Total proposed investment in the finally selected 100 cities under the Smart Cities mission is now Rs. 2,05,018 crores
Till now, 99 smart cities had been selected in four rounds of competition and with today’s announcement, selection of 100 cities has been completed under the Smart Cities Mission. Previously,
20 cities were selected in January 2016,
13 cities in May 2016,
27 cities in September 2016,
30 cities in June 2017 and
9 cities in January 2018.

Hardeep Puri To Launch 1st Apex Conference For CEOs Of Smart Cities in Bhopal
Minister of State (I/C) for Housing & Urban Affairs Hardeep Puri, will inaugurate the ‘First Apex Conference for the CEOs of Smart Cities ‘in Bhopal tomorrow i.e 8th May 2018.
This ambitious scheme was launched on 25 June 2015
The two-day conference is being organised for providing a platform for cross learning and knowledge sharing among the Smart City CEOs on 8-9 May 2018.
The Apex Conference is being organized with an objective to provide momentum to the cities and a platform for cross-learning, sharing and disseminating the experience gained over the past two and a half years.

Challenging press report published in The Times of India on 22nd Mar 2018 Govt says that The figure of “8% target met “was derived by using only the ‘houses completed data’ which is an incorrect application of statistics.
The progress of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) can be measured by the fact that as on date 40.65 lakh houses have been sanctioned out of which 18.47 lakh houses have been grounded while 3.5 lakh houses have been completed. Apart from this, out of those houses which remained incomplete till march 2014 and sanctioned under JNNURM, 1.7 lakh houses have been completed. Therefore, total number of houses which have been completed is 5.2lakhs.
Of the houses grounded for construction, 55% are at ground level, 12% at foundation and the rest are at various stages of completion.

Hardeep Puri said that “Smart Cities Mission is a step in the direction of achieving our vision to improve the ease of living particularly for the poor, women, elderly and differently abled people.
Smart Cities Summit organized by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry here today, Hardeep S. Puri, Minister of State(I/C) for Housing & Urban Affairs informed that 90 cities have been selected so far. The selection of ten more cities will be announced shortly.
.The quality of some of the smart city plans can be ascertained by the fact that Bhubaneswar smart city plan was adjudged as the best city plan by American Planners Association. This is also first time that cities have created an institutional mechanism (SPVS) at the city level. Till now 82 SPVs have been formed and considering the capacity gaps existing at cities,
