US Ambassador, Mr. Richard Verma Called on Union Agriculture Minister And Appreciated India’s Food Security Programme
The newly appointed ,Indian Origin, US Ambassador, Mr. Richard Verma today called on Union Agriculture Minister Shri Radha Mohan Singh.
Agriculture Minister mentioned about the recent visit of Indian Prime Minister to US and US President’s visit to India which have added more vigour to already warm relations enjoyed by two countries.
Issues of mutual cooperation and also cooperation for ensuring World Food Security were discussed. Special emphasis was laid for transforming the structure of the cooperation vis-à-vis the current scenario requiring necessary changes as enshrined in the cooperation agreement signed in 2010 in the agriculture & allied sectors.
It was agreed to give renewed focus on cooperation in agriculture between both countries and initiate immediate steps for renewing the MoU signed in 2010 at the earliest possible with inclusion of new areas in the light of changing requirements and circumstances. It was also decided to amicably resolve sanitary and phytosanitary issues between the two countries for enhanced bilateral trade.
US Ambassador put on record his appreciation of the work done by government of India & USAID for the Agriculture Food Security Programme. Agriculture Minister expressed interest in the technology used by USA for weather forecasting for improving preparedness as well as redressal of problems caused by natural calamities.

Congress President Smt Sonia Gandhi has called party MPs for dinner on May 6, which will provide an opportunity to her as well as Rahul Gandhi to have an interaction with the l party MPs on the political situation, especially the issues like Farmer Land Bill.
The meeting has been convened at a time when V P Rahul Gandhi after his 57-day absence, is in an assertive mode, both inside and outside the Parliament.
Congress has so far not held its parliamentary party meeting and as such the dinner meeting could be the first occasion for a larger interaction of party MPs with Rahul Gandhi, who came back on April 15 from his near two-month long break from politics.
Lok Sabha MPs are meeting the Congress President separately also on May 5.
Congress has
44 MPs in Lok Sabha and
68 in the Rajya Sabha.
The party, led by Rahul Gandhi has recently taken an aggresive posture on farmers’ issues especially the land bill and has been trying to paint the government as “anti farmer”.
The Congress President, who is also the Chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party usually hosts a dinner for MPs twice in a year duing Budget Session+ Winter Session.
