(नयी दिल्ली)पीएम मोदी ने 1947 में देश के बंटवारे को सबसे बड़ी त्रासदियों में से एक करार दिया ।प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने  भारत की आजादी की 75वीं वर्षगांठ पर कहा कि यह दर्द आज भी हिंदुस्तानियों के सीने को छलनी करता है।भारत की आजादी की 75वीं सालगिरह पर लाल किले की प्राचीर से अपने संबोधन में प्रधानमंत्री ने कहा कि अब से 14 अगस्त को विभाजन विभीषिका स्मृति दिवस के रूप में याद किया जाएगा।
उन्होंने कहा, ‘‘हम आजादी का जश्न मनाते हैं लेकिन बंटवारे का दर्द आज भी हिंदुस्तान के सीने को छलनी करता है। यह पिछली शताब्दी की सबसे बड़ी त्रासदी में से एक है।’’ 
उन्होंने कहा, ‘‘कल ही देश ने भावुक निर्णय लिया है। अब से 14 अगस्त को विभाजन विभीषिका स्मृति दिवस के रूप में याद किया जाएगा।’’ 
प्रधानमंत्री ने इस अवसर पर देश की आजादी में अपने प्राणों की आहूति देने वाले सभी स्वतंत्रता सेनानियों को याद किया और उन्हें श्रद्धांजलि अर्पित की।
इस कड़ी में उन्होंने नेताजी सुभाष चंद्र बोस, भगत सिंह, चंद्रशेखर आजाद, रामप्रसाद बिस्मिल और अशफाक उल्ला खान जैसे महान क्रांतिकारियों के अलावा झांसी की रानी लक्ष्मीबाई सहित अन्य सेनानियों को याद किया।
उन्होंने कहा, ‘‘भारत के पहले प्रधानमंत्री नेहरू जी हों, देश को एकजुट राष्ट्र में बदलने वाले सरदार पटेल हों या भारत को भविष्य का रास्ता दिखाने वाले बाबासाहेब अम्बेडकर, देश ऐसे हर व्यक्तित्व को याद कर रहा है, देश इन सबका ऋणी है।’’

“One can always see his passion towards empowering the poor and downtrodden,” the prime minister wrote on Twitter.
Kovind was born on this day in 1945 near Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh.

The Mayor of New York, Mr. Bill de Blasio, called on the Prime Minister. During the discussion, he briefed the Prime Minister on public housing projects New York City.

The Prime Minister also referred to the goal of “Housing for all” in India, and the possibility of sharing best practices for affordable housing.
The issue of terrorism came up for discussion, with the Prime Minister saying India has been fighting against terror for long. Mr. Blasio gave a brief overview of steps taken by New York City to tackle terrorism post 9/11.
Prof. Harold Varmus, the Director, US National Cancer Institute, called on the Prime Minister. Issues related to public health+ sanitation+ malnutrition + immunization were discussed.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to address the UN General Assembly on Saturday.

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, met Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit at Fortaleza on Tuesday.
The Prime Minister conveyed his sincere appreciation and admiration for President Putin’s decisive leadership in deepening and expanding the India-Russia special and privileged strategic partnership.
The Prime Minister expressed deep appreciation for Russia’s friendship and unstinting bilateral and international support for India’s economic development and security since the early days of India’s independence. The Prime Minister reaffirmed that relations with Russia will continue to enjoy the priority that they always had in India’s foreign policy and that he looks forward to working with President Putin to further deepen and broad-base the strategic partnership including in the areas of defence, nuclear energy, space, energy, trade and investment, people-to-people contacts and addressing regional and global challenges.
The two leaders looked forward to their Annual Summit in Delhi in December 2014 as an opportunity to outline a bold vision and roadmap for their relationship in the years ahead.
Prime Minister recalled the warmth and goodwill he had experienced on his earlier visits to Russia and looked forward to visiting Russia in 2015.
