Puducherry Lt Governor Dr Kiran Bedi on Tuesday expressed happiness that Chief Minister V Narayanasamy ended his ‘dharna’ after discussing with her the issues he had raised, including increasing assistance under old age and widow pension schemes.
The former IPS officer, who met Narayanasamy and his ministerial colleagues on Monday, said, “The meeting helped clarify and consolidate issues.”
Narayanasamy had been staging a dharna outside Raj Nivas for six days against what he said was Bedi’s reluctance to approve his welfare schemes and administrative orders. He had written a letter, dated February 7, to Bedi mentioning his demands and the issues.
The meeting to iron out the differences between the two sides last for four and a half hours on Monday.
Outside the lt governor’s residence after the meeting, Narayanasamy told reporters his protest has been called off. The jail bharo and fast programmes slated for February 20 and 21 have also been suspended

[Puducherry] Chief Minister Narayanasamy Sworn in as Member of Puducherry Assembly
Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy was today sworn in as a member of the Assembly.
Speaker V Vaithilingam administered oath to Narayanasamy, who took it in Tamil.
Narayanasamy won the Nellipthope Assembly bypoll, held on November 19, by defeating his immediate AIADMK rival Om Sakthi Segar by a margin of 11,144 votes.
Ministers, MLAs and leaders of the Congress, DMK and other alliance parties, and officials of various departments were among those who greeted him after the swearing-in ceremony.
With his induction, the strength of the Congress has been restored to 15 in the 30-member Assembly. DMK, which has two members, is also supporting the government.
69-year-old Narayanasamy was not a member of the Assembly when he assumed charge as Chief Minister on June 6.

Senior Congress leader and Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy today won the bypoll to the Nellithope Assembly constituency defeating AIADMK’s Om Sakthi Segar, by a margin of 11,144 votes.While Narayanasamy, whose victory was on expected lines, polled 18,709 votes out of the total 26,564 votes, Segar got 7,565 votes.
A John Kumar of the Congress had vacated the seat to enable Narayanasamy, who is not a member of the assembly, contest a by-election before December 6 deadline for getting elected to the House.
Narayanasamy was accorded a tumultuous reception by volunteers of Congress and DMK, its alliance partner in the assembly.
Speaking to reporters outside the counting centre, he said he was grateful to the workers and functionaries of the Congress and DMK and its President M Karunanidhi and its treasurer M K Stalin.
Congress cadres burst crackers at various places to celebrate the victory of Narayanasamy.
Congress has a strength of 15 while its ally DMK two in the 30-member Assembly.

Chief Minister V Narayanasamy said today that The French government is interested for infrastructural development and academic programmes in Puducherry
Disclosing this French Connection to reporters Narayanasamy said he had highlighted various sectors where collaborative initiatives between France and Puducherry could be taken up.
The French connection that Puducherry has was of help for strengthening the bonds with France, he said, adding France was keen on promoting developmental activities.
He said ,A proposal to set up smart city in Puducherry was already discussed with the Centre and this would be a specific area where French help might be available,
The Union Territory Administration has decided to integrate Oulgaret and Puducherry municipalities so that the smart city project could be effectively implemented here.
CM Said “We have also sought the cooperation of France in this significant project. We would soon prepare a detailed project report which would be forwarded to the Centre for its nod,”
Narayanasamy said during his recent visit to New Delhi, he had requested Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu to bring Puducherry under smart city programme.
He said the French Ambassador designate had also expressed interest in promoting academic activities by propagating French language among school children in Puducherry.
The French financial institution — Agence Francaise de Developement — had already expressed its readiness to provide Rs 2,100 crore for Puducherry to augment drinking water supply, promote sanitation programmes and other infrastructures, he said.
