(Chandigarh) Deptt of Info & Public Relations Gets Two New Officers

Preet Kanwal Singh and Gurmeet Singh Khaira today joined the Department of Information and Public Relations, Punjab as Joint Director and Deputy Director, respectively.

Mr. Preet Kanwal Singh has long working experience in TV and newspaper field. In 2011, he joined the department as Assistant Public Relations Officer and elevated as Information and Public Relations Officer in the year 2015. During this period, he served as District Public Relations Officer at Ropar and SAS Nagar besides working in the Press Section at the headquarter.

Likewise, newly-appointed Deputy Director Mr. Gurmeet Singh Khaira has long experience in journalism. He worked with various TV channels before joining the government sector. Appointed as Information and Public Relations Officer in the year 2011, Mr. Khaira had served as District Public Relation Officer at Barnala and Ropar, including the Press Section and Advertisement Branch of the department.

CJI Dr Chandrachud Selected for “Award for Global Leadership

(New Delhi) Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud has been selected for the “Award for Global Leadership” by the Harvard Law School Center in recognition of his lifetime service to the legal profession in the country and around the world.

The award will be presented to him at an online event on January 11.

Chandrachud obtained an LLM degree and a Doctorate in Juridical Sciences (SJD) from the Harvard Law School in the United States.

The Kapil Sharma’s life story is set to be told on the big screen with an upcoming biographical drama movie
Titled “Funkaar”, the film will be helmed by Fukrey fame director Mrighdeep Singh Lamba. Mahaveer Jain will produce the movie under the banner Lyca Productions.
“Looking forward to bringing to the audience the story of India’s most beloved Funkaar. Kapil Sharma,” Lamba said in a statement.
Jain, who earlier backed Rajinikanth’s “2.0” as well as upcoming films like Akshay Kumar-starrer “Ram Setu”, said the team is excited to present Sharma’s life story to the world.
“Billions of people get their daily dose of dopamine, courtesy Kapil Sharma. We all need love, life and laughter. We are proud to present comedy super star Kapil Sharma’s untold story on the big screen, in a big way,” he said.
Sharma, who hails from Amritsar, rose to fame after winning the comedy reality television show The Great Indian Laughter Challenge in 2007.
The 40-year-old comedian continued performing acts for reality shows till he launched his own show “Comedy Nights with Kapil”, under his banner K9 Productions in 2013, that propelled him to further popularity.
Sharma currently hosts “The Kapil Sharma Show . He also forayed into film acting with Abbas Mustan-directed comedy “Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon” in 2015 and later starred in historical-drama “Firangi”.
He is awaiting the release of his debut comedy special “Kapil Sharma: I’m Not Done Yet”, which will premiere on Netflix on January 28.

Senior IPS officer Viresh Kumar Bhawra has been appointed the director general of police of Punjab.
Charanjit Singh Channi-led government selected this 1987 batch IPS officer out of a panel of three officers shortlisted by the Union Public Service Commission.
The other two officers in the panel were senior IPS officers Dinkar Gupta and Prabodh Kumar.
Bhawra’s term shall be for a minimum period of two years from the date of assumption of office

Punjab government on Saturday transferred seven IPS officers including Senior Superintendent of Police, Ferozepur.
IPS officer Harmandeep Singh Hans, SSP Ferozepur, has been posted as Commandant 3rd IRB, Ludhiana.
Narinder Bhargav will be the new SSP Ferozepur.
Hans was Ferozepur SSP during the Wednesday security lapse in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s convoy was stranded on a flyover.
The convoy on its way to Hussainiwala was stuck due to a blockade by protesters, forcing Modi to return from the poll-bound state without attending any event or a rally.
Hans along with several senior police and civil officials had appeared on Friday in Ferozepur before a three-member panel formed by the Union Home Ministry to inquire into the “serious lapses” in Modi’s security.
Bharatiya Kisan Union (Krantikari) chief Surjeet Singh Phul, whose union had blocked the road in Ferozepur, said it was the SSP Ferozepur who had informed them Narendra Modi was coming by road but we thought it was a bluff to get the road vacated.
Meanwhile, other police officers who have been transferred are Naunihal Singh who has been appointed as Commissioner of Police, Jalandhar.
AK Mittal has been posted as Inspector General of Police, Roopnagar, while Sukhchain Singh has been posted as Amritsar Commissioner.
Nanak Singh has been appointed as SSP Gurdaspur and Alka Meena will be SSP Barnala.
Two PPS officers Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh and Kuljit Singh have been given new additional and new posting orders.

Vini Mahajan, IAS (Punjab: 1987) assumed the charge as Secretary in the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, here today. Ms. Mahajan is an MBA from Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta, where she was placed on the Roll of Honour. She did B.A. (Honours) Economics from Lady Shri Ram College (LSR), Delhi University.
Prior to this, she was serving as Punjab Chief Secretary from 26th June 2020.
Ms Mahajan served as Joint Secretary to the Prime Minister of India from 2007-2012, and earlier in 2004-05 as Director in the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance.
She has served in various capacities in the State of Punjab, as M.D. of the Punjab Infrastructure Development Board, as the first Director Disinvestment in the State, as Secretary, Power and as Special Secretary, Expenditure. She has over 8 years’ experience in cutting edge positions at the field level, including as Deputy Commissioner (the first woman to be posted as such in Punjab in 25 years).
Ms Mahajan received numerous academic awards, including the National Talent Search Scholarship. She was a Hubert Humphrey fellow based at American University in Washington DC in 2000 –2001.

Parag Agrawal,  has recently been named as the CEO of microblogging platform Twitter

The India-born executive – who succeeds Jack Dorsey in this role – served as Twitter’s Chief Technology Officer since 2017, and has been responsible for the company’s technical strategy.

He joined the company in 2011 as a software engineer, leading efforts on scaling Twitter Ads systems, as well as reaccelerating audience growth by improving Home timeline relevance.
Agrawal, 37, holds a bachelor’s degree from IIT Bombay and a PhD in computer science from Stanford University.
According to previous filings, Dorsey had earned USD 1.40 in 2019 – flat from the year before – as the co-founder believes in “Twitter’s long-term value creation potential”.

On November 29, Dorsey had announced that he is stepping down from his position, and named Agrawal as his successor. Dorsey will remain on the Board until his term expires in 2022.

Agrawal has joined the growing list of India-born CEOs of tech companies that includes names like Sundar Pichai (Google), Satya Nadella (Microsoft), Arvind Krishna (IBM), Shantanu Narayen (Adobe CEO) and Rangarajan Raghuram (VMware).

The US-based microblogging platform counts India among its major markets with an estimated 1.75 crore users.
