[Puducherry] CM Of Puducherry V Narayanasamy Wins by poll Against AIADMK
Senior Congress leader and Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy today won the bypoll to the Nellithope Assembly constituency defeating AIADMK’s Om Sakthi Segar, by a margin of 11,144 votes.While Narayanasamy, whose victory was on expected lines, polled 18,709 votes out of the total 26,564 votes, Segar got 7,565 votes.
A John Kumar of the Congress had vacated the seat to enable Narayanasamy, who is not a member of the assembly, contest a by-election before December 6 deadline for getting elected to the House.
Narayanasamy was accorded a tumultuous reception by volunteers of Congress and DMK, its alliance partner in the assembly.
Speaking to reporters outside the counting centre, he said he was grateful to the workers and functionaries of the Congress and DMK and its President M Karunanidhi and its treasurer M K Stalin.
Congress cadres burst crackers at various places to celebrate the victory of Narayanasamy.
Congress has a strength of 15 while its ally DMK two in the 30-member Assembly.

A five-ft tall stone Shiva Lingam, believed to be more than 300 years old, has been unearthed by a farmer in Poornankuppam,
As per Local Authorities ,Puthupattan (56) was digging his field with an earthmover when the machine suddenly hit a hard object about four feet beneath the earth. The farmer and other locals dug up the pit and found the Lingam,
Preliminary study indicated that the lingam was more than 300 years old.
However the exact period to which it belonged could be ascertained only after inspection by experts from Archaeological Survey of India on November 7,
Meanwhile people from nearby villages flocked to the spot on hearing about the Lingam. Some of them performed poojas and sprinkled flowers on it, they said

Puducherry government would write off crop loans by farmers to the primary agricultural cooperative societies, totalling about Rs 20 crores.
Talking to reporters Chief Minister V Narayanasamy said the cabinet had approved the proposal of the Cooperative Department to write off crop loans totalling Rs 20 crores due from farmers to the primary agricultural cooperative societies.
This would benefit around 6000 farmers in the union territory,
He said the cabinet had also decided to encourage private players to set up universities in the Union Territory in keeping with the stand of the Central government.
“The government will only be a facilitator and all the logistics to set up the university including acquisition of land would be the responsibility of the private entrepreneurs”,

Dr Kiran Bedi launched coastal clean up drive
Lt Governor Kiran Bedi today joined Coast Guard and volunteers in cleaning garbage from the beach as part of the ’31nd International Coastal Clean Up Day’.
Addressing a gathering after inaugurating the programme, she urged people to respect nature and not to dirty the beach.
Earlier, Bedi and Local Administration Minister A Namassivayam administered a pledge for ‘garbage free beaches’ to volunteers of NSS, NCC, NGOs, members of Indian Coast Guard and others.
She picked up the garbage strewn along the beach with volunteers and the minister and other officials also took part in the drive.
DIG of Indian Coast Guard Commander S C Tyagi said the drive was being carried out in all coastal pockets in Puducherry as part of the international drive.
The programme was organised by the Indian Coast Guard here in association with the Local Administration Department.

BJP leader and former IPS officer Kiran Bedi was today appointed as Lt Governor of Puducherry, a post which was under the additional charge of Lt Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Island for nearly two years.
A Rashtrapati Bhawan communique said “the President has been pleased to appoint Ms Kiran Bedi, to be the Lt. Governor of Puducherry with effect from the date she assumes charges of her office.”
66-year-old Bedi said “I look forward to giving every bit of myself to the responsibility. I am there for the benefit of the country. I am here to give my best every day, each day. I am grateful for the government’s decision. They trusted me,”, She is the country’s first woman IPS officer and who had led the BJP campaign for the 2015 Delhi Assembly polls without any success,
The appointment came three days after the Congress-DMK alliance won 17 seats in the 30-member state Assembly. AIADMK, which contested the elections on its own, won four seats while BJP could not get even a single seat.
The LG post in the Union territory had been lying vacant after the Narendra Modi Government had sacked UPA nominee Virendra Kataria on July 12 barely a year after he had been appointed. Lt Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Island Lt Gen Ajay Singh had been given additional charge of Puducherry.
Born on June 9, 1949, Bedi had led the BJP campaign in the 2015 Delhi Assembly elections but had to face the worst defeat in her maiden political innings with Arvind Kejriwal- led AAP winning 67 of the 70 seats.
An IPS officer of 1972 batch, Bedi had sought voluntary retirement from the service in 2007. She was then posted as Director General, Bureau of Police Research and Development.
A sports lover and an author, Bedi is a recipient of Ramon Magsaysay Award as well as UN Medal for outstanding service. She was one of the pioneers of anti-corruption crusade in 2011 along with Anna Hazare and Kejriwal against the then UPA government.
She also earned a law degree at Delhi University in 1988 and a PhD from IIT Delhi’s Department of Social Sciences in 1993.

The prestigious Bharat Nirman Public Information Campaign at Karaikkal, Puducherry was inaugurated, in a festive atmosphere, by Minister of State in the PMO Shri V Narayanasamy. He lighted the traditional kuthvilakku, marking the beginning of the three day information – cum – interactive sessions and exhibition.
The exhibition is being organized by Press Information Bureau in association with media units of the Ministry of I. & B and Karaikal administration. More than 70 stalls, depicting the various developments & welfare initiatives of the government are being effectively laid out in the exhibition venue.
Shri Narayanasamy also released a set of twelve booklets in Tamil depicting the various Bharat Nirman schemes in simple Tamil. The first copies of the illustrated booklets were received by Shri A H M Najeem, MLA.
The inaugural session was also attended by Shri V Vaithilingam, Leader of Opposition, Puducherry Legislature, Dr A Muthamma, Disctrict Collector Karaikkal as well as Shri K M Ravindran, ADG, PIB, Chennai and Shri Manoj Pandy, ADG, PIB, New Delhi, shri N V Nagarajan, Diretor, DFP an Shri Ravi Kumar, Assistant Director, DAVP..
A colorful rally was organised . Students from NSS+Junior Red Cross+ Scouts and Guides etc took part in this rally, carrying banners and boards showing the various schemes including the core program-mes of the Bharat Nirman.
Various sessions on rural development, Sarva Siksha Abhiyan+ NRHM+ Janani Shishu Suraksha+ women empowerment+PM’s 15-point program me for minorities’ welfare+ will be addressed by government officials and opinion makers. Government’s recent initiatives like Unique Identification Card “Aadhar”, land acquisition, Direct Benefit Transfer scheme, etc., will be in focus during the exhibition.
Besides the exhibition at the Municipal Ground, Karaikal, the Directorate of Field Publicity had already begun village-level campaign programme in identified six locations around Karaikal.
This is the 47th Public Information Campaign being conducted in Tamil Nadu. The objective of the campaign is to highlight the various developmental & welfare programmes of the government.
