Punjab State Transport Department executed statewide crackdown against the school buses illegally plying in the state in gross violation of the Motor Vehicle Act and School Vahan Scheme.
Transport Minister Mrs. Razia Sultana said that the Department in close coordination with the district administrations and police has checked in total 7872 vehicles in two days, of which 2680 were challaned besides impounding 430 vehicles for not complying with the requisite parameters of Motor Vehicle Act and School Vahan Scheme
. Recalling the tragic incident of fire in a school bus near Longowal on Saturday, the Transport Minister said that Schools are liable to follow the Vehicle Fitness Norms. She said that District Education Officers DEOs have also been directed to make a inventory of all the vehicles registered with the schools for commuting children and share this list with Transport Department. Mrs. Sultana said that from March onwards the process of physical verification of the school vehicles for issuing fitness certificate would be videographed. She said that orders forsetting up infrastructure in this regard have already been issued.

The Punjab Water Supply and Sanitation Minister Razia Sultana on Monday said this project will be started from Muktsar on the festival of Maghi, which falls on Tuesday.
The minister said in the first phase, a hi-tech machine, ‘Bandicoot’, designed by Kerala’s Genrobotics will start human-free sewerage cleaning in Sri Muktsar Sahib.
“It will save employees from dangers of grave problems caused by manual cleaning of sewerage and exposure to toxic gases,” she said in a release.
These carbon-bodied robots are water-proof and equipped with sensors to ascertain toxic gases inside sewer pipes, she said.

Vehicle Tracking System be set up in all the PRTC, PUNBUS and Punjab Roadways buses. Likewise all the bus stands situated in the state would have access to free wifi & internet facility.
It was disclosed by Mrs. Razia Sultana, Transport Minister in a press communiqué after presiding over a meeting with General Managers of PRTC and Punjab Roadways held at Punjab Bhawan, Chandigarh. She said that Vehicle Tracking System would give real time position of any bus plying in the state She said that the success of Vehicle Tracking System has been tested in 350 PRTC buses and now this system would be installed in all the Punjab Roadways, PUNBUS and PRTC buses.
The Transport Minister said that Regional Transport Authority would conduct surprise checking to check the schedule timing of bus routes. She said that action against the violators of the scheduled timing of bus routes would be taken at the spot. She said that General Manager would assist the RTAs and provide every information during this surprise checking.
The Minister said that the Punjab Government would soon extend free Wifi & internet facility to the citizen at each bus stand of the state.

His wife Razia Sultana is a minister in Amarinder Singh cabinet.
IPS officer Mohmmad Mustafa Friday asked the Punjab government to relieve him as the chief of the anti-drug Special Task Force as he is “senior” to newly appointed police chief Dinkar Gupta.
Mustafa, a 1985-batch officer, said he has requested the Chief Minister’s office to give me the charge of the state Human Rights Commission.
Notably, the Director General of Police (STF) reports to the DGP Punjab.
Mustafa will approach the Supreme Court for being “ignored” in the panel while alleging that there was a conspiracy to keep his name out.
UPSC meeting was held in Delhi to discuss the panels sent by the state government on February 4, Punjab state was represented by Punjab Chief Secretary Karan Avtar Singh and DGP Suresh Arora.
On Thursday, Gupta was appointed as the Director General of the Punjab Police.after superseding five officers who are
Smant Goel (who is on central deputation),
DGP (STF) Mohd Mustafa,
DGP (Law & Order) Hardeep Dhillon,
DGP (Internal Vigilance Cell) Jasminder Singh and
DGP (PSPCL) S Chattopadhayaya.
Dhillon and Jasminder are going to retire this year.
Gupta was chosen as the new DGP from the panel of three officers sent by the Union Public Service Commission.
The other two officers were DGP (Admin) M K Tiwari and DGP (Provisioning) V K Bhawra.
