(New Delhi) DGCA Directs Airlines to Stop Taking Bookings
Private Indian airlines were taking bookings on Sunday on select flights from May 4.
Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri had advised airlines on Saturday night to open bookings only after the government takes a decision on resumption of passenger flights.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) issued a circular on Sunday evening, stating: “All airlines are hereby directed to refrain from booking tickets… Further, the airlines may note that they shall be given sufficient notice and time for restarting operations.”
The first phase of the lockdown was from March 25 to April 14. The second phase began on April 15 and would end on May 3.

The Centre has directed 84 airports across the country to install body scanners by March 2020, replacing existing door frame metal detectors and hand-held scanners besides pat-down searches of passengers to detect metallic objects, according to an official document.
“Walk-through metal detectors and hand-held metal detectors cannot detect non-metallic weapons and explosives. Body scanners detect both metallic and non-metallic items concealed on the body,” states the circular sent by Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) to all airports in April this year.
Of around 105 operational airports in the country at present, 28 are classified as hypersensitive, including those in big cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and in conflict areas like Jammu and Kashmir and the Northeast while 56 airports are categorized as sensitive.
These 28 hypersensitive and 56 sensitive airports would have to install body scanners by March 2020 while the remaining airports can install it by March 2021, as per the circular.

On Monday also, the Gurugram-headquartered airline had pulled out 32 flights from its network.
On the other hand, there was no indication of any probe by the aviation regulator into the cancellation of such large number of flights by the airline since last Saturday.
IndiGo has cancelled 30 flights for Tuesday due to the on-going pilots issue. Most of the flights have been cancelled from Kolkata, Hyderabad and Chennai
While eight flights are not being operated from Kolkata,
another five flights are cancelled from Hyderabad and four each from Bangalore and Chennai
It is alleged that IndiGo was forcing passengers to either buy last minute fares or offering them alternate flights with one-stop connectivity with a long transit time.
In a statement on Sunday, the airline had blamed on weather for disruption in operations across its network.

India’s aviation watchdog Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is likely to issue an additional advisory soon for Airbus planes fitted with Pratt & Whitney engines,
The recurring glitches on the Pratt & Whitney-powered Airbus planes have forced the Wadia group-run budget carrier GoAir to ground as many as seven A320 Neos.
GoAir has 49 planes in the fleet and 30 of them are Airbus A320 Neos.
During February and March last year, 14 planes — 11 of IndiGo and three of GoAir – were grounded by the aviation regulator DGCA following a series of mid-air engine shutdowns.
Apart from these two carriers, Air India and Vistara also operate A320 Neos but they are powered by CFM engines. P&W engine woes had forced both IndiGo (which operates 57 of such planes)and the larger rival GoAir to ground some of the A320 Neos on earlier occasions also.

Civil aviation regulator, DGCA, today told the Delhi High Court that airlines in the country are not charging fares that are unlawful, discriminatory or exorbitant and the ticket prices change according to market forces.
The plea by consumer rights activist Bejon K Misra has alleged that the authorities, including DGCA, were acting as “silent spectators” to the “arbitrary” fixing of fares by the airlines.
Misra has alleged that due to the cancellation of flights, IndiGo passengers had to book tickets at the last minute on other airlines at “exorbitant prices”.
