शिक्षा
डाक्टर मन मोहन सिंह को उनकी सादगी के अलावा उनकी उच्च शिक्षा के लिए भी सम्मानित स्थान प्राप्त है| बचपन से ही उनका पढ़ाई की ओर विशेष रुझान था| श्री सिंह ने पंजाब विश्वविद्यालय से प्रथम श्रेणी में बी.ए (आनर्स) की पढ़ाई पूरी की| इसके बाद वर्ष 1954 में यहीं से एम.ए (इकोनॉमिक्स) में भी उन्होंने पहला स्थान प्राप्त किया| पी.एच.डी. की डिग्री प्राप्त करने के लिए वह कैंब्रिज विश्वविद्यालय गए जहां उन्हें उत्कृष्ट प्रदर्शन के लिए राइट्स पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया| ऑक्सफोर्ड यूनिवर्सिटी के नेफिल्ड कॉलेज से मनमोहन सिंह ने डी. फिल की परीक्षा उत्तीर्ण की| मनमोहन सिंह पंजाब विश्वविद्यालय, चंडीगढ़ में व्याख्याता के पद पर नियुक्त होने के बाद जल्द ही प्रोफेसर के पद पर पहुंच गए| मनमोहन सिंह ने दो वर्ष तक दिल्ली स्कूल ऑफ इकोनॉमिक्स में भी अध्यापन कार्य किया| अज इन्हें दुनिया एक कुशल अर्थशास्त्री के रूप में जानती है|
राजनैतिक जीवन-
श्री सिंह को 1985 में राजीव गांधी के शासन काल में भारतीय योजना आयोग का उपाध्यक्ष नियुक्त किया गया। इस पद पर उन्होंने निरन्तर पाँच वर्षों तक कार्य किया, जबकि 1990 में उनको प्रधानमंत्री का आर्थिक सलाहकार बनाया गया| जब पी वी नरसिंहराव प्रधानमंत्री बने, तो उन्होंने मनमोहन सिंह को 1991 में अपने मंत्रिमंडल में सम्मिलित करते हुए वित्त मंत्रालय का स्वतंत्र प्रभार सौंप दिया। वर्ष 1991 से लेकर 1996 तक वह भारत के वित्त मंत्री रहे| अप्रैल 2004 में 72 वर्ष की आयु में वह प्रधानमंत्री नियुक्त किए गए. पुनः दूसरी बार उन्हें वर्ष 2009 में कांग्रेस ने प्रधानमंत्री पद के लिए उन्ही पर भरोसा किया| 2009 के लोकसभा चुनावों में मिली जीत के बाद वे जवाहरलाल नेहरू के बाद भारत के पहले ऐसे प्रधानमंत्री बन गए हैं जिनको पांच वर्षों का कार्यकाल सफलतापूर्वक पूरा करने के बाद लगातार दूसरी बार प्रधानमंत्री बनने का अवसर मिला है| बतौर प्रधानमंत्री उनका दूसरा कार्यकाल 2014 में पूरा हो रहा है|यह सम्मान सबसे शक्तिशाली पी एम् इंदिरा गांधी जी के खाते में भी नहीं है|
