[Chd,Pb] Mehatpur SHO Gets Bail After Shahkot ByPoll
A court in Jalandhar today granted bail to the former SHO of Mehatpur police station in Shahkot, He was arrested for allegedly assaulting and obstructing an on-duty government official on May 11.
Bail application was filed a few days ago,
Inspector P Bajwa, who had registered an FIR against the Congress candidate Hardev Singh Laddi in an illegal mining case, was arrested for pushing and assaulting an assistant sub-inspector-rank police officer during the frisking process at the court premises (in Jalandhar) thus preventing him from discharging his duty.
Bajwa had gone to the Jalandhar district court to seek security for himself as he had feared for his life.
Bajwa, was the Station House Officer of Mehatpur police station at Shahkot, who was later replaced by the Election Commission.
Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh had described the arbitrary registration of the FIR by the SHO against the Congress candidate as part of a political conspiracy.

The Election Commission (EC) has appointed 227 micro observers for the May 28 Shahkot assembly bypoll in Punjab,
As per reports,
283 presiding officers,
1,133 polling officers,
19 counting micro observers,
17 counting supervisors and
17 assistant counting supervisors have also been deputed in the constituency.
Besides this,
32 class-four employees have also been appointed for the election process
Nearly 4,000 officers and employees and a total of 307 teams have been deputed in the constituency
The Shahkot bypoll was necessitated after the death of SAD MLA Ajit Singh

Punjab’s Shahkot Bypoll-No Nomination on Day One

With the issuance of notification for Shahkot by-poll, the process of filing nomination has also commenced but no one has turned up to filed nominations on day one.
Nomination can be filed till May 10 and the voting would take place on May 28, 2018.
The result would be declared on May 31, 2018
Notification regarding Shahkot Bye election has been issued on may 3rd, 2018. After the notification, Nomination process has been started immediately.
As per Chief Electoral Officer Punjab, Dr. S Karuna Raju, due to Holiday on May 6, 2018 under the Negotiable Instrument Act, 1881, Nomination Papers will not be submitted on that day.
Due to holidays on 12th and 13th May 2018 the withdrawal of candidature cannot be presented on that day. He said that polling will be held on May 28, 2018 and counting of votes and result will be declared on May 31, 2018.
