The opposition Shiromani Akali Dal on Tuesday held statewide protests against the hike in fuel prices, alleged liquor scam and illegal mining in Punjab.
Leading a protest in Mohali’s Zirakpur, SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal demanded that the Punjab government slash fuel prices by Rs 10 a litre.
Once the Punjab government reduces fuel prices by Rs 10 per litre, we will ask the Centre to do the same, the SAD president said, adding that they have already written to PM Narendra Modi to cut central excise duty on fuel.
Badal said that the state should compensate private schools by submitting their six months’ fee in advance.
Meanwhile, former minister Bikram Singh Majithia in Amritsar said diesel is the costliest in Punjab when compared with neighbouring states.
Majithia demanded a central probe into the embezzlement and wrongful distribution of ration by the Congress government.
He alleged that the ration sent by the Centre for 1.40 crore people was diverted to Congressmen who embezzled it and sold it on the open market.
At Rupnagar, senior leader Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said the SAD was forced to come out and hold dharnas because the Congress-led government were following anti-people policies.
He alleged the sand mafia has been given a free hand by the Congress government due to which Congressmen were enriching themselves at the cost of the state treasury.

Goa government is contemplating installing Global Positioning Systems (GPS) on trucks carrying sand in a bid to curb instances of illegal extractions,
Goa Mines and Geology Director Prasanna Acharya told reporters
.”We are thinking of installing GPS on trucks carrying sand from different places. This will help us to identify the places where sand is sourced from and also will keep a tab on overloading,”
The state government has already identified several sites where sand extraction activity can take place in a controlled manner.
Acharya said the sand extractors have been given an opportunity to submit their documents for the legal compliance.
The director said.”This is the last month. After this month we will crack down on all the illegal sand extraction activities in a major way,”
Last year, the National Green Tribunal’s (NGT) western region bench in Pune had directed authorities to take strict action, including arrest, confiscation of vessels’ licences and use of armed police, against illegal sand miners in Goa.
This order came after the NGT bench of Justice V R Kingaonkar and Ajay A Deshpande heard an application by three North Goa residents.

The committee headed by Saroj, a director in the environment ministry has submitted report on the adverse environmental impact of alleged illegal sand mining in the UP district. This Panel has established The violation of the environmental regulations Act, 1957 .
The Ministry of Environment & Forest vide office order no. Z-11013/170/2013-IA.II(M) dated 6th August, 2013 constituted a three member Committee comprising of [1]Dr. Saroj, Director, M o E F, New Delhi, [2] Shri G.C. Meena, Deputy Collector of Mines, Incharge Dehradun Office of I B M, Dehradun,[3] Dr. K. K. Garg, Director, Regional Office of M o E F, Lucknow to inquire into the adverse environmental impact of the alleged illegal sand mining in Gautam Budh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh.
From the very beginning Govt.of Uttare Pradesh has been denying any illegal sand mining in the area ,Specially by the ruling party’s leaders.
Information is now received through the Sources, that This Panel has refuted the claim of the State govt and established the violation of the environmental regulations Act, 1957 by endorsing the findings of Rampant+ Unscientific and Illegal mining going on at various locations in the Gautam Buddh Nagar district along the Yamuna River in Uttar Pradesh.

दिल्ली में ज्वाइंट सीपी सत्येंद्र गर्ग और डीसीपी प्रेमनाथ को एक ट्रक ड्राइवर ने कुचलने का प्रयास किया |प्राप्त जानकारी के अनुसार ज्वाइंट सीपी सत्येन्द्र गर्ग और डीसीपी ट्रैफिक प्रेमनाथ चेकिंग के लिए खड़े थे। तभी एक तेज़ रफ़्तार ट्रक को चेकिंग के लिए रुकने को कहा गया, लेकिन ट्रक ड्राइवर ने ट्रक नहीं रोका। उलटे अधिकारियों को कुचलने की कोशिश की |मामला दिल्ली−नोएडा को जोड़ने वाले डीएनडी फ्लाईओवर का बताया जा रहा है, | फिलहाल ट्रक ड्राइवर फरार है, जबकि ट्रक के मालिक को हिरासत में ले लिया गया है। ट्रक पर हरियाणा के पंजीकरण प्लेट लगी है |

असफल होने पर ट्रक ड्राइवर खुद को घिरा देखकर मौके से फरार हो गया जबकि ट्रक के मालिक को गिरफ्तार कर लिया गया है।ट्रक पर रेत लदा था | पुलिस को शक है कि इस घटनाक्रम के पीछे हरियाणा के मेवात स्थित रेत माफिया का हाथ हो सकता है।
बताया जा रहा है की संयुक्त आयुक्त गर्ग रात डीएनडी फ्लाईओवर पर रोजाना लगने वाले ट्रैफिक जाम का जायजा लेने आए थे। जिससे वे जाम को कम करने के उपाय खोज सकें। उसी दौरान उन्होंने रेत से भरे एक ट्रक को रोक लिया। ट्रक पर हरियाणा की नंबर प्लेट थी। पुलिसकर्मियों ने दो वाहनों से ट्रक का पीछा किया। पुलिस को अपने पीछे देख चालक ट्रक को किनारे खड़ा कर अपने साथी समेत यमुना किनारे के खेतों में कूद कर फरार हो गया। पुलिस ने ट्रक को जब्त कर उसके मालिक का पता लगा उसे गिरफ्तार कर लिया। साउथ ईस्ट दिल्ली के सन लाइट थाने में सरकारी कर्मी के काम में बाधा पहुंचाने, गलत बर्ताव करने और हत्या के इरादे से ट्रक चढ़ाने की धाराओं के तहत मामला दर्ज कर लिया गया है।
