Filmmaker Karan Johar Today Scripted Controversial Remarks on intolerance and kicked up a storm with the Congress hitting out against the Modi government accusing it of stifling freedom of expression and BJP dismissing the criticism saying India is the most tolerant country.
Wading into the intolerance debate, Johar said,

[2] I believe in the world. Democracy is the second biggest joke I think.”
“I really wonder how are we really democratic? How is there freedom of expression? As a filmmaker, I feel bound at every level be it what I put out on celluloid or what I say in print,” he said at the ongoing Jaipur Literature Festival.
Johar who has made films on contentious issues such as homosexuality (“Dostana”) and relationships outside wedlock (“Kabhi Alvida Na Kehana”), said, “I feel like there is always some kind of a legal notice awaiting me everywhere I go.”
“I’ve become some kind of an FIR king,” Johar said referring to the controversy over the AIB roast, staged in Mumbai last year which involved the western concept of insult comedy.

प्रख्यात कवि और गीतकार गोपालदास ‘नीरज’ ने देश में ‘बढ़ती असहिष्णुता’ के विरोध में साहित्यकारों द्वारा अपने सम्मान लौटाये जाने पर तल्ख टिप्पणी करते हुए कहा है कि अदीबों का यूं सियासत करना बेहद दुखद है और इसके जरिये पूरे देश की मान-मर्यादा से खिलवाड़ हो रहा है।
नीरज ने बरेली में आयोजित अन्तरराष्ट्रीय मुशायरे +कवि सम्मेलन में शिरकत के दौरान संवाददाताओं से बातचीत में पूछे जाने पर कहा
‘‘यह दुख की बात है कि अब साहित्यकार भी सियासत करने लगे हैं। देश में किसी भी तरह की असहिष्णुता नहीं है। झूठी बात प्रचारित करने वाले लोग पूरे देश की मान-मर्यादा से खिलवाड़ कर रहे हैं।’’
पद्मश्री नीरज ने पिछले दिनों देश में असहिष्णुता बढ़ने का आरोप लगाते हुए इसके विरोध में अपने पुरस्कार लौटाने वाले साहित्यकारों को कांग्रेस का ‘चाटुकार’ करार दिया था और कहा था कि कांग्रेस की हुकूमत में जिन्हें पुरस्कार मिला, उन्होंने ही स्वामी भक्ति का प्रदर्शन करते हुए उसे वापस कर दिया।
मशहूर साहित्यकार ने अवार्ड लौटाने वाले साहित्यकारों पर दोहरे पैमाने अपनाने का आरोप लगाया और कहा कि जब लाखों कश्मीरी पंडितों को उनके ही वतन से बेदखल किया गया तब किसी साहित्यकार की आत्मा नहीं जागी। आज बहुमत से चुनी गयी सरकार के खिलाफ रची गयी साजिश में शामिल होकर वे अवार्ड वापस कर रहे हैं।
नीरज ने खासकर समाजवादी पार्टी में बढ़ते परिवारवाद पर कुछ भी बोलने से इनकार कर दिया मगर कहा कि परिवारवाद तो इंदिरा गांधी ने शुरू किया था।
उन्होंने नरेन्द्र मोदी को उर्जावान प्रधानमंत्री और अखिलेश यादव को नयी तथा सकारात्मक सोच का मुख्यमंत्री बताया।

The debate over intolerance in India is an “unnecessary” creation of very imaginative minds being “paid with a lot of money , asserting that it was a politically motivated move before the Bihar polls.
“This particular debate (on intolerance) is no debate. It is the unnecessary creation of very imaginative minds who are being paid with a lot of money,” Minister of State for External Affairs Singh told reporters on the sidelines of the Regional Pravasi Bharatiya Divas here.
Attending the two-day event in place of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, who had to return mid-way from Dubai in the wake of the Paris terror attacks, Singh alleged that debate over intolerance in India was politically motivated and purposefully generated before the Bihar Assembly elections.
“I do not want to comment on how Indian media works. And I will take you back about all the funny things that are being talked about intolerance, what you are meaning. When the Delhi (Assembly) elections took place, suddenly we found a spate of articles and a lot of hysteria that was created that churches are being attacked, the Christian community is being isolated etc,” Singh, who is a former army chief, said in response to a question on intolerance in India.
“A small incidence of theft in a church was depicted as an attack on church. Why? Because there was somebody who was trying to garner the votes, and the media was playing the ball. Whether it was being paid or not paid, I do not know.
That’s a decision or opinion that you have to make,” he said.
