This Tale of Human Values and Generosity Is Shown in the Odia film, ‘Sala Budha’ (The Stupid Old Man)
The Director of the Odia film, ‘Sala Budha’ (The Stupid Old Man) Sabyasachi Mohapatra has said that instead of looking at elderly people as liability by the younger ones, he feels that they are a great resource for leading the society.
He said this at a media interaction during the 44th International Film Festival of India (IFFI).Panaji
He said that one in every five persons will be over 65 by 2035. It is not just the traditional values but the older generation who could be the light house for prosperity. Sala Budha has a subtle message for the present fast paced uncaring society. He said that the film is a tale of human values and generosity.
Sala Budha, made in Sambalpuri dialect spoken in the western part of Odisha, is one of the 26 feature films selected for the Indian Panorama category in this year’s edition. Mohapatra said that the story is based on a 100 years old story penned by his father, Sahitya Akademy award winner Shri Kapileswar Prasad Mohapatra. It is a black and white film with an 83-year-old protagonist. Sala Budha commemorates the silver jubilee of Mohapatra’s last film in the Sambalpuri dialect, Bhukha, a widely acclaimed film.
Set in a rural backdrop, Sala Budha is a film that ventures into the folklore lives of these simple God believing people. A journey through their faiths, culture, tradition and musical lives where man has only learnt to give and share.
Atala Bihari Panda, the main protagonist of the film said that acting in his first ever film was a challenge for him since he was a dramatist since childhood. The cast and crew of the film said that IFFI is a wide platform for the filmmakers to have cross cultural interaction and share their ideas of filmmaking.

The `noted Polish film director, Agnieszka Holland met the press today at the 44th IFFI.
Speaking about her latest work ‘Burning Bush’ she said the film is not about communism but shows grey sides of people’s choices. The film works as a therapy to the people of the generation of communist era, who suffered oppression and chose not to discuss or speak about it. A student‘s immolation to protest against the Soviet occupation of Czechoslovakia changes the things after 20 years signifying that the impressions of the sacrifice remained burning.
The Goa festival is presenting the six – film retrospective to acquaint the film aficionados with the content and craft of noted Polish film director, Agnieszka Holland. Her films underline decaying ideals, crisis of identities, human despair and a universal struggle to overcome maladies of the mankind. Her work traverses through the social and political landscape of Poland profiled by its most turbulent times – World War II, Solidarity Movement and the Communist regime.
Ms Agnieszka Holland began her career under the guidance of master like Andrzej Wajda and Krzystoff Zanussi. She studied film-making at Prague’s Academy of Performing Arts (FAMU). Her films ‘Angry Harvest’ (1985) and ‘In Darkness’ (2010) earned nominations for the Academy Award for best Foreign Language Film. Her 1991 feature, ‘Europa, Europa’ won a Golden Globe for the Best Foreign Language Film. Her other best known films include ‘To Kill A Priest’ (1988), ‘The Secret Garden’ (1993) and ‘Burning Bush’ (2013).

वयोवृद्ध फिल्म अभिनेता और निर्देशक मनोज कुमार ने सूचना और प्रसारण मंत्री मनीष तिवारी, सूचना प्रसारण मंत्रालय में सचिव बिमल जुल्का और प्रेम चोपड़ा, सुभाष घई और मनोज बाजपेयी जैसी फिल्मी हस्तियों की मौजूदगी में आज 44वें भारत के अंतर्राष्ट्रीय फिल्म समारोह(आईएफएफआई) के भारतीय पेनोरमा खंड का उद्घाटन किया। इस अवसर पर अपने संबोधन में मनोज कुमार ने बीते दिनों की फिल्मों और फिल्म-निर्माण को याद किया।
उन्होंने सुझाव दिया कि मंत्रालय को एक ऐसे पुरस्कार की स्थापना करनी चाहिए जिससे हॉलीवुड तक बराबरी करना चाहे।
उपस्थित गणमान्य व्यक्तियों को संबोधित करते हुए सूचना और प्रसारण मंत्री श्री मनीष तिवारी ने कहा किउनका मंत्रालय अगले वर्ष से राजनीतिक सिनेमा पर एक विशेष खंड शुरू करना चाहता है। श्री तिवारी ने कहा कि भारत में फिल्म उद्योग ने स्वयं को फायदेमंद स्थिति तक पहुंचा दिया है। उन्होंने कहा कि आज सिर्फ भारतीय सिनेमा की यात्रा के ऐतिहासिक दस्तावेज की ही जरूरत नहीं है बल्कि ऐसी गाथा की जरूरत है जो राजस्व कमाने का अपने किस्म का ही मॉडल हो। भारतीय सिनेमा ने सिने प्रेमियों के दिलोदिमाग पर बहुत महत्वपूर्ण छाप छोड़ी है।
इस खंड में 26फीचर फिल्में और 16 गैर-फीचर फिल्में हैं। प्रख्यात फिल्म-निर्माता और संपादक बी लेनिन की अध्यक्षता वाली फीचर फिल्मों की ज्यूरी ने के आर मनोज की ‘कन्याका टॉकीज़’ को पेनोरमा की आरंभिक फिल्म के रूप में चुना हैं। अन्य फिल्मों में सिद्धार्थ शिवा की ‘101 चोडीएंगल’, अंजन दास की ‘अजाना बतास’ और नागराज मंजुल की ‘फैनड्राई’ शामिल हैं। गैर-फीचर फिल्मों की ज्यूरी की अध्यक्षता प्रतिष्ठित निर्देशक राजा सेन ने की। इस श्रेणी में प्रांतिक नारायण बासु की ‘मकारा’, बाबू कामब्राथ की ‘बिहाइंड द मिस्ट’ और राजा शबीर खान की ‘शेफर्डस ऑफ पैराडाइज’ शामिल हैं। इस खंड की आरंभिक फिल्म कमल स्वरूप की ‘रंगभूमि’ होगी।

केंद्रीय सूचना और प्रसारण मंत्री मनीष तिवारी ने आज ‘भारतीय सिनेमा का सफरनामा’ पुस्तक का विमोचन किया। इस अवसर पर फिल्म निर्देशक राकेश ओमप्रकाश मेहरा, अभिनेत्री दिव्या दत्ता और अभिनेता पवन मल्होत्रा भी मौजूद थे। यह पुस्तक भारतीय सिनेमा की यात्रा के बारे में भारतीय फिल्म- हस्तियों द्वारा लिखे गए लेखों का संकलन है। इस पुस्तक का प्रकाशन सूचना और प्रसारण मंत्रालय के प्रकाशन प्रभाग द्वारा किया गया है।
इस पुस्तक में 9 साक्षात्कार और 22 लेख है।
महेश भट्ट ने सिनेमा की प्रवृत्तियों पर अपने विचार लिखे हैं, तो गुलजार ने राजनीतिक सिनेमा पर अपनी टिप्पणियों से योगदान दिया है। जाने-माने फिल्म निर्माता मुज्जफ़र अली, एन. चंद्रा, रमेश सिप्पी, दीप्ति नवल, ख़य्याम और रेमी डिसूजा़ ने इस पुस्तक के लिए अपने साक्षात्कार दिए हैं। डॉ. चंद्र प्रकाश द्विवेदी, ए. के. बीर, तिगमांशु धुलिया, प्रसून जोशी, कैलाश खेर और पंकज शुक्ल ने पौराणिक सिनेमा, सिनेमैटोग्राफी, नया सिनेमा, संगीत और गीत तथा सिनेमा के तकनीकी पहलू जैसे विभिन्न विषयों पर लेख लिखे हैं।
क्षेत्रीय सिनेमा भाग में 8 लेख और साक्षात्कार हैं। इस भाग के प्रारंभ में प्रसिद्ध असमिया फिल्म निर्माता जाह्नू बरूआ, पंजाबी फिल्म निर्माता गुरवीर ग्रेवाल, भोजपुरी अभिनेता दिनेशलाल यादव ‘निरहुवा’, बंगाली निर्देशक कौशिक गांगुली और प्रोफेसर अभिजीत कुंडु ने भी इस भाग के लिए अपना योगदान दिया है। प्रसिद्ध पत्रकार के. वी. कुरमानाथ, एन. विद्याशंकर और मनमोहन चड्डा ने विभिन्न भारतीय भाषाओं में क्षेत्रीय सिनेमा के महत्वपूर्ण मुद्दों पर लेख लिखे हैं। पुस्तक के अंतिम भाग में जाने-माने पत्रकारों और लेखकों के महत्वपूर्ण विषयों पर लेख हैं। अजय ब्रह्मात्मज, प्रदीप सरदाना, मीनाक्षी शर्मा, अजय कुमार, अविनाश वाचस्पति, इकबाल रिज़वी, देब प्रकाश चौधरी और कई अन्य ने भारतीय सिनेमा की यात्रा से संबंधित विभिन्न विषयों पर लेख लिखे हैं। इन विषयों में- 21वीं शताब्दी का सिनेमा, राष्ट्रीय फिल्म पुरस्कार, फिल्म प्रचार, पोस्टर, स्टूडियो, महिला फिल्म निर्माता, थियेटर और सिनेमा तथा भारतीय सिनेमा में हास्य जैसे अनेक विषय शामिल हैं।

सूचना एंव प्रसारण मंत्री श्री मनीष तिवारी ने कहा कि फिल्म महोत्सव के आयोजकों की प्रतिबद्धता दोगुनी हो गई है क्योंकि भारतीय अंतरराष्ट्रीय फिल्म महोत्सव 2013 के संस्करण के मौके पर भारतीय सिनेमा सौ साल पूरे करके नई शताब्दी की शुरूआत कर रहा है। गोआ में 44वें अंतरराष्ट्रीय फिल्मोत्सव के उद्घाटन से पहले मीडियाकर्मियों को संबोधित करते हुए उन्होंने कहा कि महोत्सव सिनेमा का जोश और मूल वस्तु का समारोह है। उन्होंने संघ-राज्य भागीदारी में एक अनूठी परियोजना की बेतुकी बात बताया। उन्होंने कहा कि इसने एक दूसरे के साथ मिल-जुल कार्य करके सफलतापूर्वक एक आदर्श का सृजन किया है।
वार्षिक समारोह का सिंहावलोकन प्रस्तुत करते हुए मंत्री ने कहा कि यहां पर हम विभिन्न विचार-धाराओं को एक मंच प्रदान करते है। उन्होंने बताया कि इस सांस्कृतिक समारोह में पर्दे पर विभिन्न लोकाचार और परिवेश को प्रदर्शित किया जाता है। महोत्सव के मुख्य अंश को रेखांकित करते हुए मंत्री ने कहा कि फिल्म उद्योग अपनी विभिन्नता में भव्यहै। उन्होंने बताया कि इस वर्ष महोत्सव पूर्वोत्त्र सिनेमा पर केन्द्रित है। इसलिए मेघालय के मुख्यमंत्री श्री मुकुल संगमा से इसका उद्घाटन करने का आग्रह किया गया है।

इस अवसर पर सूचना एंव प्रसारण सचिव श्री बिमल जुल्का ने मीडिया को सूचित किया कि विदेशी फिल्मों के 10 पैकेज है जबकि भारतीय फिल्म के 13 पैकेज है। उन्होंने कहा कि
