Centre Allotted Rs.98.6 Crores For Prevention Of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse In 28 States And 6 U Ts
The government has provided Rs. 98.6 crore to 28 states and 6 UTs under the scheme “Assistance for Prevention of Alcoholism and Substance (Drug) Abuse” from 2010-11 till February 2014. Eight north-eastern states have received Rs. 16.17 crore during the period whereas the rest of India received Rs. 82,43 crore.
Under the scheme, financial assistance is provided to Non-Governmental Organizations(NGOs), Panchayati Raj Institutions, Urban Local Bodies, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangthan etc. for running Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts (IRCAs) to provide composite integrated services for the rehabilitation of the addicts on the basis of recommendation of the State/UT Governments.Such assistance helps in providing services such as awareness generation, counseling, treatment etc. of drug dependent persons
