[Srinagar,J&K]Smart City Project Leaves Kashmiri Motorists Helpless
Selected under the Centre’s flagship Smart City scheme, Srinagar has public parking space for just one per cent of the Registerd vehicles So Srinagar residents have been left a helpless lot, knowing not where to park their vehicles in the city with little public parking space.
.The state’s summer capital and its biggest city, Srinagar has over over 2.43 lakh of its residents owning private vehicles besides another 58,000 commercial vehicles registered here, but the Srinagar Municipal Corporation has provided the parking space only for 2460 vehicles,
The parking space crunch has been further aggravated following shifting of the two major bus stands at Batamaloo and Lal Chowk to outskirts of the city on the high court orders.
Adjudicating a public interest litigation on transport and traffic problems in the state, the high court has ordered the traffic police to curb unauthorised roadside parking to ensure a smooth traffic.
The traffic cops, accordingly, have launched a massive drive against all kinds of violations of traffic rules across the state.
In the first three months of 2018, the city traffic cops booked 30,444 drivers for various violations. This includes 1,622 vehicles seized for unauthorised parking.
As per officials The revenue garnered from the fines for traffic rule breaches in the last three month has seen a whopping rise to Rs 58 lakh and it excludes the fines by courts on the vehicles seized in March,
20,000 more parking slots are needed for a smooth traffic.

Four family members of former Congress MP S Rajaiah died in a fire incident at their house in Warangal district of Telangana in the wee hours today,
As per Police,Four persons including Rajaiah’s daughter-in-law (S Sarika) and his three grandchildren, all boys, died in the fire incident,” , all of them succumbed to burn injuries on the spot.
” The fire occurred on the second floor of Rajaiah’s house in Hanamkonda area of Warangal city where the members were staying.
Warangal City Police Commissioner G Sudheer Babu and other police officers are at the spot for assessement of the situation. The fire has been brought under control.
Rajaiah, a former Member of Parliament from Warangal constituency is contesting the Warangal Lok Sabha bypoll scheduled on November 21.Incidentally, a criminal case was filed against Rajaiah, his wife, son and another woman, at the Begumpet women’s police station here in April 2014, following a complaint lodged by Sarika, Rajaiah’s daughter-in-law, who had alleged that her husband and in-laws had been harassing her.

Noted scientist Dr Rajeev Varshney has expressed concern over “decline” in tolerance level in the society at an “alarming pace”.
His comments have come against the backdrop of a series of attacks, which were mostly driven by rumours related to beef consumption by another community.
He said “We should not let political leaders divide the society.
He said that Even eating habits are becoming an issue. Is this the society which our next generation is going to inherit?” he asked while addressing the concluding session of Aligarh Muslim University’s two-day World Alumni Meet here yesterday Varshney, who is winner of the prestigious Dr Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar Award and presently a Director at the Centre of Excellence in Genomics, Hyderabad, said it was “unfortunate that today tolerance level in the society was declining at an alarming pace.”
Participants at the event pledged support to their alma mater, which is celebrating the 200th birth anniversary of its founder Sir Syed Ahmad Khan in 2017.
On the occasion, industrialist Nadeem Akhtar Tarin announced setting up of a new Hall of residence to house 1,000 students, which is being funded entirely by the AMU Alumni Association, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Tarin also pledged to raise more funds to help constructing more halls of residence for boys and girls to accommodate another eight thousand students by the year 2020.
Earlier, the varsity released a souvenir listing names of distinguished alumni of the University. A book based on the essays written by a large number of alumni remembering their days as students at the University was also released.
More than 600 alumni, including those from the US, Pakistan, South Korea, Thailand, Fiji, Egypt and UAE, participated in the two-day conclave.

The Union Finance Minister Shri Arun Jaitley has said that the facilities at India’s 25 Cultural World Heritage Sites are still deficient and require restoration.
While presenting the General Budget 2015-16 in the Parliament today, the Finance Minister Shri Jaitley has stated that the facilities like landscaping restoration, signage and interpretation centres, parking, access for differently abled, amenities for visitors including securities and toilets, illumination and plans for benefiting communities around them would be restored. The Union Finance Minister Shri Jaitley has proposed to provide resources to start work along these lines for the following Heritage Sites:

The appointment of Shri Goswami will be effective from the date of taking over the charge of the post and till the date of his superannuation (Dec. 31,2014) or until further orders, whichever event takes place earlier.
