The COVID-19 death toll in Punjab rose to 5,364 with 15 more deaths on Saturday, while 244 fresh cases took the infection count to 1,67,012 in the state
There are 3,429 active COVID-19 cases in the state, as of now
According to a medical bulletin
Ludhiana reported 44 new cases,
Jalandhar 42 cases and
Patiala 28 cases,
among the fresh cases reported in the state
A total of 315 coronavirus patients were discharged after recovering from the infection, taking the number of cured persons to 1,58,219, it said.
Nine critical patients are on ventilator support while 75 are on oxygen support
39,37,741 samples have been collected for testing so far in the state.

Eight deaths were reported in Amritsar,
six each in Gurdaspur and Ludhiana,
four each in Ferozepur, Hoshiarpur and Sangrur and
three each in Fatehgarh Sahib and Patiala,
Two deaths each were reported from Fazilka, Jalandhar, Moga and SBS Nagar and one each from Bathinda, Faridkot, Kapurthala and Mohali
Among the places which reported new cases included
Amritsar (134),
Mohali (131),
Jalandhar (128),
Ludhiana (111) and
Patiala (91).

Punjab reported the sharpest single-day spike of 1,946 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, pushing the COVID-19 tally to 63,473 in the state.
The previous record of new cases reported in a day was 1,746 on August 27.
Fifty-four more COVID-19 deaths took the toll to 1,862 in the state, according to a government medical bulletin.
Thirteen deaths were reported from Ludhiana, eight from Patiala, six from Kapurthala, five from Amritsar, three each from Faridkot, Moga, Jalandhar and Bathinda, two from Pathankot, Muktsar and Hoshiarpur and one each from Barnala, Ferozepur, Gurdaspur and Tarn Taran, it said.
Among places which reported new cases included Jalandhar (261), Pathankot (205), Gurdaspur (186), Bathinda (168), Ludhiana (161), Mohali (154), Patiala (150), Hoshiarpur (135), Amritsar (133) and Faridkot (88).
Punjab has been seeing a surge in the number of coronavirus cases and adding over 1,000 coronavirus cases every day for a few days.
There are 16,156 active Covid-19 cases in the state, as of now, according to the bulletin.
Seventy one critical patients are on ventilator support while 571 are on oxygen support
A total of 11,93,260 samples have been collected for testing so far in the state

Some members of the Muslim community on Wednesday launched an indefinite sit-in against the amended citizenship law and the proposed National Register of Citizens (NRC ) here.
The indefinite dharna began at Dana Mandi here near Jalandhar bypass on the lines of the ongoing Shaheen Bagh protest in Delhi.
“This is another Shaheen Bagh in Ludhiana. Our protest will continue until the Modi government withdraws this Act (CAA),” said Maulana Abul-Ur-Rehman Sani, Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid.
Shaheen Bagh in Delhi has become the epicentre of the protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) as women with young children have been staging a sin-in there for nearly two months.
The sit-in by members of the community was to be organised near the statue of B R Ambedkar but was shifted to Dana Mandi here.

An MoU to this effect was signed today between Rahul Bhandari, MD, PSIEC, and Pankaj Munjal, Chairman, Hero Cycles Ltd. in the presence of the Punjab Chief Minister, Captain Amarinder Singh, and Industry Minister, Sunder Sham Arora. Several MPs and MLAs were also present along with top government officials on the occasion.
There was a demand from the Industry, CII, PHD Chamber of Commerce, and other representative bodies of investors for setting up a New Industrial Park around Ludhiana, with modern infrastructure facilities. Accordingly, the state government approved the project for setting up of the Hi-Tech Cycle Valley through PSIEC over 380 acres of land at Village Dhanansu, located very close to the industrial city of Ludhiana.
The Chief Minister said that the project shall attract around Rs. 400 crore investment by Hero Cycles Ltd. and its suppliers/ ancillaries, and generate close to 1000 direct employment opportunities. He said the industrial park will have a production capacity of 4 million bicycles per annum and the project shall be implemented within 36 months.

A statue Bust of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi was vandalised in Ludhiana on Tuesday by two youths, who Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh claimed, owed allegiance to the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).
CM asked SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal to apologise for the act of his party workers.
The miscreants sprayed red and black paint on the statue at the Salem Tabri area in Ludhiana,
They carried out the act in full public glare and blamed Rajiv Gandhi for the 1984 anti-Sikh riots
As per local Police miscreants demanded that statues of Rajiv Gandhi across the country be removed and Bharat Ratna conferred on him be withdrawn.
The statue was later cleaned by some Local Congress leaders
SAD has stepped up attack on the Gandhi family after the conviction of Sajjan Kumar.
On Saturday, the party had demanded that a special sitting of the Punjab Assembly be convened to pass a resolution for revocation of Rajiv Gandhi’s Bharat Ratna.

केंद्र के हाउसिंग एंड अर्बन अफेयर के मंत्रालय की रिपोर्ट के अनुसार एक लाख से अधिक की आबादी वाले ४८५ शहरों में स्वच्छ सर्वेक्षण कराया गया था|इनमे से पंजाब के १७ शहरों को शामिल किया गया|दुर्भाग्य से इनमे से एक शहर भी टॉप १०० में स्थान प्राप्त नहीं कर सका|

जबकि जालंधर को २१५ पर संतोष करना पढ़ा है |बेशक ये रैंकिंग पिछले वर्ष की तुलना में बढ़ी है लेकिन स्मार्ट सिटी प्रोजेक्ट में आने के बावजूद टॉप १०० में भी स्थान ना पाने के कारण प्रदेश में कांग्रेस और केंद्र में भाजपा की सरकार की कार्यप्राणाली पर प्रश्न चिन्ह लगाने स्वाभाविक ही है

भा जी ! वाकई बुजुर्गों का कहना है के कभी यहाँ से जीवन दायनी मॉडल टाउन ८२ फु टी माईनर नहर निकला करती थी लेकिन नहरों को कब्ज़ा मुक्त करवाने के बजाय ये नई सरकार शायद लुधियाना को स्मार्ट सिटी बनाने के लिए ऐसे ही हथकंडे अपनाएगी |

Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihoods Mission — in Punjab, Haryana and Union Territory of Chandigarh.
Talking to reporters, Puri said urbanisation posed a formidable challenge.
,Punjab proposed to provide 4.6 lakh new house water connections under AMRUT – Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation.
On Smart Cities Mission, it was informed that detailed project report (DPR) of all three cities
Amritsar,
Jalandhar and
Ludhiana in Punjab were under preparation.
“Thus 11 projects worth Rs 3,385 crore in Amritsar,
19 projects worth Rs 1,899 crore in Jalandhar and
19 projects worth Rs 1,898 crore are at the DPR stage,”

जयपुर जिले के चौमू थाना इलाके के एक नागरिक ने लुधियाना [पंजाब] के दो लोगों के खिलाफ विदेश भेजने का झांसा देकर तीन लाख रपये हड़पने का मामला दर्ज करवाया है।
चौमू थाना पुलिस के अनुसार चेतन कुमार ने लुधियाना के रहने वाले
हरप्रीत और
मनीष कुमार
पर विदेश भेजने के नाम पर तीन लाख रपये हड़पने का आरोप लगाया है।
