The Punjab Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, on Sunday decided \that Employees of the High Court including High Court Judges, who have adopted Punjab government rules, are provided medical reimbursement by UT Administration, Chandigarh.
Notably, during a meeting in the Punjab and Haryana High Court on January 28, 2019, the Chief Justice and other Judges had sought amendment to the Punjab Services (Medical Attendance) Rule, 1940, for providing facility of air ambulance in case of emergency to sitting and retired Judges and their dependents

Shiromani Akali Dal Saturday asked Congress president Rahul Gandhi to expel Punjab Cabinet minister Navjot Singh Sidhu from the party for calling for dialogue with Pakistan even after the Pulwama terrorist attack in which 40 CRPF jawans died.
Though Sidhu had condemned the “cowardly” attack by a Pakistan-based terror group, he had also called for dialogue to find a “permanent solution” to end the bloodshed.
Sidhu, who had attended the swearing-in ceremony of Imran Khan as Pakistan prime minister last year, had said, “For a handful of people, can you blame the entire nation and can you blame an individual?”
SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia said if the Congress president does not sack Sidhu, it would mean his statement was “made at the direction of Rahul Gandhi”.
The Akali leader said the credibility of Chief Minister Amarinder Singh was also on test.

All police officials equivalent to the rank of Head Constable or above and police officials who are authorized to issue traffic challan are also competent to act against any person who commits any offence under section 4 or section 6 of Cigarette and Other Tobacco Products Supply and Distribution Act-2003 within jurisdiction in the State of Punjab.
A meeting of State level Coordination Committee was held under chairmanship of Additional Chief Secretary Health, Mr. Satish Chanrda at Committee Room of Mini Secretariat. Mr. Satish Chandra stated that the sale of cigarette packet without having 85 percent of pictorial warning about tobacco causes cancer is crime. He directed the Excise department to take strict action against the offenders who were involved in the business of Illegal sale of imported cigarette packets and flavored/scanted tobacco products.
Punjab has already banned the sale and distribution of Flavored/scented chewable tobacco and Sale of E cigarettes in the state.
Dr. Nirlep Kaur, State Programme officer, National Tobacco Control Programme informed that as many as 16,828 challans issued to the violators and Rs.9.4 lakh collected as fine under anti tobacco campaign during April 2018 to December, 2018. She said that total 8733 tobacco users have been availed the services of Tobacco Cessation centers. Free Tobacco cessation counseling and medicines like Bupropion, Nicotine gums and patches are being provided in these centers to the patients who want to quit Tobacco use, said Dr. Kaur.

As per Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh had issued orders to all the deputy commissioners to conduct fresh ‘Girdawri’ (loss assessment) of the affected area, Sarkaria said in a statement issued here.
Compensation to farmers would be released immediately after the receipt of full report.
He said that his govt had fully compensated muskmelon growers of 5,254 acres when their crops were hit by hailstorm

Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has ordered release of Rs 5 crore for providing freight subsidy to the producers for marketing their crop out of Punjab.
Chief Minister has ordered to felicitate export of potato crop, with the help of the freight subsidy which his government would be releasing to the Punjab Agro Industries Corporation.
The Chief Minister, has already asked the departments of school education and jails to purchase potatoes directly from the farmers for use in preparing mid-day meals and Anganvadi meals .
Potatoes are grown on about one lakhs hectares in Punjab with a total production of 25 lakh tones every year. However, the potato farmers are facing problems due to subdued prices of the produce for the last three years.

Capt Led Punjab government on Tuesday doubled the registration fee of documents related to sale deeds.
This decision was taken at a meeting of the state cabinet presided by Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh
The fee for all registrable documents except leases has been increased from Rs 200 to Rs 400, while the fee for registration of power of attorney has been hiked from Rs 2,000 to Rs 4,000,
The Cabinet also passed a proposal of the Local Government Department for release of funds to the tune of Rs 298.75 crore to Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) for infrastructure development under the Urban Environment Improvement Programme (UEIP).
