[New Delhi]U S Ambassador Verma Met Indian Law Maker Gowda On 3rd Sept.And Discussed Legal Reforms
The US Ambassador to India Richard R. Verma along with other officials of the Embassy called on Union Minister of Law & Justice D.V.Sadananda Gowda
The Minister welcomed the Ambassador and introduced the officials of the ministry who were present.
The Ambassador was keen on knowing the status of ongoing legal reforms with special reference to ease of doing business like setting up of Commercial Courtsand reforms being contemplated in the sphere of Arbitration .
The measure amendments being introduced in the Arbitration Act as approved by the cabinet were also briefed. Similarly, setting up of Commercial Courts in pursuance with the goal of ease of doing business in India was also discussed in detail and India minister assured American Ambassador that Government of India is bringing amendments to bring Indian system at par with the international (UNCITRAL) system.
Issues relating to the enforcement of contracts, and international arbitration awards were also discussed. The provisions for the ways the required mutual cooperation and required changes are being addressed also came up for discussion.
Issues relating to Intellectual Property Rights ( IPR) was agreed to be taken up by ambassador with the Ministry of Commerce through the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
The US Ambassador was keen on Civil Legal Cooperation, training and Exchange of Expertise and the same was welcomed by the Minister
