Barack Obama To Help Young Men and Boys of Color Facing Odds

President Barack Obama Has Taken a new initiative aiming To Help young men and boys of color.
Obama ensured that young men of color can reach their full potential is the only way “America can reach its full potential He However also made clear that government can’t fix the problem by itself. Helping our young men of color has to be a multifaceted, sustained effort in all areas of our society:
This afternoon, in the East Room of the White House, President Obama delivered remarks at the launch event for My Brother’s Keeper — his new initiative aimed at helping young men and boys of color facing tough odds reach their full potential. The initiative will bring together private philanthropies, businesses, governors, mayors, faith leaders, and nonprofit organizations that are committed to helping them succeed.
President Obama announced that philanthropies and corporate leaders have pledged to invest at least $200 million over the next five years — on top of $150 million that they have already invested — to figure out which programs are the most successful in helping young men of color and replicate them in communities across the country. He also signed a presidential memorandum directing the federal government to determine the best methods to improve the odds for young men of color.
[I]n this effort, government cannot play the only — or even the primary — role. We can help give every child access to quality preschool and help them start learning from an early age, but we can’t replace the power of a parent who’s reading to that child. We can reform our criminal justice system to ensure that it’s not infected with bias, but nothing keeps a young man out of trouble like a father who takes an active role in his son’s life.
In other words, broadening the horizons for our young men and giving them the tools they need to succeed will require a sustained effort from all of us. Parents will have to parent — and turn off the television, and help with homework. Teachers will need to do their part to make sure our kids don’t fall behind and that we’re setting high expectations for those children and not giving up on them. Business leaders will need to create more mentorships and apprenticeships to show more young people what careers are out there. Tech leaders will need to open young eyes to fields like computer science and engineering. Faith leaders will need to help our young men develop the values and ethical framework that is the foundation for a good and productive life.
So we all have a job to do. And we can do it together — black and white, urban and rural, Democrat and Republican.

Civil Aviation Ministry To Invite Suggestions From stakeholders for an Ombudsman

Civil Aviation Ministry To Invite Suggestions From stakeholders for an Ombudsman
Ministry of Civil Aviation (MOCA) has decided to consult stakeholders regarding setting up of an Ombudsman for Civil Aviation Sector in India as an alternative dispute settlement machinery.
The stakeholders are requested to give their comments on the subject by 15th April, 2014.
The Working Group constituted by MoCA earlier in this regard has in their report recommended setting up of an Aviation Ombudsman. The Indian civil aviation sector is one of the fastest growing civil aviation sectors in the world. In sectors where market forces play a lead role in providing services, such as the aviation sector in India, it becomes necessary to provide a window for grievance redressal of passengers and also an effective mechanism for dispute resolution. Considering the potential for future growth, and going by the experience of the service sectors and looking at international best practices, it appears logical to explore the possibility of creating an alternative dispute settlement mechanism for the sector in India. Sectors like banking, insurance, and electricity have already established an ombudsman for dispute settlement in service provision.

Voicing concern over the practise of “paid news” by some publications to mop up revenue, President Pranab Mukherjee today said there was a need for a “self-correcting mechanism” to check such aberrations
The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee inaugurated the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of the Indian Newspaper Society (INS) today (February 27, 2014) in New Delhi.
Speaking on the occasion, the President said our vast, varied and vibrant media is a national asset. The Media as a whole not only keep people informed but also performs a very crucial function of presenting ideas and alternatives in the domain of policy formulation and implementation.

The President said the Platinum Jubilee is an important landmark for members of INS, as indeed it is for all Indians. The Indian Newspaper Society has over the years met the challenges of time even as it has represented the most influential of India’s newspapers and periodicals. Seventy five years ago, the world was a very different place. Our country was yet to take its place in the comity of nations. Millions of Indians were engaged in the struggle for freedom. Newspapers of the time not only survived the shortages that war brought in its wake, but also engaged themselves in the difficult task of informing people of the momentous events of a contentious period in our history. It took resolve, vision and a sense of destiny on the part of the founding fathers to have formed a Society that could take up issues of common interest for its members. INS members have played a vital role in nurturing a free Press which is a critical component of our democracy.

The President said over the years, INS members have informed society and promoted debate on the important questions that confront our nation. Be it the ravages wrought by war or those inflicted by the man-made Bengal Famine, the trials and tribulations of a nation torn asunder by Partition or the building of modern day India, newspapers have played a crucial role in educating Indians and giving expression to the diversity of views in our society, upholding thereby the fundamental right to freedom of speech and expression.
The President said these are changing times and it is not possible for newspapers to be spared from the consequences of the evolution of ideas and the embrace of technology. It is essential for newspapers to be alive to the challenges of technology and to harness responsibly the opportunities that present themselves.
The President said it is distressing to note that some publications have resorted to “Paid News” and other such marketing strategies to drive their revenues. There is need for self-correcting mechanisms to check such aberrations. The temptation to “dumb down” news should also be resisted. The nation faces critical challenges that go well beyond the pressure of ‘Breaking News’ and immediate headlines. While newspapers must continue to be effective raconteurs, they must also be visionary nation builders.
President said the influence, credibility and quality of our media is well recognized. Newspapers must be keepers of the conscience of our country. They have to be active participants in our continuing endeavour to nurture a democratic republic committed to achieving justice and fundamental freedoms for all citizens. Journalists must bring to public notice the array of ills and deprivations that continue to beset large numbers of our people – be it malnourishment, continuance of discriminatory practices against sections of society, particularly dalits, or the burdens and tragic consequences of indebtedness. They must shape and influence public opinion even as they provide objective and balanced coverage of news.

American manufacturers have created 622,000 jobs since early 2010, and President Obama is committed to building on that progress.
Obama Said “If we want to attract more good manufacturing jobs to America,” he said, “we’ve got to make sure we’re on the cutting edge of new manufacturing techniques and technologies.”
Barack obama The President announced that the Department of Transportation is making available $600 million in Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) grants, a tremendously successful program investing in the nation’s infrastructure.
Obama Ensured that Those grants won’t just help repair crumbling roads and bridges — they’ll create more jobs
Lightweight and Modern Metals Manufacturing Innovation Institute Is Headquartered in the Detroit area, the LM3I Institute pairs the world’s leading aluminum, titanium, and high strength steel manufacturers with universities and laboratories pioneering new technology development and research. The institute will focus on expanding the market for and create new consumers of products and systems that utilize new, lightweight, high‑performing metals and alloys by removing technological barriers to their manufacture.
Autoworkers in Detroit are already using advanced, lightweight metals to build new cars that use less gas — just one example of what these materials can do, as President Obama explained. They can help us build lighter armored vehicles for our troops; planes and helicopters that can carry bigger payloads; wind turbines that generate more power at less cost; prosthetic limbs that help people walk again who never thought they could. We believe there’s going to be incredible demand for these metals, both from the military and the private sector, and we want them to be made right here in America. We want our workers to have those jobs.

President Obama also announced a new competition for an Advanced Composites Manufacturing Innovation Institute to improve our ability to manufacture materials that increase the energy efficiency of our cars, planes, windmills, and other products. This new competition is the first of the four the President will launch this year, building on his pledge in this year’s State of the Union and hitting the halfway point on his initial goal of creating 15 Manufacturing Innovation Institutes.
In May 2013, the Administration launched competitions for the three institutes with a Federal commitment of $200 million across five agencies – the Departments of Defense, Energy, Commerce, NASA, and the National Science Foundation, building off the success of a pilot institute headquartered in Youngstown, Ohio. In January 2014, the first of these three institutes was announced, the new Department of Energy-led Next Generation Power Electronics Manufacturing Innovation Institute in Raleigh, N.C.
