BSP chief Mayawati Friday urged all legislators to rise above party politics and raise issues of public interest and focus on the “dismal” state of law and order.This demand is in the wider public interest, she said in a tweet.
“Though the issue of development is largely missing from the agenda of the government, but do raise your voice on oppression of women and killings of members of Dalit, Muslim and Brahmin samaj and other atrocities, meaning the dismal state of law and order in UP. This is the demand of time,”
The three-day monsoon session of the legislature began under strict COVID-19 protocols Thursday. Members and staff of the Assembly and Council wore masks and maintained social distancing on the first day.

Samajwadi Party and Congress members staged a walkout from the Uttar Pradesh Assembly on Monday over the issue of baton charge on women protestors in Aligarh.
Soon after the House met at 11 am, Leader of Opposition Ram Govind Chowdhury of the Samajwadi Party raised the issue and alleged that women were lathi-charged and tear gas shells were fired during anti-CAA protests in Aligarh on Sunday.
In his reply, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna accused him of wasting time of the House by raising the same issue every time.
Unsatisfied, SP members staged a walkout from the House.
Congress legislative party leader Aradhana Mishra Mona too joined the SP and walked out, alleging that the government was committing atrocities on women protestors.
Clashes broke out between anti-CAA protesters and police in the old city area of Aligarh on Sunday following incidents of arson and stone pelting.

The Uttar Pradesh Assembly was adjourned sine die on Thursday amid uproar by opposition members on law and order in the state and other issues.
Amid din, the second supplementary budget was passed by voice vote without any discussion.
As soon as the House met for the day, opposition members created noisy scenes over various issues, leading to the adjournment of the proceedings for a brief period.
When the House reassembled, opposition members resumed their protest.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna said since the opposition members were not interested in the peaceful conduct of the proceedings, it would be better to have the House adjourned sine die.
Speaker Hridaya Narain Dixit then took the mood of the House and with a majority of the members supporting the resolution, adjourned the proceedings sine die.
The UP Assembly was otherwise likely to be adjourned sine die on Friday.
Before making the announcement, he put to voice vote the second supplementary budget, which was passed unanimously without any discussion.
The Adityanath government had on Tuesday tabled the second supplementary demands to the tune of Rs 4,210.85 crore in the state Assembly, with a thrust on ambitious expressway projects.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that the five central jails in the state have 10,735 inmates against their total capacity of 8,049.
Replying to a question from BSP member Sukhdev Rajbhar, CM said the 62 district jails can accommodate 50,650 inmates, but they are holding 84,944 prisoners.
The inmates are given facilities as per the jail manual, Adityanath said in a written reply.
According to UP prisons department website, the inmates are entitled to facilities of food, medical assistance, clothes, bed, clean and hygienic environment.

Pandemonium today prevailed in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly as opposition parties sought to corner the Akhilesh Yadav government over several issues, prompting the Speaker to order the eviction of the protesting legislators.
Legislators from BSP, BJP, RLD, Apna Dal jumped into the Well of the House with placards and banners even before the Assembly proceedings started.
[1]BSP members donning caps with slogans “Daliton par atyachar nahi chalega” (atrocities on Dalits will not be tolerated) and banners highlighting the issue of cane dues protested against the government.
[2]BJP members raised the issues of law and order, electricity, women security etc.
[3]RLD members Sticked to the issue of non-payment of cane dues while
[4]Peace Party member Ayub was seen with the banner “Adityanath ke goondon ko giraftar karo” (arrest goons of Adityanath).
Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey tried to pacify the members to return to their seats for Question Hour, but his attempt went in vain.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mohd Azam Khan said strict action should be taken against the legislators, whom he accused of committing contempt of the House by jumping into the Well even before the start of the proceedings and arrival of the Speaker.
“They are trying to communalise things and vitiate the atmosphere of the state. BSP men are doing all this for cheap media publicity.
He said ,Instead of pointing banners to us, they are showing it to media, which showed their intentions,”
On his demand, a resolution was passed with voice vote to remove the agitating legislators from the House following which the Speaker asked the marshals to evict them.
BJP, Congress and BSP MLAs jostled with other legislators and continued to raise slogans while marshals tried to remove them. While some resisted the marshals, others voluntarily went outside the House.
Some BSP MLAs were seen using force while resisting the marshals.
The agitated MLAs after being removed from the House sat on dharna in the gallery outside.
Later, Speaker continued Question Hour but as opposition leaders were not present he started agenda of Zero hour.
