Shukla, a 1983-batch IPS officer, took charge at a time when the agency is busy in a dirty turf war with the Kolkata Police which has spiralled into a political slugfest between the Centre and West Bengal government.
A perplexed interim CBI chief M Nageswara Rao was seen scrambling resources to counter the state police’s action which not only detained a CBI team which went to question Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar, but also cordoned off the agency’s office at CGO complex in Salt Lake city.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had started a dharna on Sunday evening protesting against the alleged highhandedness of the Centre and insults meted out to her by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah.
Banerjee’s reaction was triggered when a team of CBI officials arrived unannounced at the doors of the Kolkata police chief to question him in connection with Saradha and Rose Valley scams.

The proceedings of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned on Monday morning amid protests by Trinamool Congress members over alleged “misuse” of the CBI by the central government.
As soon as Lok Sabha paid obituaries to former members who had died in the recent past, members of the TMC raised the issue, saying they have given notice for an adjournment motion to discuss the issue.
When Speaker Sumitra Mahajan said they can raise the issue after Question Hour, TMC members rushed to the Well of the House and started raising slogans against the BJP.
Members of the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) were also in the Well supporting the TMC.
Later, Congress members entered the Well holding placards about the Rafale jet deal and unemployment figures
The Speaker continued with the Question Hour for 15 minutes and later adjourned the House till noon.

West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC leader Mamata Banerjee has begun a sit-in protest in Kolkata over the CBI’s attempt to question the Kolkata Police chief in connection with chit fund scams.
The chief minister skipped meals and remained awake the entire night on a makeshift dais here along with some senior ministers and party members.
In an unprecedented development Sunday evening, Banerjee sat on a dharna, protesting CBI’s attempt to quiz Kolkata Police chief Rajeev Kumar in connection with chit fund scams.
A CBI team, which went to Kumar’s residence in the city’s Loudon Street area, was denied permission, bundled into police jeeps and was whisked to a police station.
The CBI wants to quiz Kumar, who led a Special Investigation Team of West Bengal Police probing the scams, regarding missing documents and files.
Several political leaders, including Congress President Rahul Gandhi, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and RJD national president Lalu Prasad, came out in support of Banerjee.

शासन सचिव के समक्ष डीलर एसोसिएशन द्वारा कमीशन में बढ़ोतरी, छीजत में वृद्धि, दुकानों के समायोजन, समानीकरण एवं समामेलन, मृतक डीलर के आश्रित को डीलरशिप, डीलरों का बीमा, केवीएसएस से बकाया भुगतान दिलाना, उज्ज्वला योजना में गैस कनैक्शन को ऑनलाइन करने, दूरदराज के इलाकों में केरोसीन की आपूर्ति सही समय पर करने सहित अन्य बिन्दुओं का ज्ञापन रखा गया, जिस पर विस्तार पूर्वक चर्चा की गयी।

Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has ordered release of Rs 5 crore for providing freight subsidy to the producers for marketing their crop out of Punjab.
Chief Minister has ordered to felicitate export of potato crop, with the help of the freight subsidy which his government would be releasing to the Punjab Agro Industries Corporation.
The Chief Minister, has already asked the departments of school education and jails to purchase potatoes directly from the farmers for use in preparing mid-day meals and Anganvadi meals .
Potatoes are grown on about one lakhs hectares in Punjab with a total production of 25 lakh tones every year. However, the potato farmers are facing problems due to subdued prices of the produce for the last three years.

Former Madhya Pradesh Police chief Rishi Kumar Shukla was on Saturday appointed CBI director for a fixed tenure of two years,
The 1983-batch IPS officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre is at present chairman of the Madhya Pradesh Police Housing Corporation.
He succeeds Alok Kumar Verma, who was on January 10 removed from the post.
