[New Delhi] Airport Authority Of India To Have More Air Traffic Controllers
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) will create additional posts of air traffic control officers.
Minister of State for Civil Aviation Mahesh Sharma today said in Rajya Sabha that there is no acute shortage of air traffic control officers (ATCOs).
He said “In order to meet the current and future requirements i.e. to cope with the growing requirement of air space and air traffic management, the AAI board has approved creation of additional posts of ATCOs in various grades,”
Through US-based Washington Consultancy Group, AAI had conducted a study on long-term manpower requirement for air traffic management.
“As per this report, the requirement of ATCOs would be 3,599 up to the year 2020. The report of WCG was reviewed by AAI and replaced it with ATM Staffing Policy & Guidelines in November 2015 which is implemented in a phased manner and inducted 169 ATCOs in 2015,”
To a separate query, the minister said that in the last three years, the government has given ‘in-principle’ approval for setting up of a greenfield international airport at Dholera in Gujarat.Besides, the government has granted ‘site clearance’ for “greenfield airports at Bhiwadi (Alwar) in Rajasthan and at three locations in Andhra Pradesh, namely Bhogapuram (Vijayanagaram), Dagadarthi (Nellore) and Oravakallu (Kurnool)”,
The minister also said construction work at the Kannur airport is at an advanced stage of completion and that the trial landing was completed on February 29.
According to Sharma, the government extends its full support to AAI in terms of grant-in-aid for execution of airport projects on need basis, apart from pursuing state governments for providing adequate land and facilitating mandatory approvals for construction of projects.

[New Delhi] Spicejet Airline Booked Highest Seat Occupancy at 92.1%
As per the DGCA data, released today, low-cost SpiceJet reported the highest seat occupancy in its aircraft at 92.1 per cent followed by rival IndiGo, which logged 88.5 per cent seat factor during December 2014.
Continuing on the growth trajectory, domestic passenger traffic increased by 20.34 per cent in December last year over the same period in 2014 on account of the on-going tourists season, with Indian carriers flying a total of 7.70 million customers during the period.
The domestic carriers had ferried 6.44 million passengers in December 2014.
However, IndiGo, continued its leadership in terms of number of passengers flown, transporting a total 2.74 million passengers.
Full service carrier Jet Airways and Air India during this period carried 1.40 million and 1.28 million passengers respectively, according to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation data.
The DGCA attributes the high passenger carriage by the domestic airlines due to the ongoing tourist season in December.
“The passenger load factor in the month of December 2015 has increased compared to previous month primarily due to the ongoing tourist season,” the DGCA said

Air India’s 1st Right of Refusal on New Routes Should be Relooked:Assocham
Lobbying for domestic private airlines, industry body Assocham today urged the government to reconsider the ‘first right of refusal’ granted to national carrier Air India on new routes, to enable corporate-run carriers expand their international network.
“Air India’s First Right of Refusal on new routes should be relooked with the objective of private airlines getting fair opportunities to expand their international routes,” Assocham said in a paper jointly prepared with Yes Bank.
The paper also called for tweaking or abolishing all together the current norms for international operations by domestic airlines on the grounds that it would “equip Indian commercial airline operators with long term financial security and international quality standards”.
With a sharp fall in fuel prices, the Indian aviation sector can take off to a phase of sustainable growth if restrictive rules like 5/20 and First Right of Refusal to Air India in regard to international routes are dispensed with, the Assocham paper has suggested.
Under the current norms, popularly known as 5/20, domestic airlines can fly on international routes only when they have completed five years of operations in the country and have a 20-aircraft fleet.
Revisiting this rule will provide incentive for new players to enter the market due to advent of opportunity for enhancing revenues, yields and ultimately, profits, it said in the study paper titled ‘Indian Civil Aviation – At the Cusp of Taking Off’. .

प्राप्त जानकारी के अनुसार |पश्चिम बंगाल में बीते दिन [शुक्रवार] को बागडोगरा से उड़ान भरने वाला इंडिगो[ ६ई ४७२] का एक विमान एयर इंडिया[आई सी [८७९] के उतर रहे विमान के काफी नजदीक पहुंच गया एक बार तो हवा में एक्सीडेंट होने की आशंका जताई जाने लगी लेकिन सम्बंधित अधिकारीयों की तत्काल सूझ बूझ से २५० यात्रियों के जीवन पर आया खतरा टल गया| एयर इंडिया के विमान में १२० जबकि इंडिगो के प्लेन में १३० यात्री सवार थे|

दिल्ली से भोपाल के रूट पर ८० सवारियों के साथ निकले जेट एयरवेज की फ्लाइट9W-2654 के दायें इंजन में बीते दिनों आग लग गई| स्टाफ की तत्परता से दुर्घटना को टाला गया और यात्रियों को दूसरे विमान से भेजा गया | इसके अलावा मुंबई से ब्रुसेल्स की उड़ान पर निकले प्लेन के पायलट सो गया जबकि सहायक पायलट “टेबलेट” पर व्यस्त रही जिसके फलस्वरूप जहाज खतरनाक नीचाई तकआ गया |अंकारा कंट्रोल रूम से अलार्म बजाये जाने पर पायलट की नींद टूटी और जहाज को उचाई पर ले जाकर दुर्घटना को टाला गया | यह समाचार आग कि तरह विदेशी मीडिया में भी छाया हुआ है| डी जी सी ऐ ने दोनों मामलों की जांच का एलान किया है|

नागरिक उड्डयन मंत्री श्री अशोक गजपति राजू ने चेन्नई अंतर्राष्ट्रीय हवाई अड्डे के कामकाज की समीक्षा करने के लिए नागरिक उड्डयन सचिव और भारतीय विमान पत्तन प्राधिकरण (एएआई) के अध्यक्ष और वरिष्ठ अधिकारियों के साथ एक बैठक की। यह बैठक चेन्नई हवाई अड्डे के रखरखाव में कमी और सुविधाओं में कमी से संबंधित शिकायतें मिलने के बाद बुलाई गई थी।
