[New Delhi] Justice Gogoi Sworn In As 46th CJI :SC’s New Era Begins
Justice Ranjan Gogoi was Wednesday sworn in as 46th Chief Justice of India.
He succeeds Justice Dipak Misra.
President Ram Nath Kovind administered the oath to the 63-year-old Justice Gogoi at a brief ceremony in Rashtrapati Bhavan’s Darbar Hall.
Justice Gogoi will have a tenure of a little over 13 months and would retire on November 17, 2019.

He told PTI on the sidelines of a programme, when asked about the way forward to resolve the crisis.”There is no crisis,”
Asked whether their act had amounted to a violation of discipline, Gogoi refused to comment, saying, “I have to catch a flight to Lucknow. I cannot talk.”
The senior apex court judge was here to attend the eastern regional meet of the state legal services authorities.
In an unprecedented move, the four senior Supreme Court judges —
justices J Chelameswar,
Ranjan Gogoi,
M B Lokur and
Kurian Joseph —
had called a press conference in New Delhi yesterday and said the situation in the top court was “not in order” and that many “less than desirable” things had taken place.
They had Added ,Unless the institution was preserved, “Democracy will not survive in this country,”

In an unprecedented move, the second senior most judge in the Supreme Court J Chelameswar and three other senior judges today held a press conference on various issues relating to the apex court judiciary.
Justice Chelameswar. said We do not want people to say 20 years later that all four senior-most judges sold their souls:
He added,It is an extremly painful moment for all four of us and there is no pleasure in holding this press conference

The press conference was called at Justice Chelameswar’s residence here at Tughlaq Road.
