श्री गुलाम नबी आजाद ने सभी हितधारकों के सामूहिक प्रयासों की सराहना की
रोटरी इंटरनेशनल द्वारा आयोजित पोलिओ मुक्त कान्क्लेव २०१४ में राष्ट्रपति श्री प्रणब मुखर्जी ने पूर्व केंद्रीय स्वास्थ्य एवं परिवार कल्याण मंत्री डॉ रामदॉस और वर्तमान मंत्री गुलाम नबी आजाद को मोमेंटो प्रदान किए।
इस अवसर पर राष्ट्र पति श्री प्रणब मुखर्जी ने देश को पोलियो से मुक्त बनाने के लिए सरकार सहित अनेक संस्थाओं के प्रयासों की यह कहते हुए सराहना की कि यह महत्वरपूर्ण और ऐतिहासिक उपलब्धि है। उन्होंंने कहा कि स्वास्थ्य कुछ समय से भारत सरकार के लिए प्राथमिकता रही है।
देश को पोलियो के वायरस से मुक्त कराने के लिए अभूतपूर्व कार्यक्रम केंद्र और राज्य सरकारों+रोटरी इंटरनेशनल+ युनिसेफ+ वर्ल्ड हेल्थ आर्गेनाइज़ेशन + सीडीसी और मिलिंडा एंड गेट्स फाउंडेशन जैसी एजेंसियों के सहयोग से चलाया गया।
इस अवसर पर गुलाम नबी आजाद ने भारत को पोलिओ मुक्त बनाने का श्रेय नई स्वदेशी पोलियो वैक्सी्न को दिया इस अवसर पर सचिव श्री लव वर्मा, डॉ हर्ष वर्धन, रोटरी इंटरनेशनल के अध्यक्ष श्री ग्रे हुआंग, रोटरी फांउडेशन के चेयरमैन डी के ली सहित अनेक जानी मानी हस्तियां मौजूद थी।

A group of 29 officers trainees of 35th (2013) batch of the Indian Economic Service called on the President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhavan today (March 24, 2014).
Speaking on this occasion, the President stated that the officers of the Indian Economic Service serve as a key instrument in advising policy makers and planners. He said that the importance of sound economic advice in the policy arena in today’s complex world is being increasingly realized. He said that economic policy making is becoming increasingly complex.
In the budget for 1947-48, we had revenue of Rs. 171 crore and expenditure of Rs. 197 crore. Compared to this,
in 2013-14, we had revenue of Rs. 10.3 lakh crore and expenditure of Rs. 15.9 lakh crore. There are structural changes taking place due to the dynamic character of the economy and its deep inter-linkages with the global economy. This challenge has to be met with robust policies and programmes. He said that officer trainees of Indian Economic Service will be an important instrument in the task of setting the future destiny of the country.
The President stated that he had a firm belief in the strong resilience of the Indian economy. It had withstood many a crisis due to the contribution, among others, of farmers, industrial workers and policy makers.

President of India conveys deep concern and sympathy over missing Malaysian airlines flight
The President of India, Pranab Mukherjee has conveyed his deep concern and sympathy over the Malaysian Airlines flight, which has been missing since Friday night.
In a message to the King of Malaysia, the President has said, “On behalf of the Government and people of India and on my own behalf, I wish to convey our deep concern and sympathy to the Government of Malaysia and to the families of those who were aboard the Malaysian Airlines flight, missing since Friday night. In addition to the many Malaysians and other nationalities, five Indian nationals were also on board the flight.
Our officials have been in constant contact with concerned Malaysian authorities in this regard. We appreciate the efforts of the Government of Malaysia to locate the missing aircraft and are ready to provide any help needed.
Our sympathies and prayers are with the families of those on that flight and we pray for those people”.

राष्ट्रपति श्री प्रणब मुखर्जी ने आज पश्चिम बंगाल के नाबाग्राम में बरहामपुर सैन्य स्टेशन की आधारशिला रखी।
राष्ट्रपति ने इस मौके पर अपने संबोधन में कहा कि राष्ट्र की सेवा के लिए प्रतिबद्धता और समर्पण का भारतीय सेना का लम्बा इतिहास रहा है। उन्होंने उम्मीद जताई है कि बरहामपुर सैन्य स्टेशन इस ऐतिहासिक परंपरा को आगे भी जारी रखेगा। राष्ट्रपति ने ड्यूटी के दौरान देश की सेवा के लिए अपने प्राणों को न्यौछावर करने वाले शहीदों को भी याद किया। उन्होंने बरहामपुर सैन्य स्टेशन की स्थापना के संबंध में रक्षा मंत्रालय, भारतीय सेना और पश्चिम बंगाल सरकार के योगदान की सराहना की। इसके अलावा उन्होंने सैन्य स्टेशन के लिए भूमि प्रदान करने हेतु स्थानीय लोगों के योगदान की भी सराहना की।

The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee presented the International Gandhi Award for the year 2013 to Dr. Vijaykumar Vinayak Dongre and Prof. Guocheng Zhang for making outstanding contribution in the field of leprosy on February 15, 2014 at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi.
Speaking on this occasion, President said that the need of the hour is to intensify our efforts towards early detection of leprosy cases, provide equitable access to appropriate treatment and provide integrated leprosy services in the geographically focused areas. Over the years, the scourge of leprosy has remained a blot on humanity. More than the medical condition, the social stigma attached to the disease is a cause for concern. He stated that there is a need to empower those who have been socially discriminated an account of leprosy, through advocacy and information dissemination. Social challenges for leprosy do persist, but at the same time, it is heartening to note that the United Nations has now passed a resolution on discrimination against people affected by leprosy and efforts are being made to repeal laws that prevent people affected by leprosy from participating in society.
The President extended his heartiest congratulations to the recipients of the International Gandhi Award for Leprosy– Prof. Guocheng Zhang and Dr. V. V. Dongre who have both dedicated several decades of their lives to eradicating leprosy through treatment, training and research.

The President said that the latest World Health Organization Expert Committee has set the challenge to reduce the rate of new patients with disability due to leprosy to one in a million by 2020. This challenge can be met only through a multi – dimensional and integrated approach. He urged all stakeholders to come together and make concerted efforts for the total eradication of leprosy. He also wished the Gandhi Memorial Leprosy Foundation and all those involved in this noble mission all success in their endeavors.
The International Gandhi Award was instituted by the Gandhi Memorial Leprosy Foundation to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi’s service and scientific approach towards leprosy. The two awards are given every alternate year to individuals/institutions for making outstanding contribution in the field of leprosy.

Pranab Mukherjee Preaches Advocates To fight for the rights of citizens
The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee inaugurated the 150th Anniversary of the Advocates’ Association of Western India, Mumbai at Mumbai.

Speaking on this occasion, the President said that lawyers have a duty to ensure that none is denied justice and they should act as the common man’s soldiers who fight for the rights of citizens. In addition, they have to continuously strive to uphold the supremacy of the constitution. This can only be achieved if the judiciary remains transparent, impartial and speedily dispenses justice.
The President said that delay in justice delivery can only be rectified with active cooperation of bar associations. Through their association, they should exhort their members to only seek adjournments where the reasons are compelling. This is of singular importance as delays increase the cost of litigation rendering justice a distance mirage for the vast majority.
The President said to play their roles effectively, lawyers would need to ensure that the legal fraternity is knowledgeable, well-trained, equipped with the best of facilities and infrastructure and most importantly, socially committed. They must exude confidence and feel secure in their profession.
This is a precondition for the establishment of an effective justice delivery system.
Praising the Advocates’ Association of Western India, the President said its formation was a significant moment in political history of India. It signaled an awakening amongst those in the legal profession to play a more active role in the movement for self rule. It spawned a new breed of leadership from this profession that played a critical role in the struggle to achieve independence.

गौरतलब है कि दोषी सांसदों+विधायकों पर सुप्रीम कोर्ट के फैसले को उलटने वाले यूं पी ऐ के अध्यादेश को कांग्रेस ने स्वयम ही बकवास बताया तो भाजपा ने इसे नाटक कहा है|इस विवादास्पद अध्यादेश पर अब राजनीती शुरु हो गई है|प्रेजिडेंट प्रणब मुखर्जी ने भी अध्यादेश पर हस्ताक्षर करने से पूर्व इसके ओचित्य पर कुछ प्रश्न उठाये हैं जिसे लेकर केंद्र सरकार की कार्यप्रणाली हास्यास्पद बन कर रह गई है|पांच राज्यों में होने वाले चुनावों में इसके नकारात्मक असर को बेअसर करने के लिए कांग्रेस के राष्ट्रीय उपाध्यक्ष राहुल गाँधी ने इस विवादित अध्यादेश को ‘बिल्कुल बकवास’ करार दिया है और अपनी ही सरकार की आलोचना भी कर डाली है जिसे अब पार्टी की लाइन बतया जा रहा है|
