Punjab Education Minister Vijay Inder Singla on Friday announced closing of all schools in the state till March 31 as a precautionary measure to prevent spread of coronavirus.
He, however, said exams would be continued to be conducted according to schedule.
So far, one person who had returned from Italy had tested positive for coronavirus in Punjab.Seven Suspected Are Missing
The Health ministry on Friday put the number of coronavirus cases in the country at 75, which includes a 76-year-old man from Kalaburagi in Karnataka who became the country’s first coronavirus fatality.

The three-day Hola Mohalla began with religious fervour at Punjab’s Anandpur Sahib
Thousands of Sikh devotees from India and abroad reached Anandpur Sahib to pay obeisance at the Gurdwara Kesgarh Sahib and took a dip in the holy sarovar.
As per Civil Surgeon Dr H N Sharma , 14 medical centres have been set up to keep tabs on people suffering from cough and cold.
On Saturday, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh had suggested that the festival could be celebrated by paying obeisance in various gurdwaras in small numbers, instead of congregating in large numbers at one place.
It was advisable, Amarinder had said, to avoid taking unnecessary risks, while retaining the traditional spirit of the Hola Mohalla, for which the state government has already made extensive medical arrangements.

Punjab Government India on Monday announced emergency measures, including setting up of Flu Corners in all government and private hospitals, to prepare for any exigency arising from the epidemic.
The Flu Corners will screen all suspected cases of respiratory tract infections at the earliest and ensure that movement of such cases is restricted in order to prevent the spread of the disease.
The Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, approved the Punjab Epidemic Diseases, COVID-19 Reg 2020 to combat the menace of COVID-19 (Corona Virus Diseases 2019)
No private laboratory has been authorized to take or test sample of COVID-19 in the State of Punjab, as per the notification approved by the Cabinet. Further, no person/institution or organization will use any print or media in any form for giving information COVID-19 without prior permission of Department of Health & Family Welfare

The state cabinet on Monday approved the Punjab Lokayukta Bill-2020 for passage in the ongoing session of the legislative assembly.
The Bill seeks to replace the existing Punjab Lokpal Act, 1996 and will cover all public functionaries, including the chief minister.
However, the prosecution of the chief minister, ministers and MLAs would require the approval of the 2/3rd members of the House
“The Lokayukta shall have all powers of a civil court under the Code of Civil Procedure, 1908. It will also provide for prosecution in case of a false complaint,”
The legislation bars a parallel probe into a complaint against any officer/public functionary if an inquiry is being conducted into the matter by the lokayukta
He, however, said the lokayukta will not have the authority to conduct a parallel inquiry of the matter already under investigation by the government.

Members of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) accused the Congress-led government of having “completely failed” in giving jobs to the unemployed youth in the last three years.
“Unemployed youths are seeking replies from Chief Minister Amarinder Singh for not fulfilling promise of giving employment to youth,” claimed SAD leader Parambans Singh Romana ,adding that the government’s ‘Ghar Ghar Rozgar Yojana’ has failed.
Protesting Akalis, led by Bikram Singh Majithia and Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, also brought some unemployed youth along with them who were showing their degrees and claiming that they had not got any jobs yet.
The members of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), led by leader of opposition Harpal Singh Cheema, took on the Congress-led government on the issue of alleged mafias in the state.
They alleged that the sand, liquor and transport mafias still continued in the state under the Congress-led regime.
The members of the opposition shouted slogans against the state government.

Opposition Aam Aadmi Party MLAs in Punjab held a protest outside the state Assembly on Tuesday, seeking from the Congress-led government to fulfil its promises made with youths and government employees.
Members of the AAP, led by leader of opposition and legislator Harpal Singh Cheema, shouted slogans and carried placards against the Amarinder Singh-led government.
“The state government has not fulfilled its promises made with youth for giving them employment. The government’s ‘Ghar Ghar Rozgar Yojana’ scheme has also failed,” Cheema alleged.
He also accused the state government of having failed in not paying arrears and dearness allowance to the state government employees

Punjab State Transport Department executed statewide crackdown against the school buses illegally plying in the state in gross violation of the Motor Vehicle Act and School Vahan Scheme.
Transport Minister Mrs. Razia Sultana said that the Department in close coordination with the district administrations and police has checked in total 7872 vehicles in two days, of which 2680 were challaned besides impounding 430 vehicles for not complying with the requisite parameters of Motor Vehicle Act and School Vahan Scheme
. Recalling the tragic incident of fire in a school bus near Longowal on Saturday, the Transport Minister said that Schools are liable to follow the Vehicle Fitness Norms. She said that District Education Officers DEOs have also been directed to make a inventory of all the vehicles registered with the schools for commuting children and share this list with Transport Department. Mrs. Sultana said that from March onwards the process of physical verification of the school vehicles for issuing fitness certificate would be videographed. She said that orders forsetting up infrastructure in this regard have already been issued.

Punjab’s Governance Reforms Department has created a state level IT Cadre, with 354 posts of IT Officers to execute various projects such as Digital India under the national e-governance program.
The various posts for which the candidates can apply include Senior System Manager (SSM), System Manager (SM), Assistant Manager (AM) and Technical Assistant (TA). Candidates can visit following link https://ctestservices.com/DGR/in order to check the eligibility criteria and apply for the posts on or before February 21, 2020.
As per ,Additional Chief Secretary, Governance Reforms, Vini Mahajan said that the initiative would go a long way in making Punjab a digitally empowered, knowledge-economy instead of the conventional way of doing business. She further said the IT Cadre would provide impetus to implement enterprise architecture in all Government departments and functionaries in order to facilitate interoperability, besides avoiding duplicity of efforts and wastage of time.
The IT Cadre manpower, Vini Mahajan said, will be made available in all the government departments and help them seamlessly share information with each other on a unified platform being developed by the State Government.

On the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, the State Transport Department undertook a 5-day special drive to curb the use video/audio clips glorifying drug and gun culture in buses plying across the state.
Special drive was launched from 7th to 11th February, 2020, during which all the Regional Transport Authorities (RTAs) held meetings with transporters, sensitizing them about the ill-effects of playing obscene/vulgar songs on the psyche of youngsters
During the drive 509 buses were checked, of which 212 were found violating such norms and challaned.
Notably, the Punjab Police recently booked Punjabi singers Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu (Sidhu Moose Wala) and Mankirat Aulakh for propagating violence through a video clip uploaded on social media. Likewise, showing zero tolerance against films instigating youngsters to take up arms and disturb peace and harmony,
Capt. Amarinder also ordered ban on the screening of movie ‘Shooter’ which is based on the life of the notorious gangster Sukha Kahlwan. Subsequently, the Punjab Police also registered a case against producer/promoter KV Singh Dhillon and others for allegedly promoting violence, heinous crimes, gangsterism, drugs extortion, threats and criminal intimidation

Festival will be organised by the Punjab government on March 16 and 17.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the representatives of Punjab Film Producers Association, Mohali and North Zone Film and TV Artists’ Association, Mohali.
Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister Charanjit Singh Channi presided over the meeting.
Dedicated to Punjabi language, the mega event will be organized by the Tourism and Cultural Affairs Department in collaboration with the Punjab Film Producers Association and North Zone Film & TV Artist Association
A documentary film about the Punjabi film industry will be also screened during the event along with the other famous films
Additional Director Tourism and Cultural Affairs Department Lakhmir Singh and representatives of both the associations were also present during the meeting.
