Capt’s Committee to Counter Akali’s On Sikh History Syllabus

[Chd,Pb] Capt Announces Committee to Review Sikh History Syllabus
Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh today announced the constitution of a six-member oversight committee to examine the recommendations of the 2014 panel that reviewed the history syllabus and oversee all history books in the future.
The move comes in the wake of the Shiromani Akali Dal alleging that a major portion of Sikh and Punjab history had been removed from the Class 12 curriculum.
The Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) and the Congress government maintain that the curriculum was only “re-aligned” to match the NCERT syllabus.
He said the decision to review the syllabus and print books in alignment with the NCERT syllabus was taken during the SAD-BJP rule in 2014, and that the controversy on the issue was “politically motivated”.
In fact, there were no history books earlier and what SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal was citing was merely a guide, he said at a press conference.
The chief minister asserted that the syllabus relating to the Sikh Gurus had not been deleted, and the entire history of the Gurus, starting from Baba Banda Bahadur, had been incorporated in a chronological order in the syllabi for classes XI and XII.
The committee will be headed by eminent historian
Prof Kirpal Singh and will include former vice chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University
Prof J S Grewal, former pro-vice vhancellor of GNDU
Prof. Prithipal Singh Kapur, emeritus Prof. of History at Panjab University
Indu Banga, and two eminent historians to be nominated by the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee,

Capt. Amarinder Warns SAD Govt. For Heritage “KUA”University

[Amritsar,Punjab]Capt. Amarinder Warns SAD Govt. For Amritsar’sHeritage Khalsa University
Congress Chief Captain Amarinder Singh today claimed Majithia family is trying to “usurp and dilute” the heritage status of the Khalsa College here by converting it into a private university and asked the state government not to use its “brute majority” to take steps favouring the move.If They Do It Through Aact Then Congress government will repeal the act in 2017 and restore the heritage status of the college,”
Notably, the Khalsa College Governing Council (KCGC) had announced to set up Khalsa University Amritsar (KUA) to provide “quality education” to students.
The Governing council, led by KCGC President Satyajit Singh Majithia, has come under fire after it proposed to set up a Khalsa University Amritsar.
“Khalsa College is the part of our great heritage and history and not the private property of the Majithias to be usurped”, he alleged.
Recalling his family’s and his personal association with the Khalsa College, Amritsar, the former Punjab Chief Minister said, while his grandfather Maharaja Bhupinder Singh and father Maharaja Yadvinder Singh were its chancellors from 1927 to 1952, he was himself its Chancellor between 1972 and 1978.
“It is not me or my family alone, every Punjabi has a sentimental association with Khalsa College, which is one of the exceptional symbols of our great and glorious heritage and the Majithias for their petty interests are trying to usurp it which will not be allowed at any cost,”

Congress Capt Amarinder Demands white Paper on Prosper State’s Economy

[Chandigarh,Punjab]Congress Capt Amarinder Singh Demands white Paper on Prosper State;s Economy
Capt Amrinder Singh today demanded a white paper on the state’s economy and blamed the SAD-BJP government for allegedly putting the state into “financial mess.”
Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Amarinder Singh in a statement demanded that Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal bring a white paper on the state of economy in Punjab”The state debt has already crossed 1.25 lakh crore and by the time the Akalis are thrown out, the debt would already have crossed Rs 1.4 lakh crore,”
“So much so the state has to take loans to service its debts”, he said and alleged that the Akalis have mortgaged the jails and old age homes to get further loans for survival.”And if Sukhbir still believes that the state of economy is not bad and this was being deliberately done to malign the government’s image he should better bring out a white paper and bring out the truth before the public”,
Amarinder also targeted SAD’s ally BJP in the state and alleged, “Bharatiya Janata Party cannot wriggle out of the mess it has created in Punjab in alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal by simply walking out at the eleventh hour after having enjoyed power for last nine years.” Reacting to the reports that some state BJP leaders want to part ways with the Akalis,
the PCC president said, although it was their internal affair whether to continue with the alliance or not, one thing the party cannot escape is the onus and responsibility for being partners in the “sins of omission and commission” of this government during last nine years.

Ousted’Bajwa’Advises His Successor’Amarinder’To Unite to Win 2017 Punjab Polls

[Chandigarh,Punjab]Ousted’Bajwa’Advises His Successor’Amarinder’To Unite to Win 2017 Punjab Polls
Noting that his removal as Punjab Congress chief “will not be a big price” if the party wins the 2017 Assembly election, Partap Singh Bajwa today asked his successor Amarinder Singh to “work hard” and “fight as one” to win the high-stake polls.
Bajwa, who was last week replaced by former chief minister Singh, described his removal as “temporary setback” and said his “sacrifice will not be a big price if party wins polls in 2017”.
“We will have to fight as one as there is going to be a tough challenge (in assembly polls). We need to do hard work and fight as one to achieve our goal as people now have an alternative because Aam Aadmi Party is there. They have government in Delhi and they have four MPs in Punjab,” Bajwa said
He said “Last time (during 2012 assembly polls), there was no other option with the people,”
Listing out priorities for the new leadership, Bajwa said that the first priority for the party is to save the state.
“Punjab needs to be saved first which is the first priority because Punjab cannot go in for a third political disaster,”
Congress had faced two successive defeats in Punjab in 2007 and 2012 assembly polls when Singh was state party president.
Bajwa said the party workers who had faced “traumatic” experience during the SAD-BJP rule in the state should also be protected from the “oppression” of the ruling party.
