(New Delhi) 1.08 Crore Consumers Surrendered Subsidy on LPG Cylinders
As per Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) 1.08 crore LPG consumers have given up their subsidy.
The prices of petroleum products including LPG in the country are linked to the prices of respective products in the international market. However, the Government continues to modulate the effective price to consumer for Subsidised Domestic LPG and the consumers get the products at subsidised rate. The subsidy on Subsidised Domestic LPG increase/decrease with the increase/decrease in the product price in international market and decision of Government on subsidy.
This information was given by the Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Shri Dharmendra Pradhan in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today.

Taking Into Cognigance Of a Media [TOI] Advertisement Union Ministryof Petroleum & Natural Gas has issued this clarification
Union Ministry says
that PN&G Ministry had advised Karnatka State Government to implement MMABY as a complementary Scheme of PMUY and has advised the State Government to follow the procedure of implementing the Scheme through OMCs only, being done in case of States Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Assam, Punjab and Haryana.
Instead of following the same, the Govt. of Karnataka is unilaterally going ahead with implementation of MMABY directly through distributors’ network without involving OMCs.
As per ministry This system may lead to large scale chaos and implementation issues in the field.
The State Government while announcing the current implementation Modalities of MMABY has gone back on the earlier agreed commitment in the joint meeting of Union Minister of PNG and Minister of Food & Civil Supplies, Govt. of Karnataka. Therefore, it is clarified that current format of MMABY not being in line with established procedure and hence is not having concurrence of Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of State (I/C) for Petroleum & Natural Gas met the US Secretary of Energy Dr Ernest Moniz in Washington on Monday.
The two Ministers reviewed bilateral energy cooperation, especially in oil and gas sector between the two countries.
The two sides agreed to enhance institutional and technical cooperation in specific areas:
The bilateral energy cooperation between the two countries had started in the form of energy dialogue in 2005 under which oil and gas is also discussed.
It may be noted that GAIL has contracted for import of LNG from the US to the tune of 5.8 MMT per year from end 2017. Indian companies have also invested in shale oil and gas projects in the US, i.e. GAIL has 20% equity in Eagle Ford basin; IOC and OIL have 10% equity in Niobrara basin).

[New Delhi,Chandigarh]Chandigarh Declared Kerosene Free From Today Itself
From 1st April, 2016, Chandigarh declared kerosene free, with the efforts of the city Administration and Oil Marketing Companies. Thus, no further distribution of subsidized kerosene will be done in Chandigarh from the month of April, 2016 onwards.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India with the help of Chandigarh Administration has been working for the last few months to make Chandigarh ‘a Kerosene Free City’. MoPNG decided to facilitate the households presently using Kerosene Oil by facilitating switchover to LPG. In the whole process and to facilitate the kerosene beneficiaries to have LPG connections, the following steps were taken by OMCs and Chandigarh administration:
a)Camps were organized at various localities in consultation with Chandigarh administration to provide hassle free LPG connections.
b)Deposit free LPG connections were provided to BPL households and interest free loan scheme was launched for APL households.
c)IEC campaign in the form of distribution of Pamphlets and Radio Jingles was done to create awareness among the mass.
During this campaign, a total of 15,249 LPG connections were provided in Chandigarh city, including 1574 for BPL households.
Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of State (I/C) MoPNG has congratulated the people of Chandigarh for this unique achievement and thanked all the public representatives, the Chandigarh administration and the OMC officials for their untiring efforts in making this possible.

LPG Distributors Have been directed to carry out pre-delivery inspection at customers premise
The Minister of State (I/C) for Petroleum & Natural Gas Shri Dharmendra Pradhan informed the Lok Sabha in a written reply today that strict instructions have been issued to all distributors to carry out pre-delivery inspection at customers premise at the time of refill delivery.
However, in case any subsequent leakage emergency, a multi-lingual emergency helpline 1906 has been publicized on which the customer can contact in emergency.
In order to ensure the quality of LPG cylinders, the following quality checks are carried out:-
[a]LPG cylinders bottled at Plants are checked and only sound cylinders are sent for filling. After filling, the cylinders are despatched to the distributors after passing for quality checks for leaks.
[b]Statistical quality checks are conducted for the cylinders at bottling plants before despatch to distributors.
[c]LPG cylinders are periodically tested for safety as per norms of the Chief controller of Explosives, PESO.
