[Washington,DC]Obama Proposes $10 Tax On Oil for Green Transportation Plan
US President Barack Obama has proposed a USD 10-a-barrel tax on crude oil to fund a new green transportation system, Criticizing,Republicans said it would raise energy prices and hurt poor Americans.
The White House said Obama’s budget to be sent to the Congress next week will lay out a bold new plan for building a 21st Century Clean Transportation System funded by a new fee paid by oil companies.
The President s plan would increase American investments in clean transportation infrastructure by roughly 50 percent while reforming the investments we already make to help reduce carbon pollution, cut oil consumption, and create new jobs.
The White House said travellers choose between walking, biking, driving, flying, and taking the train; and companies choose between trucks, barges, airplanes and rail lines.
The move was immediately opposed by the Republican leadership in the Congress.
“Once again, the president expects hardworking consumers to pay for his out of touch climate agenda.
A USD 10 tax for every barrel of oil produced would raise energy prices hurting poor Americans the most,” said Paul Ryan, the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

President Obama just Gave A Call To Unite Against Gun Culture

[WashingtonDC] President Obama just Gave A Call To Unite Against Gun Culture
Obama Today delivered a statement on today’s shooting in Oregon.
He said “We are the only advanced country in the world that sees these shootings every few months.”
There’s been another mass shooting in America — this time, in a community college in Oregon.
That means there are more American families — moms, dads, children — whose lives have been changed forever. That means there’s another community stunned with grief, and communities across the country forced to relieve their own anguish, and parents across the country who are scared because they know it might have been their families or their children.
Obama said “as I said just a few months ago, and I said a few months before that, and I said each time we see one of these mass shootings, our thoughts and prayers are not enough. It’s not enough. It does not capture the heartache and grief and anger that we should feel. And it does nothing to prevent this carnage from being inflicted someplace else in America — next week, or a couple of months from now. We don’t yet know why this individual did what he did. And it’s fair to say that anybody who does this has a sickness in their minds, regardless of what they think their motivations may be. But we are not the only country on Earth that has people with mental illnesses or want to do harm to other people. We are the only advanced country on Earth that sees these kinds of mass shootings every few months”
President Said “Earlier this year, I answered a question in an interview by saying, “The United States of America is the one advanced nation on Earth in which we do not have sufficient common-sense gun-safety laws — even in the face of repeated mass killings.” And later that day, there was a mass shooting at a movie theater in Lafayette, Louisiana. That day! Somehow this has become routine. The reporting is routine. My response here at this podium ends up being routine. The conversation in the aftermath of it. We’ve become numb to this”.
We talked about this after Columbine and Blacksburg, after Tucson, after Newtown, after Aurora, after Charleston. It cannot be this easy for somebody who wants to inflict harm on other people to get his or her hands on a gun.
And what’s become routine, of course, is the response of those who oppose any kind of common-sense gun legislation. Right now, I can imagine the press releases being cranked out: We need more guns, they’ll argue. Fewer gun safety laws.
Does anybody really believe that? There are scores of responsible gun owners in this country –they know that’s not true. We know because of the polling that says the majority of Americans understand we should be changing these laws — including the majority of responsible, law-abiding gun owners.
President Reitereted
“And each time this happens I’m going to bring this up. Each time this happens I am going to say that we can actually do something about it, but we’re going to have to change our laws. And this is not something I can do by myself. I’ve got to have a Congress and I’ve got to have state legislatures and governors who are willing to work with me on this.
I hope and pray that I don’t have to come out again during my tenure as President to offer my condolences to families in these circumstances. But based on my experience as President, I can’t guarantee that. And that’s terrible to say. And it can change.
May God bless the memories of those who were killed today. May He bring comfort to their families, and courage to the injured as they fight their way back. And may He give us the strength to come together and find the courage to change. We have to come together and take steps to reduce gun violence”

President ObamaPaid Rich Tributes to Black Women Leaders Of 50 Yrs Ago

[Washington,DC]President Obama paid Rich Tribute to Black Women Leaders Of Half Century Ago
US President Barack Obama has paid tribute to black women for their role in helping shape American democracy, calling them “the thinkers and the doers” who made things happen at the height of the civil rights movement half a century ago.
Obama said black women did the behind-the-scenes work of strategizing boycotts and organising marches while others got thecredit. He said they have been part of every great movement in American history, and that every American has benefited as a result.
“Women were the foot soldiers. Women strategized boycotts.
Women organised marches,” Obama said in a keynote address to the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s annual awards dinner. “Even if they weren’t allowed to run the civil rights organisations on paper, behind the scenes they were the thinkers and the doers making things happen each and every day, doing the work that no one else wanted to do.”
He said.”Women made the movement happen,”
But Obama said that while black women and girls have made progress and are opening more of their own businesses and graduating from high school and college at higher rates, they are still overrepresented in low-paying jobs and underrepresented in management.
even invoked his wife, Michelle, as an example of the attitudes about black women that he said persist. The first lady, a lawyer with degrees from two Ivy League universities, has spoken on numerous occasions of being told by her teachers that she was setting her sights too high.
“Those stereotypes and pressures, they still affect our girls,” said Obama, the father of two teenage daughters. “So we all have to be louder than the voices that are telling our girls they’re not good enough, that they’ve got to act a certain way.”
