[Nakodar,Jalandhar,Chd]Capt Announces Rs.162 cr of Develoment Projects for Shahkot,Nakodar
Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Wednesday announced infrastructure project worth Rs. 113 crore for Shahkot area and another Rs 49 crore for Nakodar as part of his government’s development agenda for Jalandhar district.
The Chief Minister made the announcements during his visit to the region for distribution of debt waiver certificates to farmers.
For Shahkot, the government has allocated
Rs. 15 crore for a new Government Degree College at Village Sarangwal, besides
Rs. 30 crore for special repair of 280 Km of Link Roads.
Another Rs. 20 crore has been set aside for development works in 232 villages of Shahkot, Lohian and Mehatpur Blocks,
In addition, a sum of Rs. 11 crore has been assigned for the development of Mandis to provide better facilities to the farmers in the procurements season, said the Chief Minister, also announced Rs. 8 crore for bifurcation of 14 Multiple Village Water Supply 
Schemes.
Among the other major projects for Sahkot are
completion of Sewage Treatment at Shahkot (Rs. 5 Crore),
new Bridge at Jakopur,
Village Lohian (Rs. 8.5 Crore) and
Flood Protection Works along Satluj River (Rs. 4 Crore).
The Chief Minister also announced a grant of Rs 4 crore for school infrastructure and an equal amount to Nagar Panchayat Shahkot, Nagar Panchayat 
Mehatpur and Nagar Panchayat Lohian. He further disclosed that renovation of the Milk Chilling Centre at Shahkot will be undertaken at Rs. 2.5 
Crore.
For Nakodar, the grants announced by the Chief Minister include Rs. 24 crore for repair of 289 Km of Link Roads, Rs. 9 crore for development of 34 Mandis, Rs 1 crore for widening of 6 Bridges on Rural Roads and Rs. 15 crore for repair of Pahgwara–Nakodar Road.
Captain Amarinder reiterated his government’s commitment to bringing the state’s development back on track, and asserted that paucity of funds will not be allowed to hold back such works.

Capt Gifts 7 Development Projects @Rs.199.54 cr for Ludhiana Smart City
Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Sunday gifted Ludhiana projects worth Rs.199.54 crore, to give a major boost to the Smart City’s infrastructural development.
A total of seven major projects were unveiled by the Chief Minister during his visit to the city for the distribution of appointment letters to youth at the culmination of the 2nd Mega Job Fair, conducted by his government under the `Ghar Ghar Rozagar’ scheme.
The projects included
1] LED street lighting (Rs. 44.38 crore),
2]installation of wayfinding & signages (Rs. 9.14 crore),
3]Sarabha Nagar market retrofitting (Rs. 14.88 crore),
4]24×7 Surface Water Based Water Supply Scheme for ABD Area (Rs. 46.50 crore),
5] rehabilitation of existing Sewerage System of ABD area (Rs. 39.30 crore),
6]Rehabilitation & Augmentation of Storm Water Drainage System of ABD Area (22.59 crore) and
7]Smart Street Phase 1 – Malhar Road (Rs. 22.75 crore).
Work orders were in the process of being issued for LED street lighting and wayfinding & signages (digital and analogue) installation.
The LED project envisages replacement of the existing 105,000 lights with the energy saving lighting. Scheduled to start later this month, it will be completed by December 12 to generate guaranteed energy saving of 63.25% (29.75 million units per year), translating into an expected energy saving per annum of Rs 6.09 crore for the first year, with 6% incremental every year thereafter. The wayfinding and signages project will cover 757 signage boards of eight types.
For the Sarabha Nagar market retrofitting, tenders are in the process being invited for the job, which will include design, supply and installation of all landscape works (hardscape, softscape), façade works including undergrounding of electrical services. The main features of the project are: increase and improvement of public plaza, addition of landscape elements, improvement of user comfort, upgradation of services and utilities, electrical undergrounding, additional services such as fire service, ground water recharge for future utilities and regularisation of parking.
For the remaining four projects, tenders have already been issued,
The existing water supply system in ABD area is based on Ground water source, with 25 tube wells, supplying water for about 10 hours per day. The present system is completely unmetered and consumers are charged on flat rate basis. Under the Smart Cities Mission, it is proposed to revamp the entire exiting water supply system by switching to Surface Water Source (Sidhwan Canal) with a new distribution network of 90 kms to ensure 24×7 Pressurized Water Supply. This will also entail formation of District Metering Areas (DMAs) for Effective Management & Leakage Control, 100% Metering equipped with AMR technology, Real Time Monitoring and Demand Driven Distribution and Automated Operation and Control.
The duration of the Design-Build-Commissioning project, slated to start on May 25, will be 21 months, with O&M period of 5 years after completion & commissioning of project works.

Pyare Lal Wadali, the one half of famous Punjabi Sufi singing duo Wadali Brothers, died of heart attack today at a private hospital He was 75.
Wadali with his elder brother Puran Chand Wadali sang popular hits such as
‘Tu maane yaa na maane’ and
Tanu Weds Manu’s ‘Rangrez mere’.
He was admitted to the hospital on Monday but could not be revived.
The singer is survived by wife, two sons and three daughters.
Wadali was honoured with several state and national level awards along with his elder brother.

Punjab CM Capt Amarinder Singh & Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal also condoled the singer’s death.

The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today said that it will ‘gherao’ Punjab Assembly on March 20 in protest against the Congress-led state government for allegedly not honouring poll promises related to farm sector.
As per party spokesman Daljeet Singh Cheema a joint meeting of SAD MLAs, ex MLAs and district presidents will be held on March 14, at the party headquarters to discuss the preparations for the ‘gherao’.

Congress has won 62 of the 95 wards. The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) is a distant second, winning 11 wards while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured wins in 10
The Aam Aadmi Party-Lok Insaaf Party alliance picked up eight wards while Independent candidates won in four wards.
Since counting of votes for the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation election started, the Congress retained a huge lead over other political parties.
Punjab Congress president Sunil Jakhar and Cabinet Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu also lauded the performance of the party in the MC polls, which they said marked the total annihilation of the opposition parties in the state.
Opposition SAD-BJP and AAP had accused the ruling Congress of rigging the polls.

Justin Trudeau today assured Punjab CM Capt Amarinder Singh that Canada does not support any separatist movement:
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Wednesday assured Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh that his country did not support any separatist movement in India or elsewhere.
Trudeau said he had dealt with such threats all his life and was fully aware of the dangers of violence, which he had always pushed back with all his might, the Chief Minister’s Media Advisor Raveen Thukral disclosed after the meeting.
During a 40-minute long meeting here between the two leaders, the Punjab Chief Minister handed over to Trudeau a list of nine Category `A’ Canada-based operatives alleged to be involved in hate crimes in Punjab by financing and supplying weapons for terrorist activities, and also engaged in trying to radicalize youth and children here.
At the meeting, at which Canadian Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan and Punjab Local Government Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu were also present, the Chief Minister raised the issue of Indo-Canadians believed to be involved in targeted killings in Punjab, urging him to take cognizance of the same and initiate stern action against such elements.
This was the first time any Punjab Chief Minister met the Prime Minister of Canada, Thukral pointed out. Chief Principal Secretary Suresh Kumar and Chief Secretary Karan Avtar Singh also accompanied Captain

Punjab government is mulling the creation of district cadres for teachers to ensure that they remain posted in the same area, thus leading to social pressures on them to perform.
This was stated by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh during discussions with researchers and professors of the Centre for Research in Rural and Industrial Development (CRRID) on a range of issues, including education & skill development, raising farm incomes and crop diversification.
Expressing concern over the challenges in education in the state, especially in rural areas, the Chief Minister underlined the need to take up its upgradation on top priority.
