A court in Jalandhar today granted bail to the former SHO of Mehatpur police station in Shahkot, He was arrested for allegedly assaulting and obstructing an on-duty government official on May 11.
Bail application was filed a few days ago,
Inspector P Bajwa, who had registered an FIR against the Congress candidate Hardev Singh Laddi in an illegal mining case, was arrested for pushing and assaulting an assistant sub-inspector-rank police officer during the frisking process at the court premises (in Jalandhar) thus preventing him from discharging his duty.
Bajwa had gone to the Jalandhar district court to seek security for himself as he had feared for his life.
Bajwa, was the Station House Officer of Mehatpur police station at Shahkot, who was later replaced by the Election Commission.
Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh had described the arbitrary registration of the FIR by the SHO against the Congress candidate as part of a political conspiracy.

A group of inmates at the central jail protested against a search operation launched by the jail authorities
Prisoners in barrack number eight protested against “frequent” searches by the jail authorities
Notably, last year around 150 inmates, including hardened criminals, of the Gurdaspur jail had run amok.
They had made the jailbreak bid by breaking portion of the outer wall of the jail, which was thwarted by the police.
The inmates also broke locks of jail barracks, besides destroying CCTVs, mobile jammers and setting ablaze the quilts and furniture.
Violence had erupted in the Gurdaspur jail after two groups of under trials clashed with each other.

The Punjab State Vigilance Bureau has arrested the district Jail Superintendent of Mansa, Davinder Singh Bajwa, in a case of alleged corruption.
The VB has already nabbed Jail Line Officer Sikander Singh Mann and prisoner Pawan Kumar in December 2017 whereas another accused Deputy Jail Superintendent Gurjeet Singh Brar is still at large
Bajwa in connivance with jail officers Gurjeet Singh Brar, Sikander Singh Mann and prisoner Pawan Kumar allegedly collected money from prisoners to the tune of Rs 10,000 to Rs 25,000 in lieu of changing their barracks/cells, allowing them to use cell phones, intoxicants/drugs and allowing them to meet their relatives without making entry in the jail register and giving relaxation from manual work.
Pawan Kumar was arrested in December last year while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000.
Bureau had recovered a register having details of the money collected from prisoners.

Addressing a protest by General Samaj Manch and shopkeepers on April 24-25, Khosla said the authority to name and rename an intersection in the city lies with the corporation and not with Chief Minister Amarinder Singh.
On April 13, clashes erupted in Phagwara between members of Dalit outfits and Hindu rightwing groups after the Dalit members allegedly put up a board with a picture of B R Ambedkar at Gol Chowk. They also tried to rename the intersection as Samvidhan Chowk.

Punjab Vigilance Bureau nabbed two police officials red handed while accepting bribe of Rs 10,000.
Constable Amritpal Singh and home guard Sukhvir Singh posted at Police Station Phul, Bathinda were nabbed red handed on the complaint of Jagsir Singh of village Dhingar in Bathinda district. As per complainant accused police officials were demanding Rs 12,000 to furnish report for his passport verification.
Munshi Baldev Singh constable was also included as an accused.

Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has called a meeting of all the state director general of police (DGPs) and additional director general of police (ADGPs) tomorrow , Agenda of the meeting is not disclosed.yet
The chief minister’s meeting with the top officials of the police assumes significance in the wake of some serious allegations levelled by a senior IPS officer against two DGPs in the Punjab and Haryana High Court on April 6.
The meeting will be attended by Director General of Police Suresh Arora (chief of police force), DGP (Intelligence) Dinkar Gupta and DGP (HRD) Siddharth Chattopadhyaya.
Chattopadhyaya, in an application before the Punjab and Haryana High Court, had accused Arora and Gupta of trying to drag him in a suicide case of the son of a former president of a century-old charitable-cum-educational body Chief Khalsa Dewan.
Chattopadhyaya had also accused the two DGP rank officers of “targeting” him in order to “disable” him from conducting inquiry to look into the complicity of SSP Moga Raj Jit Singh and a dismissed Inspector in a drug trafficking case.
The DGP (HRD) is leading a special investigation team constituted by the high court to investigate the role of SSP Moga and a dismissed police inspector in the case.

State Vigilance Bureau (VB) has nabed 14 officials red handed accepting bribes in 11 different trap cases during the last month which includes
5 police personnel,
5 revenue [Patwari]officials and
4 belonging to other departments.
As per chief director-cum-ADGP vigilance bureau Punjab B.K. Uppal, bureau had submitted challans of ten vigilance cases in various special courts in February. Apart from this, six vigilance enquires have also been registered to probe into the allegations against public servants.

Bant Singh (all private persons) were convicted and sentenced with 7 years imprisonment and fine of Rs. 6.4 lac and 5.4 lac each by additional sessions judge SAS Nagar.
In another case Baldev Singh, junior assistant in district treasury office Ludhiana was sentenced with 2 months imprisonment and fine of Rs. 25,000 by additional sessions judge Ludhiana.
Surinder Kumar, clerk of MC Patiala was sentenced with 4 year imprisonment and fine of Rs. 1.5 lac by additional sessions judge Patiala. Manjinder Singh clerk of cooperative bank, Mehma Sarja in Bathinda district was sentenced with 7 years imprisonment and fine of Rs. 42,75,000 by additional sessions judge Bathinda.
Likewise Ravinderpal Singh Sidhu chairman Punjab Public Service Commission was sentenced with 7 years imprisonment and fine of Rs. 75 lac by additional sessions judge SAS Nagar.
Vinay Kumar, Clerk of MC Bathinda was sentenced with 4 years imprisonment and fine of Rs. 10,000 by additional sessions judge Bathinda and
Sarwan Singh secretary cooperative societies Moga was sentenced with 4 years imprisonment and fine of Rs. 10,000 by additional sessions judge Moga.
