launched the social media of “Namaste Shalom”, a magazine devoted to India-Israel relations, The festive occasion of Holi coincided with the Jewish festival of Purim. The magazine is edited by former MP Tarun Vijay. Israeli Ambassador to India, Daniel Carmon and other dignitaries were also present.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Jitendra Singh said that Israel and India, shared rich cultural and economic relations. They had faced similar hardships as well as successes in the past which obviated the need for making any extra effort for bonding the two peoples, He announced that a food processing centre with collaboration of Israeli expertise will be inaugurated in Aizwal, Mizoram next week on 7th March. This will be the first such centre in the North East region of India that is being established with Israeli collaboration. Set up at a cost of Rs 8-10 crore, this centre is exclusively for processing of citrus fruits.

Senior Catholic priest and rector of a famous Christian pilgrim centre in Malayattoor Fr Xavier Thelakkat, was today stabbed to death
The incident occurred this afternoon when the 52-year-old priest was climbing the Kurisumudy in Malayattoor, a holy place believed to have visited by St Thomas, one of the Apostles of Jesus Christ.
The priest was attacked with a sharp edged weapon by former Church sacristan Johnny, who was removed from the post of sacristan three months ago, police said.
Priest died as he was taken to a private hospital in nearby Angamaly,
Johnny went absconding soon after the incident.According to Syro-Malabar Christians, St Thomas had visited Kurisumudy after landing at Kodungalloor in AD 52.
