Names of 225 Sikhs, chronicled in the government’s blacklist for their alleged involvement in subversive or anti-India activities, have been removed over the last four years.
The pruning has been done in a list of 298 Sikhs which was prepared at different levels by security agencies since 1980s.
Those Indian-origin people, who were allegedly involved in subversive or anti-India activities abroad, were included in the blacklist and such people were barred from visiting India.
As Per Home Ministry official “We have pruned the list in the last four years and recently removed names of 36 Sikhs settled abroad,”
Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi after he assumed office in 2014 to direct the Home Ministry to evolve a mechanism for a regular review of all such cases.
Badal had said he wanted removal of the names of persons from the list against whom no cases or legal proceedings were pending.
Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal too had written a letter to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to review the blacklist of Sikhs and delete names of the persons who were not wanted in any criminal case in the state.

Many of the asylum-seekers were booked in cases in India and have not been allowed to visit India in the past decades

Punjab’s Dy CM Sukhbir Calls AAP a Tomfoolery

[Chandigarh,Punjab] Punjab’s Dy CM Sukhbir Calls AAP a Tomfoolery
Sukhbir Singh Badal Accuses AAP of “Befooling” People of Punjab
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Badal today accused AAP of “befooling” people of Punjab on SYL canal issue in order to secure votes in the wake of 2017 assembly polls.
Sukhbir said in a statement .”Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) led Delhi government is indulging in deceitful tactics by stating it wanted water for Delhi but leaving it to Punjab and Haryana to fight over the SYL canal,”
He said filing of affidavits in the Supreme Court was nothing but a “political ploy to befool” Punjabis and secure their votes in the 2017 assembly elections.
The Delhi government has in its revised affidavit filed in the Supreme Court said it is only concerned about continuing to get its share of river waters as per the 1976 notification.
“This notification led to the construction of the SYL canal. So effectively the Delhi government wants water to flow through this canal even though it has present water supply arrangement with Haryana”,
Asking Kejriwal to end this “double game”, Badal said “you cannot keep playing cat and mouse forever. Punjabis just want you to answer a simple question. Are you in favour of construction of the SYL canal or not? This answer will determine whether you are in favour of the Punjabi farmer or against him”,
Sukbir said Kejriwal first claimed that he was against construction of the SYL canal when on a visit to Sultanpur Lodhi in Punjab.
Kejriwal, however, on reaching Delhi took a U turn and said everyone should get water, meaning his native State Haryana should get water from the SYL canal,
The SAD president said if the AAP government was really sincere towards Punjabi farmers it should pass a resolution in its assembly supporting the stand taken by Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on the SYL canal.
