President Donald J. Trump has named Robert Blair of Virginia as the Special Representative for International Telecommunications Policy.
In this capacity, Mr. Blair will lead the strategic prioritization of United States efforts to promote a secure and reliable global communications system.
He will coordinate interagency efforts and serve as a liaison to industry, non-governmental, and international stakeholders to promote the development, deployment, and operation of the next-generation telecommunications infrastructure that will provide the security, data privacy, and stability required for a fully interconnected world.
In this new capacity, Mr. Blair will support the Administration’s 5G efforts led by the Assistant to the President for Economy Policy, Larry Kudlow.
Mr. Blair will continue to serve as Assistant to the President and the Senior Advisor to the Chief of Staff. Before joining the White House, Mr. Blair was the Associate Director for Defense Programs at the Office of Management and Budget.

A bench of Justices S Vaidyanathan and P T Asha, however, declined to stop the rally, saying a peaceful demonstration cannot be prevented in a democratic country as it was the backbone of the democratic set up.
Petitioners R Varaaki and R Krishnamoorthy sought to restrain the DMK from organising the protest rally, contending that such “unlawful” demonstrations would affect the life of public and can turn violent and cause unrest as in similar rallies in various other places, including Delhi and Uttar Pradesh
The DMK and its alliance parties had last week announced that they will take out a mega rally here on December 23 (Monday) against the Citizenship Amendment Act.

A powerful blaze ripped through a three-storey residential-cum-commercial building in outer Delhi’s Kirari area, killing at least nine people including three children,
The incident came days after 43 people were killed in a massive fire in a four-storey building housing illegal manufacturing units in north Delhi’s congested Anaj Mandi area on December 8.
The ground floor of the building housed a godown for clothes while the other three floors were residential in nature.
The deceased have been identified as Ram Chandra Jha (65), Sudariya Devi (58), Sanju Jha (36), and Uday Chaudhary (33) and his wife Muskan (26), their children Anjali (10), Adarsh (seven) and Tulsi (six months).
The three persons who have been rescued by the officials were identified as Pooja (24) and her daughters Aaradhya (three) and Saumya (10).

Afghanistan’s President Ashraf Ghani was on track to win a second term Sunday, after election officials announced he had scored a majority in presidential elections.
According to the Independent Election Commission, Ghani won 50.64 percent of the vote in the September 28 poll, while his rival Abdullah Abdullah scored 39.52 percent.
Candidates have the opportunity to lodge any complaints before a final result is published.

Bahujan Samaj Party president Mayawati on Sunday fired a fresh salvo at Bhim Army chief Chandra Shekhar Aazad and accused him of affecting the party votes.
Mayawati wondered why Aazad, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, was participating in the protests outside Jama Masjid in Delhi instead of doing it in the state.
“This is because assembly election is around the corner here (in Delhi),” Mayawati said in a series of tweets.
The Dalits are of the view that Bhim Army’s Chandrashekhar is playing at the hands of the rival parties, and as a part of conspiracy, when the polls are around the corner, he stages protest and then goes to jail to affect the party’s votes in states where BSP is strong,
The BSP leader appealed to her party workers to be cautious of “such selfish elements, organisations and parties”.
“Such elements are never inducted into the party no matter how efforts they make,” she said.

The death toll in the violence that occurred during protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut two days ago rose to five
The deceased have been identified as Mohsin, Aasif, Zahir, Aalim, all residents of Meerut, and Asif from Delhi
During the protests on Friday, protesters had torched vehicles and pelted stones at police, who used lathi charge and lobbed tear gas shells to disperse mobs.
Thirty-five policemen were also injured in Friday’s violence.
Police have arrested 102 people in connection with the violence and efforts are on to nab the other suspects.
Internet services have been shut down for now and social media is being continuously monitored for inflammatory posts.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said divisional-level ‘chief minister’s office’ will be set up across the state to ensure people need not have to travel to Mumbai for governmental work.
Speaking in the Assembly, Thackeray said these CMOs would be connected to the main one in Mantralaya, and claimed the move was part of his government’s efforts to decentralise power.
He also announced that a Rs 10 per meal scheme for the poor, called ‘Shiv Bhojan’, will be started on a pilot basis at 50 places in the state.
The Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi government will work towards boosting tourism in the state, he said.
In other announcements made on the last of the winter session, Thackeray said all pending irrigation projects in Vidarbha would be completed by June 2023,
paddy growers will be given an additional Rs 200 per quintal, and
‘Krushi Samruddhi’ centres would be set up along the upcoming Mumbai- Nagpur Expressway.

Ex Pradhan of SGPC Avtar Singh Makkar Died at 78

(Chd,Pb)) Former Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee president Avtar Singh Makkar died on Friday after a brief illness.
Makkar died at a private hospital in Gurgaon.He was 78.
He was one of the longest serving presidents of the SGPC, an apex religious body of the Sikhs.
