[New Delhi] Swaraj Abhiyan Successfully Pressurizes Kejriwal: U Turn On Liquor Policy
.Swaraj Abhiyan’s campaign against new liquor vends in Delhi had its first major victory today as the Chief Minister was forced to take back its anti people liquor policy.
Delhi government will not be opening any new liquor shop in Delhi for the next one year.
Swaraj Abhiyan has raised few questions On This U Turn
1]Why does the CM want to not open any further alcohol shops only this year? Is it because of the upcoming elections in Delhi and Punjab?
2]Mr. Kejriwal had made similar promises to the voters of Delhi which he never honoured and we saw how at least 72 new liquor shops were opened and 217 licenses for bars were granted since the party coming to power in Delhi.
The question still remains why the Delhi government, which came to power on the promise of Nasha-Mukt Delhi, has shown such enthusiasm and alacrity in encouraging alcoholism in the national capital.
3]The Delhi government has already delayed its excise policy, which should have been released in April’16. The draft of policy was being discussed by the government for four months now. So, what has changed in the last 15 days that the chief minister had to suddenly make these announcements taking a U-turn from its initial draft of the policy?
Swaraj Abhiyan demanded that the draft of new excise policy be made public for discussion and suggestions of Aam Aadmi before the Delhi government finally releases it.
A massive public hearing was organised last week at one such vend at Kotla Mubarakpur in Kasturbanagar assembly constituency.
