Senior Congress leader and former Union minister Manish Tewari has asked the Punjabis to make a careful choice between “chaos and anarchy” and “order and good governance” in the February 4 Assembly elections.
While interacting with businessmen, lawyers, traders and chartered accountants of the city The senior Congress leader said, Punjab can ill afford another spell of anarchy followed by a decade of lawlessness and disorder by the Akali-BJP alliance.
Claiming that the five years of Amarinder Singh’s regime in Punjab touched all the sections of the society,
“Punjab needs Amarinder now more than it needed him any other time as the state needs to be retrieved and redeemed from chaos, anarchy, lawlessness, economic, financial and agrarian crisis”, he said, while adding, “only Amarinder can retrieve and redeem it”
As per report prepared by ADR,101 Candidates are facing criminal charges
14 candidates of Congress,
12 of AAP,
10 of SAD and
2 of BJP and
20 out of 304 Independents were facing criminal charges,
The report also said that a whopping 688 out of total 1,145 contestants, have declared their educational qualification between 5th standard and 12th standard while 41 candidates are illiterate.

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi today met Radha Soami sect chief Gurinder Singh Dhillon at his residence at Beas, a move which has evoked interest as the party prepares to take on Punjab’s ruling SAD-BJP combine in the 2017 assembly poll.
Rahul spent nearly two hours with Dhillon. During his visit to Beas, no party leader accompanied Rahul. SPG personnel accompanying the leader were also asked to stay out of the dera premises,
Rahul had come to Amritsar yesterday to see a documentary on drug addicts, ‘Faded Glory’. He reached Beas, spent the night there.and in the morning he attended a one-hour ‘satsang’ (religious discourse). Later, he went to the residence of Dhillon and held discussion on various issues over breakfast.
The meeting assumes significance in view of the assembly poll in Punjab where Congress is eyeing to wrest power from the SAD-BJP combine after 10 years.
.Senior BJP leader L K Advani had also visited Beas in 2014 and attended the morning discourse of Sect head Gurinder Singh Dhillon.
