Sidhu Absented him self ,So 15 Congress councillors boycott this election
Karamjit Singh Rintu was today unanimously elected as Amritsar’s mayor by all the municipal corporation councillors, owing allegiance to the Congress.
[2]Raman Bakshi was elected as senior deputy mayor,
[3]Younis Kumar was elected as deputy mayor for the holy city.
Punjab Local Bodies minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, who is an MLA from Amritsar (East), was conspicuous by his absence.
Yesterday, apparently miffed over not being invited for the Amritsar mayoral election, Sidhu had said “he never goes anywhere uninvited except the Golden Temple or Durgiana Temple”.
Notably, Sidhu and Rintu were not on good terms. Sidhu also does not share a good rapport with senior deputy mayor Bakshi, who once pasted posters of Sidhu “missing” in city when the latter was in the BJP.
Rintu had also reportedly remained annoyed with the party when he was denied ticket from the Amritsar North Assembly constituency during the 2017 Assembly polls.

today joined the Congress in the presence of PCC chief Amarinder Singh
Mahesh Inder Singh represents the Baghapurana Assembly seat,
Rajwinder Kaur is the sitting MLA from Nihal Singh Wala constituency.
Welcoming them into the party fold, capt Amarinder said this will help strengthen the Congress party ahead of the upcoming polls. He reiterated that the exodus of leaders and workers from SAD and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) would further increase as the elections drew closer, especially after the imposition of the Code of Conduct in Punjab.

Confirmed his meeting, with Navjot Singh Sidhu
He said “I can tell you that I have met him. I hope very soon he will be making his announcement. I found him in a very positive frame of mind. I hope it will be a positive decision,” Amarinder said
Sidhu’s entry into Congress has been speculated for a long time now. His wife Navjot Kaur joined the party recently, giving ample indications that he would also come on board.
Sidhu was earlier in talks with AAP but it did not materialise leading to a split in his recently formed outfit Awaaz-E-Punjab.
Two formidable members of Awaaz-E-Punjab and sitting independent MLAs – Balwinder Singh Bains and Simarjit Singh Bains from Ludhiana, parted ways with Sidhu to join the Arvind Kejriwal led AAP.
Pargat Singh, the other member, joined the Congress along with Sidhu’s wife

Badal moved a resolution saying in the interest of the people of Punjab, the House unanimously directs the state government, Cabinet and all government officials not to hand over the state’s land for the construction of SYL canal and neither allow anybody to work on it, nor to cooperate for the purpose.
The resolution was moved amidst empty opposition benches
All 42 Congress MLAs had resigned from the state Assembly after the apex court’s decision on Thursday.
A special session of the state Assembly was convened after the Supreme Court held as “unconstitutional” the 2004 law passed by the Punjab government to terminate the SYL canal water sharing agreement with neighbouring states.
Yesterday, upping the ante against the construction of Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) canal, Punjab Cabinet announced that it will denotify the land acquired for the project and return it to the “original owners” at no cost

Punjab Congress leaders have been staging sit-in front of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal’s house demanding the transfer of Ludhiana Police Commissioner Jatinder Singh Aulakh and suspension of the ADCP for their alleged biased role in registering cases against Congress leaders.
A violent clash had erupted between Congress and Akali Dal activists on Dussehra eve in Ludhiana when Congress workers tried to burn the effigy of ‘Chitta Ravan’ and it had left several people injured.

Punjabi Capt Amarinder Corners Badal Govt over Foodgrain Scam

[Chandigarh,Punjab]Cong’s Punjabi Capt Amarinder Corners Badal Govt over Foodgrain Scam
Hitting out at the Badals over the alleged multi-crore food grains scam, Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh today vowed to recover every penny of the public money from the “corrupt Badal and company” once the party came back to power in the state.
He said when he took over the reins of the state from the Akalis in 2002, Punjab’s outstanding Central debt amounted to Rs 4,500 crore.
It is only since the Badals came back to power that the state has again been plunged into an intense debt trap, Singh said.
The PCC chief claimed that with the latest Rs 30,000 crore loan from RBI restructured, the state will reel under a debt burden of Rs 50,000 crore for the next 20 years.
In its complaint to the Vigilance Bureau in April this year, the state Congress had pointed out that the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had prima facie concluded that the disappearance of stocks worth Rs 32,000 crore was a case of misappropriation of Central funds and diversion of food grain.
Of the 3,319 trucks that were claimed to have been used by the state procurement agencies for transporting the grains, CAG had, in a random check of their registration numbers, found that 87 vehicles were actually two-wheelers and cars, Singh said.
The remaining could not be traced, clearly indicating that the grain never reached the stores but in fact disappeared from the market itself, party spokesman Sunil Jhakar had said.
The Punjab Congress has already demanded a probe into the matter by either the Central Bureau of Investigation or a High Court judge

Congress’s 26 Protesting MLAs Refuse to Vacate Pb Assembly Complex

[Chandigarh,Punjab]Congress’s 26 Protesting Punjabi MLAs Refuse to Vacate Pb Assembly Complex
Congress MLAs today refused to vacate the Assembly even after spending the night in the House and stuck to their demand of a debate on the no-confidence motion moved by the party against the state government.
The protesting MLAs refused to accept the appeal of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, who reached the spot in the afternoon, to call off their protest.
As many as 26 Congress MLAs have been protesting against the decision of the Speaker not allowing a debate on the no-confidence motion which was defeated by a voice vote yesterday.
Earlier in the day, a heated exchange took place between the security personnel and the MLAs, including Amarinder Raja Warring and Sukhjinder Randhawa, after the police stopped their colleagues from entering the Assembly complex.
Despite the security personnel restricting the entry, Warring and Randhawa managed to bring two MLAs, Sadhu Singh Dharamsot and Balbir Singh Sidhu, into the Assembly complex.
Senior leaders Ambika Soni, Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, Lal Singh and Raj Kumar Verka were among those not allowed entry into the House and they were sitting outside the Assembly.
Bhattal alleged that not allowing the Congress MLAs to enter the House amounted to “murder of democracy” and asserted that they will take the fight to the streets.
Several MLAs, staged a protest outside the Assembly complex and some Congress members even burnt an effigy of the SAD-BJP government.
Security personnel put up barricades on the road leading to the Assembly to stop the entry of the MLAs and the media.
Restrictions were imposed on the entry to the Assembly.
In a letter, written by Punjab Assembly Secretariat to the DIG (Security), it was mentioned, “Today being a holiday and due to maintenance and security related matters of the Punjab Assembly and its premises, no person except the Assembly staff and security is allowed to enter the premises without the permission of Speaker.”
Speaking to the media, Lal Singh said they were being treated like “terrorists”, wondering how could MLAs be stopped from entering the Assembly.
Meanwhile, the 26 MLAs continued with their protest inside the Assembly by wearing aprons with the following words written on them — ‘Punjab da cancer — Badal Parivar’ (Punjab’s cancer — the Badal family).
Subsequently, the Chief Minister reached the Assembly and appealed to the protesting MLAs to vacate the House.

Capt Amarinder Also Assures Completely Free Power To Punjabi Farmers

[Jalandhar,Punjab] Cong Capt Amarinder Also Assures Free Power To Punjabi Farmers
PCC president Amarinder Singh today said if Congress comes to power, farmers will get free electricity.
He said if Congress is voted to power he will not only provide free power to farmers, but also ensure its regular supply.
Besides, Singh added, there will be no hidden charges as imposed on farmers by the Badal government.
He said the farmers were being made to pay huge amount of money for superfluous reasons that virtually negated the idea of free power. “I have promised that free power means completely free power without any hidden charges that you (Badal) are imposing,” he said.
Singh also challenged Badal to swear before Akal Takht that he had not signed and approved the construction of Satluj-Yamuna Link canal to “please” his friend and the then Haryana Chief Minister Devi Lal in 1978.
Referring to Badal’s charge that he was part of the design to construct the SYL, Singh said, “why have you kept quiet over Devi Lal’s statement in Haryana Vidhan Sabha that I made public where he has completely exposed your complicity”

Former Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh’s son Raninder has been issued a fresh summons to appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Punjab in connection with its probe against him for alleged forex contraventions and holding of untaxed foreign assets.
Official sources said Raninder has been asked to appear before the investigating officer (IO) in the case on July 14 at the ED zonal office in Jalandhar.
He has also been asked to bring personal financial documents with him, they said.
This is the second summons to Raninder after he had sought exemption from personal appearance last month, citing health reasons.
Raninder has been summoned to explain the alleged movement of funds to Switzerland and creation of a trust and a few subsidiaries in the tax haven of British Virgin Islands.
The alleged violations had earlier been investigated by the Income Tax department and a case in this regard was being heard in a court in Punjab. The next hearing in the case is slated for July 26.
Raninder had earlier said he did not have anything to hide and was willing to cooperate with the probe.
The case came to light when the Income Tax department received information about Raninder allegedly holding the offshore account in the alpine nation as part of details received by the Central Board of Direct Taxes from its French counterparts in 2011.
The sources said ED investigators have gathered necessary documents from a competent court in Punjab and RBI, and they suspect “contravention of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA)” by the accused.
Both Raninder and his father Amarinder, a Congress MP, have denied any wrongdoing and termed as “false” the charges

Congress Punjab Captain Amarinder Welcomes Brar’s Expulsion from Congress
Punjab Congress Chief Amarinder Singh today welcomed the expulsion of Jagmeet Singh Brar from the primary membership of the party, saying he was sending “wrong signals” and creating confusion in party ranks.
Calling it an an important step, Amarinder said Brar was getting more and more “defiant” with each passing day, adding the expulsion will convey the right message that nobody is above the party.
“We tried to give him a long rope and overlooked his defiance for a long time, hoping he may mend himself”, the PCC President said in a statement reacting to Brar’s expulsion.
Amarinder said Brar “scripted his own expulsion during the course of last three months by deliberately slighting his own party and praising our political opponents like the Akali Dal and the Aam Aadmi Party”.
Brar was today expelled from Congress in the wake of his consistent statements against the interests of the party.
Brar had turned a harsh critic of Amarinder from the day he was appointed as PCC chief and had even praised AAP’s rally at the Maghi Mela in Muktsar
