(Asr,Pb) SGPC Urges UN to Declare 2021 as Int’l Human Rights yr
The SGPC has asked the centre to repeal the recent farm laws, in a set of resolutions that also urges the UN to declare 2021, the 400th birth anniversary year of Guru Tegh Bahadur, as the International Human Rights Year .
The resolutions were moved by Bibi Jagir Kaur, chief of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, an apex gurdwara body, and were passed by its members.
In its resolution on the celebration of the Guru Tegh Bahadur’s birth anniversary, the SGPC also asked the Centre to establish a unique monument of the ninth Guru on the lines of ‘Virasat-e-Khalsa’ at Sri Anandpur Sahib, dedicating it to his 400th birth anniversary.
The resolution also demanded large scale development of all historic sites related to Guru Tegh Bahadur, including his birthplace Gurdwara Guru Ke Mahal in Amritsar and Gurdwara Sis Ganj Sahib, the shrine built in Delhi to commemorate his martyrdom.
The day of martyrdom of the ninth Guru should be celebrated as ‘Religious Tolerance Day’ and the Centre should make the holy ‘baani’ (Gurbani writings) of the ninth Guru available in libraries all over the world by translating them into major languages of the world, the resolution said.
All these works should be done under the supervision of the SGPC, it added.
The resolution also asked the Centre and the state governments to declare the SGPC as the nodal body for the fourth birth centenary celebrations of the ninth Guru, to be held at home and abroad.
Apart from this, the road from Agra, the place of the arrest of the ninth Guru, to his martyrdom site at Delhi, should be declared as ‘Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Marg’ and from Delhi to Sri Anandpur Sahib as ‘Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Sis Marg’, as his holy ‘Sis’ (head) was carried on this route after the martyrdom, the resolution said.
A resolution was also passed for the reopening of the Kartarpur corridor.
The resolution on the farm laws also condemned the death of a youth Navreet Singh during the farmer tractor rally in Delhi on January 26 and demanding an impartial inquiry into the matter.
The resolution also demanded immediate release of youths and farmers apprehended during the tractor rally and withdrawal of criminal cases lodged against them.

Indian Supreme Court Agrees to Hear SGPC for Prohibiting Jokes on Sikhs

[New Delhi]Supreme Court Agrees to Hear SGPC for Prohibiting Jokes on Sikhs
,The Supreme Court today agreed to hear on April 5 the plea of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) along with other petitions seeking ban on circulation of jokes about the Sikh community and said it may act if people are commercially exploiting the jokes.
A bench comprising Chief Justice T S Thakur and Justice U U Lalit said that the fresh plea of the SGPC would be tagged along with other pending matters on the issue and will be heard together on April 5.
During the brief hearing, the bench asked advocate Satinder Singh Gulati, appearing for SGPC, to point out the areas where sub-judicial orders can be passed.
We will certainly look into it if entire community is feeling harassed,” the bench said, adding that it may pass some orders if circulation of such jokes is being commercially exploited.
The counsel for SGPC said, “A stereotype has been created and Sikhs are being discriminated in society because of a particular language and religion.”
Earlier, on a separate plea by Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DSGMC) against jokes on Sikhs, the apex court had observed that there was a need for sensitising the society from the formative stages.
The Supreme Court, which had asked for suggestions from the committee, had said it can stop jokes when they are circulated for a commercial purpose and it would examine the framing of guidelines to stop circulation of racist or communal jokes in the cyber world.

Satnam Singh, a Panj Pyara, told Media
“We have asked the SGPC to terminate the services of the five Jathedars, including Jathedar Akal Takht Giani Gurbachan Singh, immediately as the Sikh community has no faith in them due to their recent anti-Panthic acts that created furore and restlessness in the community,”
When asked that the SGPC, the apex religious body of the Sikhs, had already suspended the Panj Pyaras , he said, “The SGPC has suspended their employees and we are here in the capacity of Panj Pyaras, who always remain independent to take any decision in the larger interest of the Sikh community.”
On Wednesday, the Panj Pyaras had summoned the Jathedars of five Takhts to explain the pardon given to Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahi. This had invited their suspension by the SGPC.
The Panj Pyaras said the Jathedars didn’t turn up today in the Golden Temple complex, prompting them to demand their resignation.
