Neelam Kapur[IIS] Takes over as Director General, Sports Authority of India
Ms. Neelam Kapur has taken over as Director General, Sports Authority of India today.
An Indian Information Service officer of 1982 batch, she has earlier handled important assignments in National Aids Control Organisation (NACO) and headed Directorate of Film Festivals, Directorate of Audio Visual Publicity (DAVP) and Directorate of Field Publicity(DFP).
During her stint in PIB as Principal Director General, Ms. Neelam Kapur was head of media operations for CommonWealth Games held in New Delhi in 2010.

Senior Indian Information Service Officer Neelam Kapur was today appointed director general of the Sports Authority of India (SAI),
Kapoor, a 1982 batch officer of the Indian Information Service (IIS), is at present the Principal Director General of the Directorate of Field Publicity.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved her appointment to the post till her superannuation, i.e. July 31, 2019,
Kapur was the Principal Director General of the Press Information Bureau in the UPA government. As PIB chief, she was in-charge of information officers attached to every central government ministry.

Sports Authority of India Stopped Recruitment Of Coaches since 1993

There Is A Shortage of 200 Sports Instructors/Coaches In 18 Sports For Which 135 Coaches Are Engaged On Contract Basis
Young Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Youth Affairs & Sports Shri Jitendra Singh has said that there is a shortage of 200 (160-Male + 40-Female) coaches in 18 Sports. This Shortage has arisen mainly due to fact that there was no recruitment of coaches in Sports Authority of India (SAI) since 1993. At Present 135 coaches have been engaged On Contract Basis
In a written reply in the Lok Sabha today minister promised in order to address the shortage of coaches in SAI, recruitment of regular coaches in phased manner has been planned and accordingly, initially, process for appointment of 200 coaches as per details provided below, in the disciplines of [1]Archery,[2] Athletics,[3] Badminton,[4] Boxing, [5]Cycling,[6] Fencing,[7] Hockey,[8] Gymnastics, [9]Judo,[10] Kayaking & Canoeing, [11]Rowing, [12]Shooting,[13] Swimming & Diving, [14]Taekwondo, [15]Volleyball,[16] Weightlifting, [17]Wrestling [18]Wushu has already been initiated.
Minister assured that coaches are being recruited keeping in view the requirement projected by various units of SAI.
The Minister said, there are two category of candidates i.e category 3(a) who are NIS diploma holders and category 3(b) who have participated in Asian Games / World Championship & have done Certificate Course. The written exam for category 3(b) candidates was held on 19.5.2013 and the written exam for category 3(a) candidates was held on 30.6.2013. Further, Olympians in the aforesaid disciplines who have applied & found eligible for the post of coach in SAI have been selected through interview and accordingly, 27 Olympians have been sent the offer of appointment. The whole process of selection should be completed by September, 2013.
