US Congress Passes Bill Against Chinese Crackdown over Hong Kong

(Washington) US Congress Passes Bill Against Chinese Crackdown over Hong Kong
The U.S. legislation would impose sanctions on groups that undermine Hong Kong’s autonomy, including police units that have cracked down on Hong Kong protesters, as well as Chinese Communist Party officials responsible for imposing the new security law. The bill also imposes sanctions on banks that do business with entities found to violate the law.
The Senate gave final legislative approval to the measure on Thursday, a day after the House approved it. It now goes to the White House.
In a television interview on Thursday, Vice President Mike Pence called the new Hong Kong security law a betrayal of the international agreement China signed.
Sen. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., a co-sponsor of the Senate bill, said passage of the “Hong Kong Autonomy Act” makes it clear that the United States “will not stand by as China seeks to crush freedom, human rights and democracy in Hong Kong”.
Sen. Pat Toomey, R-Pa., the bill’s other lead sponsor, urged Trump to sign it into law. “With our bill, the CCP will learn there are ramifications for repressing Hong Kongers’ freedom,” Toomey said, referring to the Chinese Communist Party.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi also praised the sanctions bill as an urgently needed response to the cowardly Chinese government’s passage of its so-called national security law.”
Lawmakers from both parties have urged the Trump administration to take strong action in response to the crackdown by China against the former British territory, which was granted partial sovereignty under a treaty that took effect in 1997.

Obama,Holidaying In Hawaii,Will Deliver His Report Card To Congress on Jan12

[Washington DC] Obama,Holidaying In Hawaii,Will Address His Last State of Union on Jan 12
President Obama to Address his Last State of the Union on Jan 12.At Present He Is Spending His Holidays In Hawaii.
US President Barack Obama would deliver his last State of the Union Address to the Congress on January 12.
Obama, who is currently on his year-end vacation in Hawaii, announced this in an email to his supporters yesterday.
“I’ve got 12 months left to squeeze every ounce of change I can while I’m still in office. And that’s what I intend to do,” he wrote.
Sent through his ‘Obama for America’ organisation, Obama, the 44th US President, indicated that he would use the occasion to highlight the achievements of his presidency to a joint session of the US Congress.
“We’ve done a lot of remarkable things together this year, and it’s because of committed citizens like you that this country keeps moving forward. You keep proving the cynics wrong,” he said.
“When we took office, we were losing nearly 750,000 jobs a month. But over the last 69 months, our businesses have created more than 13.7 million new jobs — the longest streak of private-sector job growth on record — and the unemployment rate is down to 5 per cent,” Obama, who was first elected President in 2008 and then in 2012, wrote.
For the first time more than 90 per cent of Americans are now covered, and more than 17 million people have gained health insurance under Obamacare. Insurance companies can’t discriminate against people with pre-existing conditions, or charge women more just for being women, he said.
Affordable healthcare reform is one of the key achievements of his presidency, which comes to end in January 2017.
Stating that America is now leading by example on climate change, Obama said, “The Clean Power Plan will cut carbon pollution from power plants by 32 per cent by 2030. We’ve cut our oil imports by more than half, while doubling clean energy production from wind, solar, and geothermal — creating steady sources of good jobs that can’t be outsourced.”
“Even as our economy is growing, America has cut our carbon pollution overall more than any other advanced nation on Earth. And we just helped secure the most ambitious global climate agreement in history,” said the US President.
“These are your accomplishments, and that’s what I want to celebrate with you on January 12. As long as you’re out there organising, on whatever issue you’re organising around, America has a bright future ahead,” Obama said.

President Obama Asked Congress to Pass a Budget To Honor Working People:Labor Day

[Washington DC]President Obama Asked Congress to Pass a Budget To Honor Working People:Labor Day US ,To Honor Working People, Observes Labor Day On 1st Monday Of September Which Is National Holiday
In his Weekend Address President Barack Obama Slashed Opposition Congress
President, Recognizing Importance of Labor Movement ,said
“The eight-hour workday+40-hour workweek+weekends+ Overtime+ minimum wage+Safer workplaces+Health insurance+Social Security+Medicare+Retirement plans.
All These gains were fought for and won by the labor movement – folks who were working not just for a bigger paycheck for themselves, but for more security and prosperity for the folks working next to them as well. That’s how we built the great American middle class”
President,Showing his progress card ,said
“On Friday, we found out that the economy created another 173,000 jobs in August. Over the past five and a half years, our businesses have created 13.1 million new jobs in total – the longest streak of job creation on record. The unemployment rate dropped to 5.1%, the lowest it’s been in seven years. The American auto industry is on track to sell more cars and trucks this year than it has in more than a decade. Sixteen million Americans have gained the security of health insurance. Seventeen states and about 30 cities and counties have raised the minimum wage. And we’ve proposed extending overtime protections to as many as five million Americans. All of that is progress”.
Criticizing Uncooperative Congress President Obama Talked On Budget also.
He said This month, Congress has an opportunity to continue that progress. As always, the deadline for Congress to pass a budget is the end of September. Every year. This is not new. And if they don’t, they’ll shut down the government for the second time in two years.
At a time when the global economy faces headwinds and America’s economy is a relative bright spot in the world, a shutdown of our government would be wildly irresponsible. It would be an unforced error that saps the momentum we’ve worked so hard to build. Plain and simple, a shutdown would hurt working Americans.
It doesn’t have to happen. If Congress wants to support working Americans and strengthen our middle class, they can pass a budget that invests in, not makes cuts to, the middle class. If they pass a budget with shortsighted sequester cuts that harm our military and our economy, I’ll veto it. If they make smart investments in our military readiness, our infrastructure, our schools, public health, and research, I’ll sign that budget – and they know that.
So let’s get it done. Our economy doesn’t need another round of threats and brinksmanship. Nobody gets to play games with our economy – or the middle class I grew up in, and that you grew up in. So tell Congress to pass a budget that reflects the values we honor on Labor Day. Rewarding hard work. Giving everybody a fair shot. And working together to give all of our kids a better life. Thanks everybody. And enjoy your weekend
