The Union Minister for Science & Technology, Health & Family Welfare, and Earth Sciences e-inaugurated the curtain raiser programme of CSIR-IMMT, Bhuwaneswar for the 6th India International Science Festival 2020 (IISF-2020) today. The Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Minister of Steel. Shri Dharmendra Pradhan was the Chief Guest at the event.
Delivering the inaugural address, Dr HarshaVardhan said, “The proposed theme of IISF-2020 – Science for Self-Reliant India and Global Welfare is very relevant in the present context when the nation is looking towards science and technology for spearheading growth and for implementing the vision of our Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi Ji of an “Atmanirbhar Bharat” playing a significant role in the global economy. Many great scientific discoveries and technological advancements in various fields have showcased the excellence of our efforts in science and technology to the world”.

On the occasion, Dr. Harsh Vardhan also virtually inaugurated the Coal to Syngas Plant and Centre of Excellence for Strategic and Infrastructure Sectors; Centre of Excellence for Coal Gasification and also dedicated the Innovative technology for import substitution of coking coal to the nation.
The Minister said, “Not only in India, our scientists and engineers have provided scientific expertise internationally too for the construction of Kaladan Multimodal Transit Project (Mizoram-Myanmar), Salma Dam (Afghanistan), Tala and Punatsangchu I & II hydel projects (Bhutan)”.
Dr. Harsh Vardhan also unveiled the Logo of the Platinum Jubilee Celebrations of the Institute. Five agreements between the Institute and various other entities were signed in the presence of the Minister.

India had foiled an attempt by consumer goods giant Colgate-Palmolive to patent a mouthwash formula containing herb extract by citing ancient texts that show it was traditionally used in ancient medicinal practices. Traditional Knowledge Digital Library of Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR-TKDL) had submitted proof in the form of references from ancient books, which said the herb and its extracts of Myristica Fragrans were used for oral diseases in Indian systems of medicine. In addition, other third party observations also made submissions against the claims.
Meanwhile, various institutions of CSIR filed applications for 14 patents were in India and for 22 abroad. One (1) patents were granted in India and 14 abroad.

इसमे १० से १७ आयु वर्ग के बालक और बालिका भाग ले सकते है| पूर्व में इसी प्रोग्राम क़े सफल आयोजन के लिए मेरठ के जिला विद्यालय निरीक्षक और जिला बेसिक शिक्षा अधिकारी को राज्य स्तर पर सम्मानित किया जा चुका है. इस वर्ष से जिले के डीएम को भी सम्मानित करने की पहल शुरू हुई है.

वैज्ञानिक एवं औद्योगिक अनुसंधान परिषद (सीएसआईआर) के महानिदेशक डा. समीर कुमार ब्रह्मचारी ने आज वर्ष 2013 के लिए प्रतिष्ठित शांति स्वरूप भटनागर पुरस्कारों की घोषणा की। पुरस्कारों की घोषणा नई दिल्ली में आयोजित सीएसआईआर के 71 वें स्थापना दिवस समारोह के दौरान की गयी। वर्ष 2013 के लिए आठ (08) वैज्ञानिकों को विज्ञान और प्रौद्योगिकी के लिए शांति स्वरूप भटनागर पुरस्कार के लिए चुना गया है।

शांति स्वरूप भटनागर पुरस्कार भारत में किए गए उनके अनुसंधान और विकास कार्यों के लिए युवा वैज्ञानिकों और इंजीनियरों की सबसे प्रतिष्ठित राष्ट्रीय पहचान है। पुरस्कार की स्थापना प्रख्यात वैज्ञानिक, संस्थापक निदेशक और सीएसआईआर के प्रमुख वास्तुकार स्वर्गीय डॉ. (सर) शांति स्वरूप भटनागर के सम्मान में 1957 में किया गया था। 450 से अधिक वैज्ञानिकों और प्रौद्योगिकीविदों को अब तक उनके अनुसंधान एवं विकास योगदान के लिए विज्ञान के विभिन्न विषयों में इस पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया है। पुरस्कार में एक प्रशस्ति पत्र, नकद पुरस्कार, एक पट्टिका और सेवानिवृत्ति तक एक मानदेय दिया जाता है|
