A five-ft tall stone Shiva Lingam, believed to be more than 300 years old, has been unearthed by a farmer in Poornankuppam,
As per Local Authorities ,Puthupattan (56) was digging his field with an earthmover when the machine suddenly hit a hard object about four feet beneath the earth. The farmer and other locals dug up the pit and found the Lingam,
Preliminary study indicated that the lingam was more than 300 years old.
However the exact period to which it belonged could be ascertained only after inspection by experts from Archaeological Survey of India on November 7,
Meanwhile people from nearby villages flocked to the spot on hearing about the Lingam. Some of them performed poojas and sprinkled flowers on it, they said

A PIL seeking restoration of an ancient gateway in the old outer periphery of famous Goddess Meenakshi Amman temple has been filed in the Madras High Court bench .
, Bench of Justice S Manikumar and Justice C T Selvam posted the case for further hearing on March 10 after the union government’s advocate submitted that he would seek the view of Archaeological Survey of India officials.As per
Petitioner Adv.K Pandi Arasan, “vitta vasal”, an ancient gateway to the city, was constructed by the Pandiya Kings in the 13th century and is a testimony to the Pandiya architecture.
During the British period in 1857, in order to expand the city, the then Collector demolished three gates that denoted the border of the city and left the one gate on the Eastern side, which later become a tourist land mark.
But over the years, officials had neglected it and shopkeepers and encroachers damaged the ancient gateway converted the space into concrete rooms with AC facility.
He had sent a representation to the officials, including the Union Assitant Superintendent of Archaeology, the Secretary of Tourism and Culture and Department of Archaeology seeking removal of the new structures and restore the vittavasal to its original shape. But there was no response from the officials

Ministry of Culture Denied Outsourcing the Maintenance of Monuments
Minister of State for Culture Dr Mahesh Sharma in a written reply in Rajya Sabha today said that At present there is no such proposal to outsource the operational maintenance with monuments of World Heritage tag under Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). However, ASI has undertaken conservation and development of Humayun’s Tomb, Delhi in collaboration with Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC).

[नई दिल्ली]डौडि़याखेड़ा, संग्रामपुर-जिला उन्नाव (उत्तर प्रदेश) की १२ दिन की खुदाई में १००० टन सोने की चमक आज भी दिखाई नहीं दी|
18.10.2013 से 29.10.2013 डौडि़याखेड़ा, संग्रामपुर-जिला उन्नाव (उत्तर प्रदेश)के राव राम बक्श सिंह के किले में खुदाई की ताजा स्थिति इस प्रकार रही।
18.10.2013 से वाईवीआई के वृत के चतुर्थ भाग के तीसरे हिस्से में खुदाई का काम शुरु हुआ। ईट की दो समानांतर दीवारों (3.00 मीटर x 2.50 मीटर) तक की बीच की दूरी तक खुदाई सीमित रही। यह सतह से 4.80 मीटर की गहराई तक जारी रही और खाई के कंकड़ पत्थर वाले स्तर तक पहुंची। अब इस ट्रैंच का मानचित्रण और फोटोग्राफी की तैयारी प्रगति पर है। भारत के पुरात्व सर्वेक्षण के महानिदेशक ने आज मीडिया को बताया कि दीवार के ढ़ाचे को खत्म करके खुदाई का क्षेत्र बढ़ाना चाहते हैं।
उन्होंने बताया कि सतह संख्या 9 से प्रारम्भिक एतिहासिक काल के नमूने मिले हैं।
[I] इस ट्रैंच से निम्न प्राचीनकालीन वस्तुएं मिलीः१. शीशे की चुड़ियां[२]. लौह नख[३]. कूदने की सामग्री[४]. शेर के आकार के विखरे पत्थर
[५] सुपारी के आकार के मनके
[II ]जले ईंट के आकार[१]. लखौरी-ईंट की दीवार (खाई का दक्षिण पश्चिम कोना)(14 कोर्स)[२]. जली ईंट की दीवार (पूर्व की तरफ का) भाग-1.46 मीटर लंबा (केवल एक कोर्स)-ईंट का आकार 47x24x6.75 सेंटीमीटर
[III] सिगड़ी (०२) संख्यास्थल पर एएसआई के अधिकारियों की सलाह से जीएसआई की टीम ने गंगा नदी से सटे स्थल पर अन्य खोज में परिक्षण के तौर पर खुदाई का सुझाव दिया है। सतह की समुचित साफ-सफाई के बाद एक्सए 2 बिछाया गया है और खुदाई का काम कल शुरु होगा।
उत्तर प्रदेश के पुरातत्व के प्रतिनिधि, उन्नाव जिले के बारा के एसडीएम लाईजनिंग अधिकारी के तौर पर देख रेख कर रहे हैं।
