23 more casualties were reported from the state’s Tarn Taran district,
Till Friday night, the state authorities had reported 39 deaths from three districts. Nineteen of them had taken place in Tarn Taran alone, followed by 11 in Amritsar and nine in Gurdaspur’s Batala.
In Tarn Taran, the death toll has reached 42, Maximum deaths took place in the Sadar and city areas of district.
Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has already ordered a magisterial probe into the tragedy, unfolding since Wednesday night. Till now, police have arrested 10 people in connection with the case.

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has already ordered a magisterial inquiry by Divisional Commissioner Jalandhar into the hooch tragedy.

6355 personnel withdrawnfrom non-core duties to create COVID Reserves and reinforce its field force at police stations and in the Armed Battalions.
While 202 COVID Reserves have been created in police stations across districts, another 20 have been constituted in the Armed Battalions, to improve operational readiness for enforcement of the various safety norms and protocols in place in the state.
Disclosing this during the Covid review Video Conference (VC) meeting chaired by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, the DGP said, post the exercise, an additional 1800 police personnel have been mobilised at the police stations, across the ranks of Constable to Inspector.

Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Saturday directed police to crack down on liquor smuggling in a bid to prevent revenue loss to the cash-strapped state.
The chief minister also ordered immediate action against the DSPs and SHOs under whose jurisdictions liquor smuggling or illegal distillation takes place, said a government release.
Director General of Police Dinkar Gupta issued necessary directives to all commissioners of police and district police chiefs in the state to identify liquor smugglers by May 23.
On May 14, police along with officials of the excise department had raided an illegal distillery-cum-liquor bottling plant at Ghanaur in Patiala.

The 52-year-old Ludhiana assistant commissioner of police, who was undergoing treatment for COVID-19 at a private hospital, died on Saturday.
Yesterday Punjab had lost Gurmail Singh Kanungo
ACP (North) Anil Kohli breathed his last at the SPS hospital, Ludhiana, civil surgeon Rajesh Bagga said. On Friday, the Punjab government had given its go-ahead to the hospital to conduct plasma therapy on the police officer.
The officer had tested positive for coronavirus on April 12. His wife, security guard and a station house officer tested positive on Friday.
The Mohali district administration on Saturday morning sent a fully-recovered coronavirus patient to the hospital to use his plasma for treating ACP Kohli.
Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and Director General of Police Dinkar Gupta condoled the death.

As per Ludhiana Civil Surgeon Rajesh Bagga the test reports of the officer, confirming him to be positive for the virus, came on Sunday night.

. As per DGP Dinkar Gupta , police have registered 34 cases so far, of which 27 were lodged between March 21 and April 6.
The Ludhiana resident had allegedly misled people about the availability of critical medical equipment besides “spreading hatred” against the state government
The DGP had earlier this month constituted a special team headed by a ADGP-ranked officer to monitor all social media platforms to check any instance of fake news or information.
