(Chandigarh) Deptt of Info & Public Relations Gets Two New Officers

Preet Kanwal Singh and Gurmeet Singh Khaira today joined the Department of Information and Public Relations, Punjab as Joint Director and Deputy Director, respectively.

Mr. Preet Kanwal Singh has long working experience in TV and newspaper field. In 2011, he joined the department as Assistant Public Relations Officer and elevated as Information and Public Relations Officer in the year 2015. During this period, he served as District Public Relations Officer at Ropar and SAS Nagar besides working in the Press Section at the headquarter.

Likewise, newly-appointed Deputy Director Mr. Gurmeet Singh Khaira has long experience in journalism. He worked with various TV channels before joining the government sector. Appointed as Information and Public Relations Officer in the year 2011, Mr. Khaira had served as District Public Relation Officer at Barnala and Ropar, including the Press Section and Advertisement Branch of the department.

(Chd,Pb) Punjab Records 44 More COVID-19 Deaths
There was no let-up in the surge in COVID-19 cases in Punjab with the state recording 2,669 fresh infections, maximum this year so far, and 44 more fatalities on Sunday
With the fresh cases, the infection tally climbed to 2,13,110.
The number of active cases has increased from 16,988 on Saturday to 18,257 on Sunday.
Jalandhar reported a maximum of 393 cases,
Ludhiana 330,
Mohali 327,
Hoshiarpur 259 and
Patiala 244
Ten fatalities were reported from Hoshiarpur,
eight from Ludhiana,
seven from Gurdaspur and
six from Jalandhar
Death toll reached 6,324.
There are 23 critical patients who are on ventilator support, while 272 are on oxygen support, according to the bulletin.

Farmers in Punjab on Wednesday burnt copies of the Centre’s three new farm laws at several places on the festival of Lohri as a mark of protest against the legislations.
Bonfires are an important part of this harvest Festival
Farmers also shouted slogans against the BJP-led Centre and slammed the government for not acceding to their demands. They demanded that the new farms laws should be repealed.
Farmers including women under the banner of Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee held a protest at Pandherkalan village in Amritsar.
Farmers also burnt copies of the new farm laws at many places including Hoshiarpur, Sangrur and Kapurthala in the state.
Farmers, who have been camping at the Delhi borders, are demanding a repeal of the farm laws and a legal guarantee to the minimum support price for crops.
The Supreme Court on Tuesday had stayed the implementation of controversial new farm laws till further orders and decided to set up a 4-member committee to resolve the impasse over them between the Centre and farmers’ unions protesting at Delhi borders.

There are 3,429 active COVID-19 cases in the state, as of now
According to a medical bulletin
Ludhiana reported 44 new cases,
Jalandhar 42 cases and
Patiala 28 cases,
among the fresh cases reported in the state
A total of 315 coronavirus patients were discharged after recovering from the infection, taking the number of cured persons to 1,58,219, it said.
Nine critical patients are on ventilator support while 75 are on oxygen support
39,37,741 samples have been collected for testing so far in the state.

There are 5,038 active COVID-19 cases in the state as of now, according to the bulletin.

Ludhiana (74).

Nineteen more fatalities linked to COVID-19 in Punjab pushed the death toll from the disease to 4,187 while 433 new cases raised the infection tally to 1,33,158 on Friday,

Two deaths each were reported from Ferozepur, Barnala, Bathinda, Ludhiana, SBS Nagar and Patiala and
one each from Amritsar, Fatehgarh Sahib, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Pathankot and Rupnagar, the bulletin said.
The places which reported fresh coronavirus cases included
Jalandhar (65),
Ludhiana (65) and
Mohali (49).
Nineteen critical patients are on ventilator support while 95 are on oxygen support, the bulletin said.
A total of 25,82,787 samples have been collected for COVID-19 testing in Punjab, it said.
