[Chd,Pb] Akali+BJP Got House Adjourned For 30 Minutes Over Farm Loan Waiver
Members of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD)-BJP today forced an adjournment of Punjab Assembly for 30 minutes over the issue of farm loan waiver.
As the Zero hour commenced, SAD and BJP members wearing black robes as a mark of protest raised the issue of loan waiver.
Led by former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and former deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, the SAD-BJP members trooped into the Well of the House and shouted slogans against the state government.
As the protests continued, Speaker Rana K P Singh adjourned the House for 30 minutes.
Sukhbir Singh Badal said the protest was against the Congress government’s “failure in implementing the Rs 90,000 crore farm loan waiver promise”.
Yesterday, the SAD-BJP had tried to gherao the Assembly demanding implementation of the Rs 90,000 crore loan waiver for all farmers, including loans from nationalised and cooperative banks as well as private money lenders.
As the House re-assembled after 30-minute adjournment, Leader of Opposition Sukhpal Singh Khaira sought a debate on suicides by farmers in the state.
