पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री [अब स्वर्गीय]इंदिरा गांधी को उनकी 95वीं जयंती पर कृतघ्न राष्ट्र ने याद किया राष्ट्रपति प्रणब मुखर्जी और उपराष्ट्रपति हामिद अंसारी आदि ने दिवंगत नेता को भावभीनी श्रद्धांजलि अर्पित की। आज यमुना तट पर इंदिरा गांधी के समाधि शक्तिस्थल पर पुष्पांजलि अर्पित की जा रही है|संयुक्त प्रगतिशील गठबंधन (संप्रग) की अध्यक्ष सोनिया गांधी, केंद्रीय मंत्री सुशील कुमार शिंदे और कमलनाथ आदि शक्तिस्थल गए एवं उन्होंने वहां पुष्पांजलि अर्पित की। इस अवसर पर मुखर्जी, अंसारी और सोनिया ने तिरंगे गुब्बारे आसमान में छोड़े|
इंदिरा गांधी के पुराने रिकार्डेड भाषण के साथ ही देशभक्ति संगीत बजाया गया। प्रथम प्रधानमंत्री पंडित जवाहर लाल नेहरू की बेटी इंदिरा गांधी देश की पहली महिला प्रधानमंत्री थीं। पढ़ाई में एक सामान्य दर्जे की छात्रा रही इंदिरा प्रियदर्शिनी गांधी को विश्व राजनीति में लौह-महि लाके रूप में जाना जाता है |उनका जन्म 19 नवंबर, 1917 को हुआ था देश की पहली महिला प्रधान मंत्री बनी और उन्होंने 16 वर्ष तक इस पद को सुशोभित किया | इंदिरा गांधी हमेशा अपने विरोधियों पर भारी रहीं | चौथे राष्ट्रपति चुनाव में कांग्रेस पार्टी के आधिकारिक उम्मीदवार नीलम संजीव रेड्डी की जगह वीवी गिरि को जिताकर उन्होंने इसे और पुख्ता किया था। इंदिरा गांधी के खाते में ‘दुर्गा’, ‘लौहमहिला’, ‘भारत की साम्राज्ञी’ और न जाने कितने टाईटल दर्ज़ हैं|, यह ऐसी नेता की ओर इशारा करते थे, जो आज्ञा का पालन करवाने और डंडे के जोर पर शासन करने की क्षमता भी रखती थी।
उनके शासनकाल में कई उतार-चढ़ाव आए। वर्ष 1975 में आपातकाल लागू करने के फैसले को लेकर इंदिरा को भारी विरोध-प्रदर्शन और तीखी आलोचनाएं झेलनी पड़ी थीं। इंदिरा गांधी ने खुद ही आपातकाल खत्म कर आम चुनाव करवाया। हालांकि कांग्रेस को वर्ष 1977 के चुनाव में हार का सामना करना पड़ा| वर्ष 1980 में उन्होंने भारी बहुमत से वापसी की। फिर वर्ष 1983 में उन्होंने नई दिल्ली में निर्गुट सम्मेलन और उसी साल नवंबर में राष्ट्रमंडल राष्ट्राध्यक्षों के सम्मेलन का आयोजन किया। इनसे भारत की अंतरराष्ट्रीय छवि सशक्त हुई।
कहा जाता है कि अंतरिक्ष, परमाणु विज्ञान, कंप्यूटर विज्ञान में भारत की आज जैसी स्थिति की कल्पना इंदिरा गांधी के बगैर नहीं की जा सकती थी।
प्रत्येक व्यक्तित्व की अगर सराहना होती है तो उसकी आलोचना भी होती है और इंदिरा गाँधी इसका अपवाद नहीं थी |जहां आज उनकी पूजा करने वाले हैं तो उनकी इमरजेंसी के दंश से पीड़ित भी हैं|।
