There has been a rush for registration of political parties, with as many as 239 new outfits enrolling themselves with the Election Commission between March, 2014 and July this year, taking their number to 1866.
According to the Commission, as on July 24, there are 1866 political parties which are registered with it. Out of these, 56 are recognised as registered national or state parties, while the rest are “unrecognised, registered” parties.
According to data complied by the Commission, in the last Lok Sabha election in 2014, 464 political parties had fielded candidates.
The data complied by the poll panel was shared with the Law Ministry for use in Parliament. Legislative Department of the ministry is the administrative unit for the poll watchdog.
According to the Election Commission, there were a total of 1,593 such parties in the country till March 10, 2014. 24 more such parties were registered between March 11 and March 21. And by March 26, 10 more outfits had registered as political parties. This was days after the Lok Sabha polls were announced on March 5.
The total number of political parties registered with the EC in March last year stood at 1,627.
Between March, 2014 and July this year, 239 parties registered themselves with the Commission.
These registered but unrecognised political parties do not have the privilege of contesting elections on a symbol of their own.
They have to choose from a list of ‘free symbols’ issued by the poll panel. According to a latest EC circular, 84 such free symbols are available.
Air conditioner, almirah, balloon, chappals, coconut, window, carpet, bottle and bread were some of the ‘free’ symbols available for registered, unrecognised political parties.
The Election Commission had come out with a list of 84 ‘free’ symbols in January this year available with it to be used by registered political parties which are unrecognised.

[New Delhi] Meghalaya Based National People’s Party’s Political Is Recognition Suspended. it is the first case that recognition of a political party has been suspended by the Election Commission under Election Symbols (Reservation and Allotment) Order 1968, for its failure to follow the Lawful directions of the Commission.
Election Commission of India has suspended the recognition of the National People’s Party, a recognized state party in Meghalaya due to its failure in filing the election expenditure statement of the party.
In pursuance of the Hon’ble Supreme Court’s judgement in the case of Common Cause Vs Union of India and others (AIR-1996 SC 3081), the ECI had earlier issued instructions to all political parties, to file their election expenditure statement within 75 days of assembly general elections and 90 days of Lok Sabha general elections. The general election to Lok Sabha, 2014 and elections to the Legislative Assemblies of Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha and Sikkim, 2014 was completed on 28th May, 2014 and as per the Commission’s instructions, the political parties were required to submit their election expenditure statements in connection with the above elections by 26th August, 2014.
The Commission had issued two reminders to the National People’s Party to submit the required statement for Lok Sabha election 2014 after the due date had long expired, on 26th August 2014.
Finally, the Election Commission issued a notice on 17th March 2015 to the party to showcause as to why action should not be taken under para 16A of the Election Symbols (Reservation and Allotment ) Order 1968 for failure to follow the lawful directions and instructions of the Commission;
On receipt of the Notice, the National People’s Party had requested time to submit its expenditure statement by 15th April 2015 and again for time up to by 15 May 2015 but failed to honor the deadline and did not file the expenditure statement of the party.

मालूम हो कि आम आदमी पार्टी पर चुनावी चंदे के माध्यम से काले धन को सफ़ेद करने के नवीनतम आरोप लगे हैं जिससे पार्टी सकते मैं हैं|चूंकि ७ फरवरी की सुबह चुनाव होने हैं ऐसे में राजनीतिक क्षति कि संभावना को समाप्त करने और इस फण्ड के फ्रॉड से ध्यान डाइवर्ट करने के लिए ही ईवीएम का कार्ड खेला गया था

आम चुनाव 2014: विशेष वेब-पोर्टल की शुरूआत के साथ संदर्भ पुस्तिका का विमोचन हुआ
देश में 16वीं लोकसभा के प्रतिनिधियों का चयन करने के लिए आम चुनाव होने जा रहे हैं। पत्र सूचना कार्यालय ने इस विशाल आयोजन के बारे में सूचना उपलब्ध कराने के लिए कई कदम उठाने की योजना की जानकारी दी गई है |
आम चुनावों से संबंधित बहुत सारे विशेष लेख भारत निर्वाचन आयोग के वरिष्ठ अधिकारियों से प्राप्त हुए हैं। ये लेख “भारत में निर्वाचन प्रणाली का विकास”, “भारत में चुनाव कानून”, “जन-प्रतिनिधित्व कानून 1952 की मुख्य विशेषताएं”, मतदाता जागरूकता के लिए “एसवीईईपी कार्यक्रम ” जैसे विषयों पर हैं। इन विशेष लेखों में एनओटीए और वीवीपीएटी जैसी नई बातें मीडिया के लिए दिशा निर्देश, पेड न्यूज, चुनाव-पूर्व सर्वेक्षण और चुनाव-उपरांत सर्वेक्षण जैसे विषय भी शामिल किए गए हैं।
आम चुनाव से जुड़े विविध पहलुओं पर कई तथ्य पत्र+ संदर्भ सामग्री और लेख पहले ही जारी किए जा चुके हैं। संदर्भ सामग्री में 15वीं लोकसभा के चुनावों (2009 के आम चुनाव) पर विशेष ध्यान केन्द्रित करते हुए पिछले चुनावों के विभिन्न पहलुओं का विस्तृत और गहन विश्लेषण किया गया है। राज्यवार तथ्य पत्र जारी किए गए हैं, जो विभिन्न राज्यों के मतदाताओं, संसदीय निर्वाचन क्षेत्रों तथा पिछले चुनावों के बारे में जानकारी प्रदान करते हैं।
पत्र सूचना कार्यालय में प्रधान महानिदेशिका श्रीमती नीलम कपूर ने आज “आम चुनाव-2014 : संदर्भ पुस्तिका” का विमोचन किया।
इस संदर्भ पुस्तिकाको पिछले चुनावों और आम चुनावों से संबंधित नवीनतम प्रावधानों का सार-संग्रह बताया गया है। अंग्रेजी और हिन्दी के अलावा यह संदर्भ पुस्तिका 11 क्षेत्रीय भाषाओं – असमी, बांग्ला, गुजराती, कन्नड़, मलयालम, मराठी, उड़िया, पंजाबी, तमिल, तेलुगू और उर्दू में भी उपलब्ध कराई जाएगी।
साथ ही, पत्र सूचना कार्यालय ने आम चुनाव-2014 को समर्पित एक वेब पोर्टल :की शुरूआत कीगई| इसका इस्तेमाल भारत निर्वाचन आयोग के महत्वपूर्ण निर्देशों, आदेशों और प्रेस विज्ञप्तियों के प्रसार के लिए किया जाएगा। संदर्भ पुस्तिका भी इस पोर्टल पर उपलब्ध होगी। मतगणना वाले दिन यानी 16 मई, 2014 को इस पोर्टल का इस्तेमाल भारत निर्वाचन आयोग द्वारा उपलब्ध कराए गए वास्तविक आंकड़ों के आधार पर आधिकारिक रूझानों और नतीजों का प्रसार करने के लिए भी किया जाएगा। ये रूझान और नतीजे एसएमएस के माध्यम से सोशल मीडिया के साथ भी साझा किए जाएंगे।
