The President of India, Pranab Mukherjee expressed shock and deep sadness over the deadly attack against innocent civilians in Orlando, USA.
In a message to his Counterpart in USA, Barack Obama, the President had said “I was shocked and deeply saddened to hear of the deadly attack against innocent civilians in Orlando earlier today.
I offer my deepest sympathies to all those who have been affected by this terrible tragedy.
India condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. We believe that there can be no justification for such senseless acts of violence.
This event is yet another grim reminder that the world must come together to address, comprehensively and urgently, the scourge of terrorism, its perpetrators and also those who support or harbour them.
The people of India stand by the people of the United States of America in their moment of grief and mourning. We pray for the families that have lost loved ones and for the swift recovery of the injured”.

As per President Secretariat The Mughal Gardens will remain open for general public from February 12 to March 19, 2016 (except on Mondays which are maintenance days) between 0930 hrs to 1600 hrs.
Public will also be able to visit the Spiritual Garden+Herbal Garden+Bonsai Garden+ Musical Garden

The President of India, Pranab Mukherjee has greeted his fellow countrymen on the eve of festivals of Lohri, Makar Sankranti and Pongal, which fall on January 13th, 14th and 15th respectively.
In his message the President has said, “On the auspicious occasion of Lohri, Makar Sankranti and Pongal, I extend warm greetings to my fellow citizens and wish them success, happiness and prosperity.

[New Delhi]Ex-Def Secy RK Mathur Sworn In as Eighth CIC
Former Defence Secretary RK Mathur was today sworn in as the eighth Chief Information Commissioner by President Pranab Mukherjee at a ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan
62-year-old Mathur, a retired IAS officer of Tripura cadre, completed his two-year fixed tenure as Defence Secretary in May last year.As the CIC, he will have a tenure of about three years, till he attains the age of 65 years.
The oath ceremony could not be held earlier as the President was on a southern sojourn for 14 days and returned on December 31.
The Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led selection committee, which has Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and leader of Congress party in Lok Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, as its members, had last year on December 16 selected Mathur as the new CIC.
The Central Information Commission has been headless twice since the BJP government came to power in 2014. Earlier, it was without a chief for nearly 10 months after the completion of the tenure of the then Chief Information Commissioner, Rajiv Mathur, in August, 2014.
It again fell vacant a month back following the retirement of Vijai Sharma.At present, there are seven Information Commissioners — Basant Seth, Yashovardhan Azad, Sharat Sabharwal, Manjula Prasher, MA Khan Yusufi, Madabhushanam Sridhar Acharyulu and Sudhir Bhargava.
The Commission is made up of one chief and 10 Information Commissioners. The posts of three Information Commissioners are still vacant

The President of India, Pranab Mukherjee has condoled the loss of lives and damage to infrastructure in Chennai and several others parts of Tamil Nadu due to heavy rains.
In a message to Dr. K. Rosaiah, the Governor of Tamil Nadu, the President has said “I am very sad to learn about the loss of human lives and serious damage to infrastructure in Chennai and several others parts of Tamil Nadu due to heavy rains.
I understand that relief and rescue efforts are ongoing and am confident that the people of Tamil Nadu will overcome this tragedy with fortitude and dignity.
I share the grief of those who have lost their near and dear ones and extend my sympathies to all whose lives have been affected. I appreciate the efforts of the State Government, NDRF, civil society organisations and rescue workers as they continue to save lives and mitigate the suffering of the affected population.
I call upon the State Government and all other authorities to provide every assistance possible to the bereaved families as well as those affected.
My prayers and good wishes are with the people of Tamil Nadu during this difficult time”.

Probationers of Indian Defence Accounts service called on President today
A group of probationers of Indian Defence Accounts Service[IDAS](2014 and 2015 batches) called on the President of India,Pranab Mukherjee today at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Speaking on the occasion, the President extended heartiest congratulations to all the young officers for having cleared the civil services exam which is recognized as one of the toughest competitive examinations. He welcomed the young probationers to Government service and assured them that there will be no dearth of challenges and opportunities in their long career ahead. He stated that the canvas, scope and breadth of exposure and responsibility that a career in Government offers, and that too at a relatively young age, is an experience and opportunity unlike any other. He stated that he was sure that the 24 week professional training at the National Institute of Financial Management, followed by another 28 week stint at their service academy which they undergo will acquaint them with the intricacies and nuances of the Department.
The President said that the Service that they are joining is the core of the Defence Accounts Department. Established several years ago, this Department was until 1951 known as the Military Accounts Department. The Department renders finance related services and is mandated with the task of ensuring financial propriety and accountability in the Ministry of Defence. It handles the payment & accounting functions, pension management, internal audit, budget management and the financial advice function for the Armed Forces and the allied establishments i.e. the Ordnance Factories, Coast Guard and Boarder Roads. He stated that the Department has the crucial responsibility of guaranteeing financial propriety, probity and integrity in all transactions. The increase in defence outlays requires that all of them remain abreast of the latest techniques in financial management and deliver sound financial advice in a timely and efficient manner.

The Department has been performing the responsibility of ‘Serving the Services’ in a highly professional manner. It has also kept pace with overall developments and been re-orienting itself to emerging opportunities and challenges. I am sure the Defence Accounts Department will continue to maintain its high professional standards and display extraordinary commitment in order to meet the expectations of the Defence Forces.
