[Mumbai] Reservation Inferno Attacks BEST Buses In Mumbai
Two BEST buses were attacked by agitators in Kanjurmarg and Bhandup suburbs of Mumbai.
In view of the stone-pelting on buses, the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) partially suspended its services in those areas
Protesters also hurled stones at a public transport bus in Wagle Estate area of the neighbouring Thane city.
They blocked some areas there, including the key Teen Hath Naka junction, resulting in long queues of vehicles on the road leading to Mumbai.
A bus was also attacked in Ghansoli area of Navi Mumbai following which the city transport authority suspended its services in the area, an official said.
At some places, protesters raised slogans against Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Public Works Department Minister Chandrakant Patil for allegedly insulting sentiments of the Maratha community.
As per officials The suburban railway services on the western, central, harbour and trans-harbour lines were not affected,
Around 70 lakh people travel in local trains daily in the Mumbai region.
The Maratha Kranti Morcha, which is spearheading the agitation for reservation in jobs and education, has called for the shutdown in Mumbai and some neighbouring districts today.
Another outfit, the Sakal Maratha Samaj, called for the bandh in Navi Mumbai and Panvel areas.
Yesterday, large-scale violence marred a state-wide protest by Maratha outfits demanding reservation for the community.
A constable died and nine other policemen were injured amid suicide attempt by three agitators during the violence.
Agitators had clashed with the police and torched vehicles at several places, while Internet services were suspended in rural areas of Aurangabad district to prevent any untoward incident. In Jalna, the police had fired in the air to quell protests.
Quotas for Marathas, a politically influential community that constitutes around 30 per cent of the state’s population, has been a hugely contentious issue.
Fadnavis had cancelled his visit to a temple in Pandharpur on Monday after protesters threatened to disrupt the event.

Popular stand-up comedian Kapil Sharma today alleged that he was asked to pay Rs 5 lakh bribe to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for his office, and tagged Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his tweets while asking if this was the “achche din” he promised.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was, however, quick to respond to Sharma and assured him that strict action would be taken against the culprit.
“I am paying 15 cr income tax from last 5 year n still i have to pay 5 lacs bribe to BMC office for making my office @narendramodi (sic),” Kapil tweeted this morning while expressing his anguish and raising the issue of corruption.”Yeh hain aapke achhe din? @narendramodi,”
the comedian-actor sought to know in another tweet, referring to Modi’s 2014 poll slogan of “good days are ahead”.
The post of Sharma, who has over 6.22 million followers on twitter, was retweeted by many.
Taking cognizance of the complaint, Fadnavis requested the TV host to provide them with necessary information to punish the culprit.
“Kapilbhai pls provide all info. Have directed MC,BMC to take strictest action. We will not spare the culprit,” the CM said in a tweet.The BMC also asked Sharma to reveal the name of the officer who allegedly demanded the bribe.
He was the winner of “The Great Indian Laughter Challenge” in 2007 and later hosted the popular “Comedy Nights with Kapil”.

The move comes after the AG stoked a controversy by advocating separate statehood for the Marathwada region.
He had earlier sparked a similar row by calling for a referendum on a separate Vidarabha state.

Kalyan and Dombivali are satellite cities adjacent to Mumbai and the Municipal Corporation is currently run by the Sena-BJP alliance.
Shiv Sena has decided to go it alone in the forthcoming Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation election and not have any tie-up with the BJP with which it shares power in the state and Centre.
As per sources, The decision was taken last night at a meeting of senior Sena leaders
The development comes after Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis chided the Shiv Sena for bringing the state a bad name due to the protests against former Pakistan Foreign Minister Khurshid Mahmood Kasuri’s book launch in Mumbai.
Shiv Sena is all set to contest all 122 seats alone. The KDMC elections are to be held on November 1.
The Shiv Sena opposed the launch of Kasuri’s book “Neither a Hawk, Nor a Dove: An Insider Account of Pakistan’s Foreign Policy” saying there should be no engagement with Pakistan as long as it supports terror attacks on Indian soil.
Yesterday, Shiv Sena blackened former BJP adviser and columnist Sudheendra Kulkarni, who was the organiser of the event where Kasuri’s book was launched.
Fadnavis, disapproving of the Sena’s protests, said last evening that it had brought disrepute to the state.
“We cannot endorse Kasuri, but can’t let our state turn into banana republic. The rule of law has prevailed. I think the way things have happened has brought a bad name to our state. There could have been better ways to put forth a point of view,” he had said.Kasuri’s book was released last night amid heavy security.

Shiv Sena today accused ORF chief Sudheendra Kulkarni, whose face was blackened by party activists, and threatend to scale up its opposition to former Pakistan Foreign Minister Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri’s book launch
Sena leader Sanjay Raut told reporters that “the man who has organised Kasuri s book launch in Mumbai (Sudheendra Kulkarni) is a Pakistani agent(Maharashtra chief minister Devendra) Fadnavisji has publicly said that Khurshid won’t be allowed to have any anti-India view in his programme and if he does, the organiser will be responsible for it. We welcome the CM’s stand.”
Raut said his party has written a letter to Fadnavis giving all proof that “exposes” Kasuri’s “anti-India” stand.
Claiming that Sena has no “political agenda” behind opposing the book launch event, Raut claimed while Khurshid was Foreign Minister of Pakistan, he was responsible for bringing all extremist anti-India organisations together to “suit their Kashmir agenda.”
He said Sena will continue to boycott all events relating to Pakistan citizens till the neighbouring country stops sponsoring terror.
Earlier in the day, an black paint was sprayed on Kulkarni for not bowing down to Sena’s diktat seeking cancellation of events having Pakistani connection.
Recently, stiff opposition from Shiv Sena led to cancellation of Pakistani ghazal singer Ghulam Ali’s concert in Maharashtra.
