Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, who chaired a review meeting over the issue, directed police and the Enforcement Directorate (Mining) to take strict action against those found engaged in mining operations at night.
The CM, however, ordered that there should be no hindrance to smooth movement of sand and gravel during the night in view of the construction activity going on in the state.
The availability of the material at affordable prices should also be ensured, he said, directing the Principal Secretary (Mining) to coordinate with authorised contractors to bring down prices of sand and gravel.

The opposition Shiromani Akali Dal on Tuesday held statewide protests against the hike in fuel prices, alleged liquor scam and illegal mining in Punjab.
Leading a protest in Mohali’s Zirakpur, SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal demanded that the Punjab government slash fuel prices by Rs 10 a litre.
Once the Punjab government reduces fuel prices by Rs 10 per litre, we will ask the Centre to do the same, the SAD president said, adding that they have already written to PM Narendra Modi to cut central excise duty on fuel.
Badal said that the state should compensate private schools by submitting their six months’ fee in advance.
Meanwhile, former minister Bikram Singh Majithia in Amritsar said diesel is the costliest in Punjab when compared with neighbouring states.
Majithia demanded a central probe into the embezzlement and wrongful distribution of ration by the Congress government.
He alleged that the ration sent by the Centre for 1.40 crore people was diverted to Congressmen who embezzled it and sold it on the open market.
At Rupnagar, senior leader Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said the SAD was forced to come out and hold dharnas because the Congress-led government were following anti-people policies.
He alleged the sand mafia has been given a free hand by the Congress government due to which Congressmen were enriching themselves at the cost of the state treasury.

As Per Baddi Supdt of Rohit Malpani , Gurdeep Singh of Punjab’s Mohali district and Hardev Singh of Solan’s Kotla village were caught at around 1 am on Wednesday
Several vehicles used in illegal mining were also seized.
A dozer and a tipper truck were seized from Balad river banks near Suncity in Baddi at around 1 am, while several tractors were seized in the morning

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today sacked state Mining Minister Gayatri Prajapati over allegations of corruption, days after the High Court rejected the SP government’s plea to withdraw an order for a CBI probe into alleged illegal mining in the state.
A letter for the same has been sent to Raj Bhavan
It is alleged that Yadav was promoting illegal mining.
The opposition, however, alleged that the sacking of the minister was just an eyewash to hide the corruption in mining sector.
Taking a grim view of illegal mining in Uttar Pradesh, the Allahabad High Court on July 28 directed the CBI to investigate the matter across the state, including the role of government officials in facilitating the same, and submit a report within six weeks.
The HC on September 9 rejected an application by the state government for withdrawal of its order.
Prajapati began as Minister of State for Irrigation in February 2013 and was moved to the lucrative berth of mining, directly under Yadav who handled that portfolio.
In July 2013, Yadav elevated Prajapati to MoS (Independent Charge) and in January 2014, he was made a Cabinet Minister

The committee headed by Saroj, a director in the environment ministry has submitted report on the adverse environmental impact of alleged illegal sand mining in the UP district. This Panel has established The violation of the environmental regulations Act, 1957 .
The Ministry of Environment & Forest vide office order no. Z-11013/170/2013-IA.II(M) dated 6th August, 2013 constituted a three member Committee comprising of [1]Dr. Saroj, Director, M o E F, New Delhi, [2] Shri G.C. Meena, Deputy Collector of Mines, Incharge Dehradun Office of I B M, Dehradun,[3] Dr. K. K. Garg, Director, Regional Office of M o E F, Lucknow to inquire into the adverse environmental impact of the alleged illegal sand mining in Gautam Budh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh.
From the very beginning Govt.of Uttare Pradesh has been denying any illegal sand mining in the area ,Specially by the ruling party’s leaders.
Information is now received through the Sources, that This Panel has refuted the claim of the State govt and established the violation of the environmental regulations Act, 1957 by endorsing the findings of Rampant+ Unscientific and Illegal mining going on at various locations in the Gautam Buddh Nagar district along the Yamuna River in Uttar Pradesh.
It may be added that The 2010-batch IAS officer was suspended by the Uttar Pradesh government in the wake of the crackdown, sparking nation-wide outrage.Now She In Being Harassed By the leaders.
28-year-old SDM (sadar)of GB Nagar, Durga Shakti Nagpal who led the crackdown on sand mining mafia in her district, was suspended on July 27 ostensibly for ordering demolition of a mosque’s wall, which was under construction, allegedly without following the due process. Illegal Sand Mining ,apart from the environment & ecology , has serious political and administrative repercussions. A Committee to Enquire into the Alleged illegal sand Mining in Gautam Budh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh has been Constituted .The ,time framed,Findings of which may reduce the Adverse impacts on environment & ecology +Political+Administration .
During the last few days, various media reports have been highlighting the menace of alleged illegal sand mining in Gautam Budh Nagar,of Uttar Pradesh. This question has been raised on the floors of Parliament also.

It is well known fact that Illegal mining has serious environmental and ecological repercussions. Pursuant to orders of the Hon’ble Supreme Court date 27.02.2012 in SLP ( C) Nos. 19628-19629 of 2009 titled Deepak Kumar etc. Vs State of Haryana & Ors., the handling of prior environment clearance cases of mining of minor minerals, including sand, of lease area upto 5 ha was delegated by this Ministry to the concerned State Environment Impact Assessment Authorities (SEIAAs) vide OM No.L­ 11011/47/2011-lA.ll(M) dated 18.05.2012.
The cases of mining of minor minerals, involving lease area between 5 ha to 50 ha were already being handled by the SEIAAs even before the issuance of this O.M. MoEF deals with the cases of environment clearance in respect of projects of mining of minor minerals with lease area equal to or above 50 ha. No sand mining from any mining lease area EQUAL TO OR ABOVE 50 HA. No sand mining from any mining lease area can take place without obtaining prior environment clearance.
With a view to enquiring into the allegations of illegal sand mining widely reported in the electronic as well as the print media, with visuals of heavy machinery being used in illegal sand mining in Gautam Budh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, in order to ascertain the factual position and with a view to suggesting further course of action in the matter, Ministry of Environment & Forests has constituted the following committee under the chairpersonship of Dr. Saroj, Director, MoEF:-

3. Shri K. K. Garg, Director, Regional Office of MoEF, LucknowThe secretarial assistance to the Committee will be provided by the Regional Office of MoEF, Lucknow. The Committee will submit its report to the Ministry by 9.8.2013.
